  1. I agree with most of the recommendations here, but I'll add a bit to playstyle and use case scenarios. I'm speaking from a dark/dark dom, which is a fair bit different I'd assume, but the basics are the same. My build is basically Voltak's Build, which I will post here with the caveat that it is their build with minor modifications and not mine. I'd actually love peoples opinion on how it can be improved in the modern age. Dark Grasp - I use this defensively more than offensively. As stated by others, it's not super useful, but comes in handy in a pinch when a boss gets loose. Possess - Basically the same as Dark Grasp. I tend to use this first but that has more to do with the fact that dark grasp is a major DPS weapon for my Troller and I view possess as a more desirable form of control. Fearsome Stare - this is often my opener as I charge into a group. I find I use it more while soling than in a group, this shouldn't come as a shock. Heart of Darkness - The nuke of the set, it does almost everything and a bag of chips. Get into a pile of enemies, Heart of Darkness, Engulfing Darkness, profit. Shadow Field - Your backup Heart of Darkness. Haunt - The just don't do enough damage for my needs, but many people take it. It is fire and forget, so I can appreciate why people take it, but I find that they often don't actually live their entire duration Umbra Beast - The doggy is a fine pet that does what is says on the box. It's some DPS and a few bonus holds and debuffs being tossed around. Shadowy Binds - No Living Shadows - The only time I've ever bothered to use this on a dominator was when someone asked for an all ranged dominator and I needed it to fill out an attack rotation at lower levels, it just hasn't impressed me. Hope I've explained my perspective well enough. Voltaks Dark Dom Modded.mbd
  2. I'm not even certain how to answer this question briefly, and the convo seems to be getting much more in depth on that topic that I would have expected, nonetheless. Each character has a different story. I've made a number of different tankers to find out which one felt best about. Turns out I think I'd like RA/TW. I found that out while leveling an RA/katana and an Electric/TW to 50 each. Sounds like I need to test my original hypothesis and make a Rad/TW. Now that I am leveling the Rad/TW tanker, I have a few possible choices. Strip both level 50's of the gear and sell everything, then delete the toon. As stated earlier, this would take time and effort for a few hundred million Inf and force myself to level a toon back to 50 in the future if i decide I want to try it out the build again. Leave the toon logged out near ada so I can snag a quick few merits here and there with minimal effort. It's also a sorta farm for monsterous aethers I believe. As stated above, 1k slots and i'm not close. The cost benefit analysis seema to favor leaving 2 toons near ada. So many good ideas here that I will, in all honesty, steal.
  3. So I logged in for a moment this morning while waiting for a flight at the airport on my FF toon (figured I’d make a little while I had nothing else to do) when low and behold, the first message that came over any channel was. . Ada in 2 minutes! Well, that’s all I needed to hear. I logged out and logged back in with one of my “ada” toons, slapped ada, and then logged back on my farmer. "Ada toons" are alts that I got to 50 but decided along the way that they were never going to see much more action (I didn’t like them enough for some reason or another to get them maxed out etc.). I’m not sure if this is uncommon, but I certainly see many of the same people crunching ada on the regular. So here is the question. Do you have any alts that you think serve an odd purpose? Not a farmer or a private SG alt, those are rather normal, but an alt that is used for a specific purpose and that is their only/main purpose.
  4. First and foremost, welcome to your new home. I'm not personally qualified to comment on most tanker builds, but Impervium's builds are no joke. The .mbd can be utilized it a 3rd party piece of software called Mids reborn. Welcome to your second addiction! It will allow you to build characters offline and many consider it a very worthwhile tool. My first big questions about the difficulty at level 11 are Have you added any enhancements? They make a difference but your a little low level for them to make a huge difference. Have you done a DFB (death from below), it gives quite large early game bonus. What questlines/ zones are you working through at present. Frostfire can get hairy if you are new and there are for sure a few spots that I got hung up on when I came back. You are not bothering anyone. This is without a doubt and appropriate forum for a really well thought out set of questions. Server : Excelcior Global Name: Witchcraft
  5. I want to start a website where spellcasters from around the world can get information on a website that they can edit themselves. I'm going to call it. . . Witchipedia I'm going to open a 1-800 service where people can get air quality report from all 50 states. I'm going to call it. . . American Airlines
  6. Wow, I did not know that it was so new. That seems like such an obscure reference then. Awesome work whoever wrote that joke.
  7. I can't believe that this wasn't noticed long ago, but i noticed it for the first time yesterday. When starting the questline "the graveyard shift" in Ouroboros, you are told about and address 612 Wharf avenue. This quest was made in about 2004-2006 I -think-, and I'm 99% certain it is a reference to the Aqua Teen Hunger force episode "MC Pee Pants" (season 1, episode 9). Pretty obscure nowadays, but what a solid joke when CoH launched!
  8. I'm pretty familiar with all of the fun colors you can make copper if you know what you're doing, have a tiny bit of chemistry knowledge, and happen to have good ventilation; but you got me wondering as to why almost every other metal appears grey except for copper and gold. Turns out it has to do with their electron structures and the science is above me. But this got me thinking, we already know where everything is on the periodic table up into the transuranic elements, and most of those aren't especially stable. Is impervium an alloy? Has it been stated that it's a pure element in lore? If it is an alloy, it could be a whole list of colors based on the information I can find with a cursory search. If it's an alloy, I'm voting for a middle toned silver with a sort of purple sheen based on the in game images.
  9. Clamor. Full stop I don't care about her abilities, because that isn't what clamor is about. Clamor is a design masterclass on how to design violent creeps. Sure, the claw is a little over the top in todays popular aesthetic, I'd make is smaller and more skeletal if I was designing her today; but the piercings, the bright purple leather, the wild hair and general proclivity for being an agent of unhinged violence all make her a great underboss. And the safety pins. *chef's kiss*. Every time I'm in a Yin and someone new has never done it before, they always mention how grotesque/ insane/ malignant they are. 10/10
  10. I had no idea that thread was a thing! pretty cool. I posted what i had come up with there, but I think OP is right, there isn't much in non anachronist ninja apparel for female toons. I managed to make characters that are obviously East Asian in their inspiration, but most of them look samurai or Dynasty warriors (which I think was a bigger deal in 2004).
  11. Someone was asking for a female ninja costume in the general chat and that lead me to post this here. it's certainly not a ninja costume, and I'm no in love with the hat, but i think it serves as a really nice dynasty warriors meets assassin look that resembles an anachronistic anime ninja. 12. A few weeks ago I was having a chat with friends over dinner and the topic of winning the lottery came up. Here is the math that we came up with. A 1 billion dollar lotter winning would leave you with about 600 million dollars when you take the lump sum ( anyone who is an accountant, please keep me honest here, this is not my area of expertise.). If you Invest that money and can get 5% returns, that would leave you with about 30 million a year to spend and live off of. If it helps, that’s about $82,200/ day. Now we have to look at the cost of developing an MMO. I'm going to put the price at $200 million. This should cover the costs of -almost- anything we can think of within reason. Anyone who says you could make CoX2 - electric defender bogaloo for $1,000,000 is lying. They might not be doing it maliciously, but they are lying. The actual cost is heavily based on vision too, if you’re funding this, I assume you get quite a bit of say in the matter. I am not certain how much NCsoft would want for the permanent rights to the IP. I’m certain it’s more than it is worth, but you can’t put a price on a 1 of 1 item. So with these things in mind I figure you could personally create and fund a studio to make CoX2 if you won a billion dollars US pre tax. I’d personally try to do things “right”, there are some positions at this theoretical company that are basically already spoken for. The current dev team, GMs and moderators are doing a better job than many paid MMOs, imagine how good they would be if they could spend more time on their passion. I'd probably end up overpaying for a lot of that talent, because let's be honest, we're not trying to turn a profit here. That is one route that would cost a ton of money and -might- yield a great game in 7 to 10 years. But If you have that money, just buy the permanent rights to the IP, sign them over to homecoming servers LLC and set up a trust that funds homecoming servers LLC under conditions that they don’t add microtransactions or payment (something like that. Contact a lawyer or 10 before you do any of this). This will cost less and likely have better results if you ask me TL;DR No chance unless I win the lottery and get bored of travel.
  13. I've got a 50 dark/dark/ soul of both, the 'troller (Witchcraft) is my "main" but I play the 'fender (Witchipedia) quite a bit as well. We're comparing Gala to Granny Smith, but they're apples. Both are set up rather similarly but have very different incarnate slottings. As you've pointed out, the 'fender has a much better blast rotation (although I need to get someone with better mathhammering to see if I can upgrade the rotation) and the 'troller had better. . Intangibles. Now I know that sounds like a dig, but it isn't at all. The 'troller can tank better and get a group out of a jam with heart of darkness if fearsome stare misses. When a group is struggling, I'd rather have the 'troller. I also -feel- (doesn't make it true) that playing the 'troller is a little more "chill" when I'm soloing. The svartvarg is an okay enough tank that I can relax behind him and all of my get out of jail free cards. That being said, when a group is good, the 'fender is more desireable. The AOE damage difference is quite noticable and the need for tons of control doesn't seem to be there in much of the Itrial content. I can't think of a time I used heart of darkness as a get out of jail free card in BAF for example. I'm also not certain how much value I get out of possess either. That's about half of my 'troller exclusive abilities that I don't use much in Itrials. In the end, they are both fun to play. One might appeal more to some than others (I certainly log into one based on how I'm feeling at times), but I'll be the last to tell you which is better.
  14. There are numerous studies done by different research firms on what people of different demographics think. Some of the really popular questions that these studies like to ask go like this. how much much to you need to be considered rich how much money is enough how much money do you have to make to be rich Obviously, this is of great importance to politicians and behavioral economists alike, but they have been forgetting the really important question. They forget to ask about CoX : Homecoming. I've spoken with Pew research and they seemed disinterested in solving this conundrum, so here is the question that research firms are too afraid to ask. According to you, how much must on have to be considered rich? Why? This is, of course, an opinion, and a nuanced one. Considerations in your wealth you may not have thought of. If you have a supergroup bank full of winter and very rare enhancements, you might consider that part of your wealth, or you might not. Do you consider the value of the enhancements on your toons as part of your wealth? I don't, but that's because I tend to view slotted enhancements as so illiquid that it's just not worth the effort unless I know I'll never use that toon again (which has never been the case). Do you count unspent merits as wealth? Any reasoning on your personal calculation as to what is "Rich" would be appreciated. Reasoning as to why a certain amount of inf and assets is a lot more interesting and useful that simply, "lol, X bill inf or less is poor!" To be clear, I am not asking how much you have, that's none of my business, I want to know how much -you- consider enough to be rich.
  15. So this is more of a thought exercise than anything else, but it sounds like a neat idea to try! My apologies if this has been brought up in the recent past, I couldn't think of how to word searches for the topic. I was speaking with some mates the other day and in our discussion the concept of the “ideal dungeon team” came up. This is not a concept related strictly to CoH, but I’ll explain the concept through the lens of CoH. Most content in the game is designed to accommodate 8 players (there are larger raids, and SBB takes four, but I digress). This means that if there are 8 like-minded people who would like to clear all content as a group (from DFB to four star hard mode content), it could be done with those same players. A static number is quite common in MMO design and we all hate it when there is not a consistent number of people allowed in “non-raid” content. Imagine if each TF had a different max number of players, not great. With the fact that there are 8 heroes/ villains possible in each of these, we can ask the question that some of you have already seen coming. If you were building a team of 8 heroes/villains to complete all 8 person content in the game, what would you pick? I’m not asking for a Razor’s edge min/maxed set of builds by any means, just some ideas as to what you consider a valid group for the assignment. In a perfect world, I’d like to avoid mirror builds, as that’s a little bland, but I can't see why anything else should be off the table. NOTE: Yes, I realize that anyone can do any content (or close to any content), but let’s accept the reality that a team of 6 masterminds, a sentinel, and a fire/rad Brute to tank might have some challenges trying to finish later content compared to a well balanced group. For the sake of argument, let's assume "official" content only. There is some incredibly interesting and challenging AE content, but I'll leave that alone for now. Thoughts?
