  1. 17 is approximately one 8-person spawn, meaning you shouldn't have to tank more than that at any given five seconds of time before they're all defeated and you move to the next one. And if a team has two or more brutes and tankers you can handle a lot of aggro across the group. AOE caps are only relevant in that they were implemented for the same reason aggro caps were. To prevent herding. I don't see the relevance of either question. Tankers get boosts to aggro generation compared to brutes as it is, and I am not saying brutes are underpowered or tankers are overpowered, just that there are more ways to balance aggro than changing the number of mobs who all hate you at one time. Tankers also have larger AOEs and larger AOE caps as compared to other melee ATs.
  2. Mostly same except I think I'm not going to do pure heroes or villains for the sake of teaming with friends.
  3. Aggro cap should be 17 for all ATs.
  4. I tried this and: The Vahzilok plague is kind of punitive and not particularly fun The fifth mission has way too much fire doing way too much damage to easily be able to do the two things you need to do in order to prevent the explosion A boss spawning multiple copies of himself is kind of cool. Him doing it without warning in the middle of a fight, and ignoring your pets to focus fire you down isn't really very fun at all. I enjoyed this until the 5th mission, despite the kill 20 Freakshow kill 15 Vahzilok etc. I feel like the end of the 5th and the entirety of the 6th is overtuned. I also had more mobs spawn than "number of heroes I fight as" which I'm not sure is a bug or a feature.
  5. This was the year's worst horror movie.
  6. Yeah, true. It's extremely easy. I never think of bases because I generally never go into them. That's just me and my ancient live game habits. And yes, the powers for alignment are nice but really not much reason to be hero or villain when the other alignments let you do the missions you want and team with anyone anywhere.
  7. Get on Tram Pick Kings Row Exit tram station Fly, jump, run, or teleport to the left Look for a parked truck in a dirt lot Click on the truck's back doors You're in Pocket D It's different red side, but whether hero or villain, the Pocket D doorways is marked on each of the six maps they're available. In Port Oakes, the Pocket D entrance is northwest of the eastern ferry, about 100 yards. It's 461 yards east of the western ferry, almost directly straight Once you get an exploration badge inside Pocket D you can use your long range teleport to go there whenever you want Remember when Founders' Falls didn't have a tram? Independence Port only had one tram? Everything is so accessible these days. Also, SOs from level 2 and the ability to just click upgrade is fantastic, and I keep it up until like 32 I think? I don't usually slot IOs below 35 and then sets as needed or available.
  8. I miss the old powerful anti-Kheldian spawns. I found them to be a fun challenge especially on teams, and made a point to target the quantums first. I also remember having memorized the locations they were most likely to spawn in because that was something I had to know. It was fun to have a personal nemesis to fight and take it on anyway. The stuff now is fine and not even slightly unfair. Also, that quote about "turning out fine" is a reference to child abuse or bullying. No one has been abused by quantum gunners.
  9. You can revoke beast or ninja run at the P2W vendor and then get athletic run for free. You don't have to reroll.
  10. Yeah, AVs especially shouldn't be running around for 20 minutes straight. That's obnoxious. Verisimilitude aside, that becomes tedium.
  11. I played a Dark/Dark scrapper from launch to sunset and I never really found this to be a significant problem once armor could stack. My issue was always keeping endurance under control, and IOs took care of that. I always take at least one ranged attack on any melee AT I play to shoot runners if they actually get on my nerves. But yeah, there's no particularly strong reason for mob AI to make them run away the way they do, and that's possibly a better change than trying to push the dev who doesn't want scrappers to have taunt auras to give all scrapper powersets taunt auras.
  12. Are runners really that big of a problem? In my experience they seem to eventually return to their spawn point.
  13. This is good! I'm mostly running into which sets do I want to play now. Just started a DP/MC blaster, and it's pretty great.
  14. Life goals, really.
  15. I've created Praetorian versions of a few of my favorite characters, which I also did during Live. It's a fun way to shake up a character concept (Dark/Dark Scrapper to Fire/Dark Brute for example, or Dark/Dark Defender to Dark/Dark Controller were the two I played the most on live). To say I endorse such an approach would be an understatement. 🙂
  16. I had one account and purchased lots of character slots. I think some character slots were also part of the monthly sub or some other reward. When I said synergies, I didn't really mean minimaxing. I meant powersets that are fun to combine. Sometimes that involves minimaxing, sometimes it does not. Like the Dual Pistol/Martial Combat suggestion is great because it's thematic and because if you give a guy a gun, he thinks he's Superman. You give him two and he thinks he's God*. What I meant about "always having something to level up" is basically novelty value and having more options. Also the ability to do stuff with people on a variety of characters, even if only eventually. I love creating new characters as a general rule. Concepts are easy once I know what powers and origin I want or even a specific look. * John Woo's Hardboiled
  17. Yeah, I started playing in May 2004 until sunset. I only had about 30 or so characters on my primary server (Champion) and a couple dozen more on Freedom and Virtue. The main thing know is I don't know the new synergies very well, although I enjoy the characters I've made so far. The thing is I also just like making characters so I always have something to level up. On live the characters I played most were dark/dark scrapper and defender, ice/energy blaster, two Peacebringers, ice/stone tanker, spines/regen scrapper, SS/inv and SS/WP brutes, fire/dark brute and corruptor, necro/dark and bots/storm masterminds, a fortunata/night widow, and a fire/kin controller. And many others I didn't get past 22. I don't expect to get everything to 50 but sometimes something new grabs my attention. I do appreciate the advice. Thank you.
  18. Some fantastic ideas. Thanks! I've been stuck with analysis paralysis when I get into the character creator, and every bit helps.
  19. Those all sound pretty cool.
  20. I only have thirty characters so far. What's good to play, and can I get 20 more characters out of this thread?
  21. Some of my best character names came after putting in ten less creative names I actually wanted and not being able to get them.
  22. Oh no. I've known R_M since the 90s, and he was always been enthusiastic about his hobbies, and showed genuine love for the community. I was just thinking about the last time we'd talked - it was years ago, when CoH was still live. Wish I'd sent him a PM when he was still here. Wish he was still here. This is so tragic.
  23. I hear ya. My first was (and still is) an energy/energy blaster. And while I didn't do anything to increase the natural knockback of several powers, I still managed to piss off the scrappers. They sound like lame Scrappers. KB all you want, I'll just hop on over and smash them if they aren't defeated. No, it's a conflicting playstyle. Some scrapper powersets work far better when the mobs aren't being tossed all over the place, although it's pretty cool when that happens and the blaster eats a defeat because of it. I say this having played dark melee/dark armor (which likes having lots of mobs around them) and peacebringers (knockback all over the place). KB doesn't bother me, but I can at least see why it bothers some without insulting them.
  24. My entire Dark/Dark scrapper build, begun in issue 0, and it was a long, painful slog to issue 2. and when respec trials arrived, every team I joined failed the trial because everyone was trying to fix their awful builds. I don't even want to talk about that build.
