  1. Are there any threads out there that discuss the more "off the beaten path" missions?
  2. To be fair, WoW was built off an already well-loved IP at launch. There was considerable word of mouth power coming from fans of the Warcraft (and Starcraft) RTS games.
  3. That's what I used to use. I often have trouble figuring out the depth/distance and end up landing short. Using the powexeclocation version gets around that particular problem. This is more or less what I switched to (using a bind instead of a macro) but it still has the problem of not being able to land a hit on someone at a higher elevation. Basically if my game camera can't see the ground the target is standing on, it executes the jump but leaves me where I am. It's still more useful overall than the old way (you can't target someone at a higher elevation with that either).
  4. Mission/quest variety. WoW certainly has its share of monotony but there's a lot of character to a lot of quests. After a couple of dozen levels in CoH and I really feel like I've cleaned out this office building or warehouse a long time ago. In the end back in live, the thing that ultimately let me put down CoH and not pick it back up was dealing with the same mission structures and locations over and over again. The Tip missions seem to be much more inspired. More of the game should be that way. Also, WoW's UX is generally a lot... um... smoother? I don't mean the graphics of the UI (I prefer CoH's more minimalist approach) but I mean how it presents the game content to you. CoH requires you to read a lot of the mission text to really get context. WoW is much better at delivering that more intuitively. I often feel vaguely lost in CoH as to why I'm doing what I'm doing, and I usually miss plot twists or more subtle things. I never really feel that way in WoW. Partly that's because WoW's quest text tends to be shorter and more to the point (CoH's mission writers really needed editors). But it's all in how it's presented.
  5. One thing I'm noticing is it gets confused if you target an enemy at a higher elevation, where you can't see the floor from your angle. It seems to jump you to your own location, or the nearest convenient parallel dimension...
  6. Man, if only there was an existing thread for volunteering to make art assets. Then we'd be all set!
  7. Once again, there's a way to silence or change sounds in the game for just you. It's not that complicated. Sure, it might require ten minutes of googling. People have survived worse. While either side in this argument could go down this path, I tend to think the one who wants the change is the one who should enact the change. Make the sound quieter.
  8. Combat? I agree, names are key. I was thinking the other day about how I needed to update my glasses prescription because my astigmatism was giving me bad night vision. Suddenly I had an image of a Batman-like vigilante who, among other things, uses high tech for stealth and the ability to see in the dark. Night Vision is now one of my favorite alts. I suppose you could get silly and call her something like Flapper Blapper.
  9. That's awesome! Much better than mine. I changed it to a bind rather than a macro so I could get the cooldown without needing two buttons. /bind LSHIFT+e "powexeclocation target Spring Attack" I used e since it was close to my WASD but put SHIFT in there to help prevent accidental triggering.
  10. Unless CoH's engine is really, really weird, it is almost certainly just UV mapping 2D textures to 3D objects. You should be able to make variations on those same textures, and if you don't change any scaling or sizing, they would map to the same geometry.
  11. Just to be clear, I'm not asking for any change to the Hide mechanic. At the very least, you would need to be invisible to hostiles just as you are now (PvE and PvP). I'm asking for the option to make a Stalker visible to its own player when Hide is active. Secondarily, it would be nice to make your Stalker visible to other friendly players, and even to friendly NPCs (thinking mostly of escort missions here). That last borders on a mechanical change but IMHO it's how the power should have worked from the start.
  12. I have SA on my MA/SR Scrapper. It's not really any more effective than running up but holy cow it's fun! I'll use it to initiate or even sometimes to just slam down into the gang of MOBs I'm already fighting, just for the knockdown and/or damage. I have it slotted for range and I used a fast-use keybind similar to how people like to use Teleport. /bind LSHIFT "powexec_name Spring Attack" With that, I don't have to go fiddling around to find it. Hitting shift pops up the reticle and then clicking executes it. Fast and easy.
  13. One thing I also learned from experience is that going from Hero -> Vigilante gives you access to the Rogue Isles, but aside from newspaper missions, you can't play any redside content by yourself. And even the newspaper missions won't unlock further content. You can join a team with a Villain and then help them complete their missions, but you can't accept missions from Villain contacts. Same is true in reverse for Rogues in Paragon. Also (and I didn't get this initially) the Rogue in "Going Rogue" is not the same thing as the Rogue in the alignment system. You're not a Rogue in Praetoria.
  14. My laptop seemingly won't play the default glowie sound at all. I ended up changing it to a Weird Al clip provided by Piledriver in this thread. Works great, makes my wife laugh, it's a win-win.
  15. My Kin/DA Stalker perma-hovers. So far so good.
  16. but this was the first one I ever saw. I think it was done fairly early in CoH's life, before CoV, and I was new enough to the game that I had no idea what half the powers in it were. It's still my "go to" nostalgic CoH video.
  17. All of my characters must be portrayed by Patrick Warburton. No exceptions.
  18. I left live somewhere around i12 or i13 (not quite sure, it wasn't a clean break). Things I learned coming back to Homecoming. Not sure what was implemented live or was added by the HC team. You can combine 3 inspirations of a single kind into a single inspiration of any other kind. You can save your costumes out as files and reload them. Same with power customizations. Oh, yeah, you can customize your powers now. You can invite your own alts to your supergroup with /altinvite If you have a mission you've outleveled in your mission log, try abandoning it and retaking it. Often the new version will be re-scaled to your current level (I think up to some max per contact). The little chat balloon in your chat window is a popup menu, chock full of a bunch of fun emotes and stuff. You can also use it to change your difficulty setting and effective team size. Oh, yeah, you can change your difficulty and effective team size now. You can use the auction house from just about anywhere with /ah You can change a bunch of settings, including your alignment, by talking to Null the Gull in Pocket D. About auto-completing missions, go talk to the contact. You can only do this once a day (or every three days?). This is independent of you abandoning missions, which you can do at will.
  19. I was so bummed to see Ninja Run turn off when I activated Combat Jumping. +1 from me.
  20. Right, ideally it would be great to have a completely different Hide indicator. Like biostem suggest, some kind of hovering icon. Or maybe a special indicator beneath your feet. Or even some level of transparency but just not so strong. But all of those sound like varying levels of work. Or course it's possible Hide's opacity is somehow baked in (and given some things I've heard about CoH's code, that wouldn't shock me). In which case it's all a lot of work and therefore pretty unlikely.
  21. If the UI is an obstacle, it could just be a slash command. Like /hide_opacity 0 to turn off opacity (and use 1 to turn it back on).
  22. You don't have complete control over it. You can't see yourself while using Hide.
  23. I love my Stalker(s). I really do. But also, I love my costumes. I mean, that's a major part of this game, right? You spend a considerable amount of time creating the perfect costume. Then you slap it on a Stalker and no one ever gets to see it. Including you! Would it be possible to implement a feature where I, as a Stalker, could continue to see myself at full opacity when Hide is active? I'm not suggesting a change in the Hide mechanic at all, and in all likelihood it makes sense to still make everyone else see me faded (or not at all for PvP). I just mean on my own screen, running around... I mean... I look cool, right?
  24. I see it all over the zone, not just the plaza. In fact I've gotten into the habit of standing still for three or so seconds when getting off the monorail. If I run out of the station as soon as I arrive, I will almost certainly get snapped back into it. It typically only happens in AP, but just tonight I noticed it happening in Steel Canyon as well. And as I said earlier, if it happens to me, it happens to my wife at the same exact time. That's how I know for sure it's not strictly client-related.
