  1. ... It's not like I'm naming anyone, why take it so personal? Your summary also makes it look far worse than it is, exaggeration to make a point. I'm not scolding people in game, I just RP along and do hope people learn and appreciate my contribution. We are not in game RPing right now... right? Came here to get a sense of people feeling the same, that there is a lot of poor RP going on. I am not singling anyone out, there was no one scolded. Bit ironic how you think I'm harsh and unfair, it's like we are two peas in a pod.
  2. Maybe read the whole OP and see how my last paragraph removes the need for cliche replies of that nature.
  3. More of that sensitivity, haha. It's not about being sensitive (you really think I'm sensitive? I play PvP exclusively in this game for a start, can't be thinskinned in RV). It's just about the simple fact that being snarky isn't gonna win you friends. More of a reference in jest to my own post. It only makes sense in context there. All good I don't know how sensitive you are from just one reply.
  4. This is awesome, makes me wish I had a character that fit!!! Good luck.
  5. I know you're venting, but I still feel like addressing this; Some people don't play using the Security/Threat level stuff. There's also a lot of room for public knowledge, etc. It also needs to be said that the story for Praetoria is over more or less - the Praetors are defeated, the invasion has been shut down, and all thats left are pockets of resistance perhaps - and Devouring Earth. Now, if the team explicitly states they're pre-invasion then that's another thing entirely. RPing in teams can be a bit funky. Now, again, there's a lot of public knowledge out there. Media is a big deal, as are books - which often contain information. As do reports for agencies, etc. So knowing everything, while a bit sketch, isnt as heinous in COH's universe. It's really up to the player - and some players may just be new and think OOC knowledge=IC knowledge. Other times, its people playing an older/veteran character. On the first, dialogue can sometimes be one of the hardest parts of roleplaying. What one sees as cringe (This word is horrid) or mary sue, the person might find to be the best they could do. After all, most of us aren't best-selling novelists ala GRRM or JKR. On the second, sometimes characters are not going to be as you expect. Not all characters are the same. One character may be all blase about the demonic powers, and another will feel turmoil over it. It may not be lacking the ability to RP but more that they are new to it, or new to a superhero genre for RP - especially such an open-ended lore for what is possible. If we are RPing through the story-line it has to be assumed those events have not happened yet. I mean you are giving the targets of my rant the benefit of the doubt in general. That's fine, you're a nice person :) ... Trust me though it's offensively annoying sometimes, sometimes maybe it's on me but I feel people should make the basic effort of "what would my char say?" when they approach RP.
  6. Well that must have been super frustrating... Those are definitely perfect examples though, I feel like there should be an understood rule about RP that impacts other characters. It really should be obvious, I mean an offer that would completely change the entire story of a character is RP breaking. I don't RP female characters so at least that would never affect me.
  7. Wanted to post and see if anyone had input or thoughts on this. Far too often I end up in an RP group where every character knows everything and is some variant of the infinitely wise always knows the right answer boy/girl scout. I feel like I'm playing with a bunch of CW mary sues half the time. A good RP group is so rare I sometimes don't even bother looking for one. I feel it's more immersive playing in a silent OOC group than in a bad RP group. And I get I make it hard for myself, I'm not really looking for a regular group or SG to RP in, I'm just running missions and like to RP a storyline and character as I do it. I have dozens of alts too so I don't often get to play with the same characters. It's not a play style conducive to good RP in the first place. My own fault at the end of the day. Really though, why play a character that knows everything about every villain group and piece of lore? You're essentially yourself as a studied min maxed gamer in the game at that point. If we are playing through the opening chapters of the praetoria storylines, how does your character already know everything about the multiverse? Another example, at the end of a string of missions my character acted overwhelmed and the group leader gave the most cringe mary sue pep talk I could have imagined. It wasn't believable as their character, it's like the player was talking through directly. Another example, dude got powers from a demon, talks about it like his bro gave him a skateboard. Now, that could be done right, but it was clearly just a lack of ability to RP. It was just a guy playing who was like 'RP, cool I guess, yeah I have time powers and stuff' . Just venting slightly, it's not the end of the world and really to each their own. I wouldn't want to take CW style RP and maybe people just learning or getting started out of the game, it's not my place to say what people should be doing with their time. I'm just really putting feelers out there to see if there are also people like me out there with similar thoughts/experiences.
  8. More of that sensitivity, haha.
  9. Reading this thread it's clear the COH community has a lot of very considerate/sensitive people in it. I would you just point out that some of us less sensitive folk are still good people, we simply may not even realize we are ghosting or being insensitive because we don't operate on that level or even 'care' that much.
  10. Hasn't happened to me but I'm not that 'deep' in the community.
  11. click fury power, drag scale from 0 to like anything else and voila your brute now outdamages your scrapper
  12. No sands of mu etc!!! that would ruin it.
  13. I agree with you, it's all about creating your own 'rules' and enjoying the game within that framework. I'd like ways to be more powerful at early levels though, feel like it's the opposite problem there.
  14. ... since when? Height and Body exclusive to surgeons as far as I can tell and the UI is telling me.
  15. Checking mids, its def more damage and radius though longer recharge than savage leap... Oh well I'll never get to try either of those because no char I've planned fits the theme :)
  16. I keep hearing about this combo (lightning rod and s charge)and I don't quite get it. Is it just loads of damage? I mean you'd lose the cool 'I traveled fast' or even gap close effect by running them one after the other. Not to mention other sets have similar aoe gap closers like savage or leaping...
  17. Yeah on Everlasting there is usually about 2-4 variations of 'fabulous' with bare chests and pink detailing on the costume hanging around Ms Liberty sooo. And then there is the LGBTQ RP that is constantly flying so it's fairly easy to find people. Not LGBTQ myself but the vibe is amazing, so far the most awesome groups I end up in are LGBTQ groups.
  18. Yeah... Some are 'open minded' as far as they are concerned but are so quick to get irate. Some are just quick to get irate in general, so again benefit of the doubt is a good rule.
  19. Yeah, like the Unofficial PvP Shard or the Unofficial RP Shard. RP-ers and PvP-ers are just like everyone else! They should be welcome everywhere! As has been said, it's not about segregating ourselves away from society, it's about going somewhere where we can be ourselves with our own, and enjoy playing with like-minded individuals. I also didn't expect this thread to be so inflammatory when I created it: I honestly just wondered if Torchbearer had been claimed as a LGBTQ space. People make too many assumptions instead of tackling each post as it is. Only thing I can add again is that Everlasting is full of LGBTQ and I see constant activity to suggest a large presence and a multitude of LGBTQ groups. The only super group I've joined so far is not 'LGTBQ only' but the leadership I believe is and one of the main pillars is LGBTQ openness/friendliness. Everlasting is also the RPG unofficial server so I think in general the full atmosphere of the server will be more open. I can highly recommend it.
  20. Torchbearer is a server for everyone, "claiming" it for one group or another will just lead to people feeling excluded. They didn't mean it like that obviously. And i don't think people feel excluded, let's give the benefit of the doubt when possible.
  21. 6 slotting my bubbles as ff defender...
  22. I mean it won't drain it if they're not attacking much because they're baked... that was the real thing he asked for.
  23. Haha,,, I guess?
  24. Dark armor / radiation melee also stacks aoe auras and is hardier than fire. Not sure why it's seldom mentioned maybe it sucks in ways I don't realize.
  25. There is a lot of LGBTQ presence on homecoming, I'd have to guess the ability to create any fabulous avatar you want is part of why. But maybe it's coincidence I don't know. You have the ability to make a super group and if you wan to exclude non LGBTQ I guess that's fine it's just a game. Server wise it seems there is quite a bit of LGBTQ presence on mine (everlasting) I guess there could be even more on Torchbearer. I agree in this day and age we should just all mix, that's what's best for the world. But if someone doesn't want to I'm certainly not going to force them or argue about it. I hope everyone eventually just becomes comfortable enough to be together. I totally get the frustration with having non LGBTQ around when you want to be yourself because that nagging feeling of having to censor yourself.
