I would like to propose that rewards be handled like achievement badges, e.g the damage received achievement badges. Reward merits and/or costumes can be distributed based on total folded points and/or total folded work units. Rewarding both points and units will reward both those who use better hardware and those who use more hardware to produce work units.

A reward structure like this would allow people to contribute until they've reached the reward point that they want. This *is not* a suggestion to create in-game badges for F@H contributions as F@H is very much a pay-to-win competition and badges should not be pay-to-win. Creating a reward progression structure is a fairer solution for everyone, as it would allow people to eventually earn all of the rewards, even if their hardware or the amount of money and time (electric bill) they can donate to the project varies. It would also be in the spirit of City of Heroes as it would mirror the already existing achievement badge progressions.

I like this idea but it seems very heavy on work for the GMs for awarding the rewards...

Dang, 12 graphics cards. I just have a Vega 56 and and 1060m. Does folding work better on Linux? I was thinking of turning my old i5/amd 7870 into a linux box to run folding on but wasn't sure if the juice would be worth the squeeze.

probably only marginally, because if you are running linux without the GUI and nothing else running it it, it doesn't use a bunch of resources just for giggles like windows

I am folding on three computers.  Only Graphics cards.  However, between those three computers there are a 2080 TI, a 1080, 7 1070 TIs, 2 1070s and one 1060.  All but the 2080 TI are setup in rigs to mine so they do not fold well.  At all.  They are horribly gimped.  I need to install linux on the two mining rigs If i really want them to fold well.  I am thinking of upgrading one of the rigs to allow it to mine better.  a celeron feeds 6 cards to mine cyrpto just fine.  Folding, that is a different story.

you still have more power there then anyone else that I have queried currently folding for homecoming

  4. The Cape has a handful of DJ's that play rock/metal, so that is totally arrange-able,  and they might be willing to play your "little funny bits" too, though they may or may not want to screen them. I'd say go talk to The Cape and find out.

In the Advanced Control window, clicking the Pause button and then clicking the Fold button seems to accomplish the same thing.

in the advanced control you can right click on the processor in the folding slot and pause and restart folding on a per processor basis so you wont loose any progress on of the other one is currently folding...

    Details on the new prizes:

    • 10 randomly chosen contributors with at least 5 Work Units complete (outside the top 10) each month will receive 500 Reward Merits and a permanent costume power of their choice
    • 10 randomly-chosen contributors with at least 1 Work Unit complete (outside the top 10) each month will receive 500 Reward Merits and a permanent costume power of their choice

The above have replaced the 10 x 500 Merits random draws.

Some stats from the first few days:

    • Nearly 300 contributors have joined the team
    • Over 100 million points have been earned with over 4,500 Work Units completed
    • We're already in the top 1,000 teams for the entire month of March
    • More stats here

I appreciate being heard! Proteins I will continue to fold!

Been a few hours, and it's failed to download a packet...so that's kind of a handicap for those trying to get rewards...

my global is Scarlett Angel. When I signed up for Folding, I put HC_ScarlettAngel. If by some unknown act I should actually *FINALLY* be able to download packets and start, will I receive credit towards any of the rewards? Or do I need to go back in and try to edit my Folding name?

if you haven't actually completed a WU yet now is the perfect time to change your name to HC_Scarlett_Angel, as you will not have any progress to loose. you can do that in the configure menu of the advanced control

  8. I'd also like to post this here as a plea to the admin, in case my discord posts had been missed, and in return I won't spam discord any more with my opinion on such. But as a current top 10 runner, and I don't know what the future holds as some with faster machines then me may pass me who knows, feel that since this is a humanitarian effort to benefit global health as a whole, there should be some randomly rewarded costume powers as well. All participating should have a chance at the real "prize". Merits are nice, but farmable. This should be for cooperation to fight against a mutual threat. Not a who's got the most powerful gaming rig, or who can afford a server farm.

Thank you all who know you have older machines and won't make the top 10 but you are resolved to complete and turn in Work Unit's anyway.

This program is actually helping my son's anxiety (he's autistic and the Coronavirus is a big trigger for him at the moment) as he knows that his PC is helping towards it.

The fact it's now running with 10 times the amount of people using it means it's now more powerful than the top 7 supercomputers put together helps him understand that it's being worked on and we are actually doing our bit to help.

I've just told him about this group and he's bouncing and stimming like crazy with excitement and happiness 🙂

Coin, as a way to further quantify your helping whenever you work on a Corona Virus work unit, the web console will tell you that's what you are working on, and each unit has a different work unit number, if you use the windows snipping tool you can make picture files that you could print out kinda like trading cards, for each Corona Unit you finish.

  10. This is my first time using the Folding@home client, I've done similar group processing in the past with Boinc. Well I understand the "ease of use" that folding@home provides, Rosetta@home using the Boinc client is basically the same thing and provides a greater ability to control how the program uses your computer. Long story short, after analyzing the level of power Folding@home uses, some people's older processors may suffer negative effects buy running at 100% for extended periods of time since since folding at home does not allow you to set a processor usage limit.

  11. I've for the better part of a week now, had disrupt running all the time on my Energy Aura Stalker, first thing I put in there was the proc from Razzle Dazzle, because if I'm going to stun them I'd like them to be less likely to wander off like idiots. However I have YET to see this proc fire off even once! As far as I can tell this is not intended behavior.

  12. As much as everyone who is going to open this post thinks I'm going to say make all the buffs all the time. That's not what this power needs. The power's values are just fine. But...

I feel that the rooted animation of turning the power on is counter productive to the concept of the power. If it is going to give a sort duration buff when it gets turned off, especially one that is movement based, then allow this power to be toggled back on while a character is moving. The simple ability of turning it on and off without being rooted will encourage players to use the power as it was intended.

Please post thoughts and opinions. Do you agree or not? Why?

  13. So Today I witnessed a character that had through the 24 month Veteran Badges, he wasn't sure on how he got them he suspected something to do with the P2W vender.

Has anyone any information on how he got them?
