Competition to be the new trainer of Atlas Park.
Oklahoman replied to captainstar's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Could be a fun April Fools thing. -
Nicest thing anyone has said to me today! Oh, spoke too soon. 🙂 I think you're probably right - just say I don't hold spots, first come, first served, and let it work itself out. Just was curious how others are doing it.
 -
How do you guys feel about this, and how do you handle it? I'm not talking about someone in the team/league already who wants to alt, I'm talking about someone responding directly to an LFG ad with "save me a spot." First off, I have a reaction to being TOLD rather than ASKED, but let's set that aside. How do I know when to invite you, and under what name? How do I know the the next person to send me a tell asking to join isn't you? How long does it take for you to grab your alt? etc. I've never found a good way to handle this, so by and large I tend to ignore those requests (demands?). But I also know some people may need a certain badge and just inconveniently find themselves logged onto the wrong character at that moment.

My timing wasn't bad - Oklahoman hit vet level 666 yesterday, though I was hoping I would hit it closer to October. Anyway, if you catch me in game, check out my updated costume for the occasion. I'm turning off XP until after Halloween.
 -
I'd like the glowies - at least the first one - in Dilemma Diabolique to send a message to all the players that says something like "Remember back in Outbreak when you had to click glowies? It's the same thing here. That's literally why I am glowing. You don't have to wait on the league leader to do it for you. Go for it!" I'm flexible as to the wording.

Seemed like a good idea so I tried it last night. Unfortunately, it seemed others were still able to knock me out of an emote. I may try it again, just to make sure I didn't accidentally do something that knocked me out of the emote myself.
 -
True. If "x" is 15 minutes, the new instruction league leaders would have to give is "don't be AFK for more than 15 minutes." Or, "x" could be 45 minutes, plenty of time to go AFK in the bowl for a full MSR. The values of "X" and {wherever} are negotiable, but the overall intent remains the same.
 -
I mentioned this idea in a thread or two, thought I'd pull it out for it's own consideration. For zones like RWZ, The Hive, and The Abyss that are capped at 50 - whenever the zone cap is hit a procedure runs: If no one in zone is AFK, nothing happens For all players AFK in the zone for at least "x" number of minutes Prompt the player with the longest AFK time to respond in 1 minute or get removed from the zone If the player responds (and is now no longer AFK), run the procedure again. If the player doesn't respond, tp them to {wherever} This would help create space in those zones for players wanting to get into it to join an event.

Or, maybe a whole new currency was not what we needed to begin with.

Looks to be maybe a "sheathed weapon" thing, but Dream Doctor is balancing his staff-thing on his left shoulder when you visit him for his dog and pony show ahead of a Magisterium.

I appreciate the shoutout @lemming and @Krimson. You're both too kind. Not taking anything away from your experience OP, but while I'm not part of TFJ I do communicate with them a fair bit and hang out on their Discord on rare occasions. They've noticed when I am recruiting for stuff and hold up on their efforts until I am full, and we talk with each other to make sure we're not both about to run a big event at the same time. If I'm in the middle of running a BAF and I see them start to advertise for one, I let them know so they have the option to run something different. They run a lot of stuff and run it well, and in my experience they share the playground nicely. Like you, I don't know the details, so it's hard for me to comment on it at all. I will say that something TFJ and everyone can do better is add regularly scheduled events to the player led event calendar. If it's not on there, it's kind of hard to say you have a "regularly scheduled" anything. Even with that, right now there are 681 people on Excelsior (midday Wednesday). I wouldn't dare try this because some people are very territorial about timeslots, but I can't believe Excelsior can't handle both an MSR and a Hami right now at the same time. I think maybe we worry too much about trying to give players only 1 choice of big activity at a time. In fact, I saw recently where TFJ was running both an MSR and a Hami at the same time, albeit on the weekend. And, be flexible. I've logged on at 10pm Central before to find someone else was forming an MSR, so I run iTrials instead. I'm not in a position to commit to a regular schedule, so that's bound to happen. We're all just trying to have fun here. Don't play with unfun people, try to be fun yourself, and enjoy the game while we have it.

Add an Empyrean -> Reward Merit Conversion
Oklahoman replied to kingsmidgens's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I'm going to be interested to see how doling out RMs for iTrials is going to impact everything. I mentioned in the feedback thread that this change means everyone - even casual gamers who aren't especially chasing RMs - is now going to have hundreds of them falling into their laps per week. Seems like that could potentially have a greater effect on the game than those few people converting Emps to RMs. But, what do I know? May not be a big deal. BTW: Sold 2 Prismatic Aether's on /ah for 100 million each last night, so maybe jump on that little Gamestop of a thing while it lasts if costumes don't matter to you. -

Unfortunately, I guess I have to now say that ship has officially sailed. -
Maybe there's a way to do this already that I don't know about. But if I'm standing there /e drinking coffee, I don't want your little unnecessary buff to knock me out of that emote. Maybe assume 0 as a default, and /e drink 1 makes it uninterruptable.

No, it shouldn't be renamed. It should be used appropriately and reported as mentioned above. I don't think the community should tolerate that, and it sounds like the GMs don't want us to, either. All of that is true except the timing - I post to LFG every other minute, so my postings are almost always 60-120 seconds apart (or more), a practice I'd personally love to see more use. I won't claim to be 100% perfect on that, but that is what I shoot for and I rarely have a team or league not fill. Which is exactly the point I have been trying to make. As a community, we need to speak up when this happens so that they do, in fact, put a sock in it. Be polite, but do say something. As you say, a stray comment or 2 is one thing, a conversation is another. However, the stray comment can lead to a conversation. Here's another example from the other day: Notice that the first batch dies out quickly on its own without anyone needing to say anything to them. But, almost as if not getting called out gave permission for conversations to happen in LFG, 5 minutes later it starts up again. I call it out, and perhaps get some hate for it (hard to tell where that last comment was directed). There's a couple more queued up comments after I ask everyone to move it to General, but after that... nothing else for the rest of the evening that I saw. Look, I get it. This is probably something that bugs me WAY more than anyone else. But just like we have designated forums for different topics, and will move things posted in an incorrect forum to a different one immediately rather than just see if it dies out on its own, I feel like we need to work together as a community to keep our chat channels mostly on topic. If the appropriate place for a general conversation is NOT general, we need to fix general.
 -
For players to kindly ask people to move conversations from LFG to either help or General, as appropriate. I thought we covered that somewhere already in this thread. It works.
 -
Darn, you've discovered my reasoning for using email rather than the trade function!
 -
Even with MSRs when I am right with the Drop Ship, sometimes my log doesn't show who got the kill shot. I agree, the method isn't reliable. I haven't tried this at all, but maybe using demorecord you could tell. It would be a new application of the thread linked in my signature - just need to know whatever the command is for "bud squished." But overall, would be better for the game to report to you how many buds are left, I think.

What to do with Empyrean Merits in the future...
Oklahoman replied to Spectral's topic in General Discussion
Until the new version is pushed to live, the ship has not sailed. Ideally, those who had an opinion on the matter would have posted it in the appropriate thread before now, but that doesn't mean you still can't register an objection. You can even do that after it's pushed to live. It is possible to undo stuff. However, I do agree with the sentiment that the changes are all but locked in at this point based on how we seem to do things around here. I understand that frustration. -

What to do with Empyrean Merits in the future...
Oklahoman replied to Spectral's topic in General Discussion
For those who haven't shared their feedback on this change already in the Beta feedback thread, just a reminder to head over here and let it be known ASAP. -
I think most of us understand that anything is OK in the general chat - generally what makes it undesirable for many to follow, actually. Asking for help in general may get you what you want, but it's certainly not the optimal place for that. Same with trying to form teams out of general. I think we would be helpful to a player asking for help in general to suggest they may want to try the help channel, as well.
 -
I've suggested this before, too. We discussed there making this a slider setting so you could define if you want the last 0-30 minutes, or whatever. Also, as a general rule of thumb, I tell people on Excelsior that after you logon if you will monitor LFG for just 2 minutes, you will be pretty much up to date on what is recruiting right now.
 -
What if the buds ONLY spawned near where Hami was, rather than based on any player position at all? That makes a lot more sense to me, anyway, as an in-game thing. Coding for an instanced version may fix it, but that sounds like a heavy lift. I remember when that was done for MSRs and it took a bit to sort the bugs out. Maybe the instanced MSR gets run more than I see, but it sure seems on Excelsior, anyway, that the majority of the time it's the zoned version that gets run. Just seems to me it would be easier to tweak some code and have the buds spawn differently, and maybe include the bud counter. But I can definitely understand the frustration. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
