City_of_Jedi Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 I am up to speed about the buffs/changes to /Devices and decided to roll one myself. Build proposal is below, although I'm certain it can be improved. I am asking for feedback in that regard. I did have a couple of questions: Does Sniper Rifle still have improved accuracy? The in-game information claims it is 1.00X, which is standard accuracy (i.e. 75%). Is the tooltip wrong? What is the real value? When using Sudden Acceleration/Overwhelming Force to change knockback into knockdown, does the level of the enhancement matter? What to do about incarnates? 😕 Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.6.0.3https://github.com/ImaginaryDevelopment/imaginary-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! KaizenSoze Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 (edited) I will look at this in more detail this evening. I will be updating my build thread soon. Initial comments: I think all snipes have an accuracy bonus, plus you have targeting drone. I do not think KB-KD level matters, but I am not sure. Incarnate Agility recharge bonus hurts proc rates. I did not know this until yesterday, so I am switching to Barrier There is a guide for Hybrid Assault double hit guide in the Guide forum. I went with double hit which seems to work better with AOEs. Next comments are extremely opinion based: You have an impressive amount of s/l resist, but your range def is too low. Blaster HPs are not high enough to take too many hits. I am aiming for 45%+ range. You should update your mids, new toxic web grenade can take ranged damage, which will give you more ranged def. It now does 140 toxic damage over 5 ticks with the Thunderstike set at 50. Plus it has a quick cool down. I have changed my mind on Ignite, not worth it, the fear factor is too high. On AVs I can rotate through my single target chain and do a lot more damage. Quick Snipe->Slug->Burst. I am testing out toxic grenade and part of the rotation because it's cool down is so quick. Caltrops can be turned into a proc monster. Very opinion based: Note, I hover fight. Never on the ground. Gun drone is worth getting for the enhancement set bonus, Expedient Reinforcement. I find it a decent source of damage and a pest which draws mob attention. I still think trip mine and especially time bomb are not worth owning. You have to move in close, plant the device, which means you are both in melee range and whatever AOEs are being throw at the melee. In that time, I could fire one or more AOEs off and be safely at range. Solo might be a different story. Qualification, if you are a blapper */devices build, then god speed. Assault Rifle/Devices is a range build to me. Edited September 25, 2019 by KaizenSoze Night Pixie on Excelsior Introduction to Arachnos Widows - Night/Blood/Fortunata

KaizenSoze Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 I pulled your latest version into Mids. I liked you got your def and decent resists. It makes me think about my power pool choice, since you were able to def good ranged/energy/neg energy def. Plus, 40% s/l resists. I initially built around scorpion shield because I wanted that s/l/e def. Now, I wonder, as was suggested in my thread, that fire or force mastery should be an option. I need to check numbers. Tinker, always tinkering. The only weakness I see in your build is recharge. I put, Force Feedback: Chance of recharge, in M30 grenade. Those kinds of powers, as should buckshot, have a good proc rate. I am considering swapping out one snipe enhancement for another Force Feedback. I am play testing to see if I actually need it. Question about buckshot and grenade. I felt had to pick between buckshot and M30 because I can only global slot one KB->KD enhancement. *I feel bad KBing mobs in groups. I figured on average that M30 would hit more targets, cone vs AOE, than buckshot. So, I felt I would never use buckshot enough. What has been your experience? Also, I have more powers than I can use in most combat. I am still trying to work in web envelope, but it is turning out very situational. Toxic web grenade recharges so fast that my original thinking about WE->TWG for pinning AVs is not working in practice. I can just spam TWG. * Unless I group with a Commando Master Mind, then I blame all the KB on them Night Pixie on Excelsior Introduction to Arachnos Widows - Night/Blood/Fortunata
KaizenSoze Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I looked at Fire Mastery. I would be trading a little ranged, energy, and neg energy. Plus, lose lot of s/l def for 48% s/l resists and %16 cold/fire resists. Also, I would lose vengeance, which now that I can lower the cool down close to the duration is useful. I would gain a hold power, Char, and a AOE debuff, Melt Armor which the build lacks. Though melt armor has a long cool down. Or force mastery which has good resists and has two excellent self only emergency power. Though I consider afterburner a very very lite PFF. It's all about the trade offs. This is where some else's experience would come in handy. Night Pixie on Excelsior Introduction to Arachnos Widows - Night/Blood/Fortunata

Try it out on the test server to see if it works out for you. You can also slot it with force feedback +recharge. My AR/Fire has a few if those procs slotted and it's basically always active.

What has been your experience? I'm flattered that you asked. The truth is that it's too early to tell. I'm still leveling the guy. 😐 I find myself using it even against single targets just to have something to shoot them with. You only have so many powers at level 25, after all. The biggest drawback for you will be the range. It's a mere 40 feet. I will say that the magnitude of the knockback is lower than MP30, however Buckshot is still the inferior power, being a cone instead of a targeted AoE (and having shorter range, of course). Out of the two, I'd say you picked the right one. 4 hours ago, Neogumbercules said: Bonfire slotted with KB to KD is absolutely incredible I've come to accept the truth of that statement. There's a decent chance I'll end up doing that. However, for me, concept is everything. In the above scenario, I'd have to take Fire Shield, and I can't for the life of me explain why the guy would be be running around on fire all the time. He's a tech-based scout-sniper (e.g. Deadshot, etc.) I would take /Munitions Mastery but for the fact that it is terrible. I'm trying to strike a balance between viable theme and operational reality. Having said that, the [mostly] improvements to /Devices have given me hope that /Munitions will someday be improved as well. Ignite is one of those situational powers in the AR/DEV combo and is best paired with a power like Toxic Web Grenade. In my own opinion, it is highly under rated and a hefty boost to AR's single target damage line, better then Sniper Rifle, and comes with a pretty decent Defiance damage boost to boot. I reemeber back in the day when I discovered Ignite. It was just before or right after Defiance 2.0 was implemented. I was tired of the AR/DEV and 35+ game, where the combo lacked the oomph of other sets and everything had painful, frustrating CC even when soloing. I decided to respec away from the AR/DEV AE/Trip mine centric build, picking up powers like Taser and Ignite and even slotting Web Grenade (before it was Toxified) with immobilization. I was happy with the new build and could do simple things like Bean Baging a pesky mob, tossing a Web Grenade and then backing behind some cover to place Ignite on it, which does not require LOS. Ignite was also used on AVs for some serious damage due to not being affected by the fear when the triangles were not up. All in all, I highly suggest Ignite for an AR/DEV build if you can fit it in, even if it's situational. Edited November 27, 2019 by Fusilier
Virtual Green Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Greetings, guys! I've recently leveled my AR/Devices soldier up to 50 (really enjoying him so far), but considering I'm pretty new at setbuilding and the like (read : I settle with basic IOs until I'm level 50) and this thread has been most helpful to me, I'd like to have your advice, if that's okay! Regarding Ancillaries, so far I picked Munitions out of thematic necessity (my toon's supposed to be a pretty normal guy with advanced weaponry and some advanced body armor), but given what I hear about it, I'm thinking about switching to Force (much like Jedi, it wouldn't make sense for my guy to run around on fire, ahah).
plainguy Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 (edited) Here is my build for comparison. Range Cap Hover Blaster. Says 38 but its 45 in game. No clue. Double Gun Drone on a consistent basis due to recharge. On the team with a Kin I can sometimes pull 3. Full auto at 17 second recharge. BON FIRE - Once you know how to use it is great. You have to stand in front of the mid way point of the CENTER of the Bon Fire. This will make mobs bounce back. If you stand behind the Midway point they bounce behind you and to the sides of you depending on the angle they come at you. End result you start to get surrounded. You will notice the recharge when the proc goes off in Bon Fire. Smoke is going to give you more defenses. This is more of a hit and run type of play style. I am mostly near the ground but when it gets bad I just hover to range. I'm shocked when I die it is so rare. I rarely use char and I use melt armor on big bosses. I used other epics and ancillaries even munition but as much a fire is so out of thematic, Bon Fire is really good at keeping mobs away. I mean it really really is. But with that being said. I came up with another idea based on the Device changes as well. Again remember Mids has to be 38 Range Defense cap to be 45 in game. Again no clue whats wrong but as shown above its 45. But if you get rid of Bon Fire you need something that will make up for the 1.88 defense it is giving you.. But I added in Burnout which will could be used for Gun Drone, Full Auto, Burnout, Gun Drone, Full Auto and then eventually another Gun Drone. So you could pull out 3 Gun Drones with this method not including Double Caltrops / Triple Caltrops. But this will only happen every 460 seconds unless the Force Feedback proc goes off in Bon Fire. Unfortunately mids is no longer showing the number changes based on procs for some reason. Web Envelope, Scorpion Shield ( LOTG +Recharge ) and Summon Spiderling. You would then be able to do Double/ Tripe Gun Drone and Double Spiderling with Burnout then add a third gun drone once recharged. Spiderling is 12 seconds off Perma. So overall you would have 2 gun drones and a spiderling out on average. plainguy Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 (edited) Just got Spiderlings to Perma.. Expedient Reinforcements was the answer.. Which means with Burnout. You now have 3 Gun Drones and 3 sets of Spiderlings ( 6 Total ).. You can even put LOTG in Hover and change out that set for more recharge. This is for sure my new build. Yet even more edits. 1 LOTG in Hover. You might need to enchance the Defense IOS to 55 to get you range defense cap. But you put the other slot from hover into Burnout. It changes that from 435 to 398 recharge. Double gun drone for 50 seconds.. Double spiders for 35 seconds.. But its PERMA.. Instead of Burnout you could put it into Caltrops for the Posi Proc.. You will have 3 caltrops up at once.. Add IO enchancers in all the recharges I was even able get quicker recharge so Spiderlings are at double for 40 seconds now and of course Burnout is now at 393. Definitely the new build for me.. Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.6.0.7https://github.com/ImaginaryDevelopment/imaginary-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! Spookybastard Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Well I was going to post asking questions about my current configuration/updates that I plan but your final draft build, Plainguy is almost exactly what my build is except for Burnout so thank you! I always worry about the endurance crash a bit with it so I always avoided it but i may try it out a bit when I get a bit higher level.
plainguy Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 (edited) For some reason once I respeced My range defense dropped 😭 down to 39 for that last build. Which means I must have been bugged somehow and was getting extra points somewhere in my old build. Edit for more sadness. Burnout does not work on spiderlings.. So you only get one set. But you do get 3 gun drones Another issue I am seeing is my defenses are at 40 now with slot enhancers but it is dropping down to 38 after sometime for some reason. So now I am bugged in the opposite direction. I was getting 45 before But all I changed is one IO set for another. This fixes the problem Back to range defense cap. Burnout wasn't useful for 3 gun drones, so changed out for Assault. Could have went Maneuvers and Assault but it was more endurance. I always worry about the endurance crash a bit with it so I always avoided it but i may try it out a bit when I get a bit higher level. Don't Wasn't useful Mentioned it above but will re-mention. Burnout DID NOT work on Spiderlings. They just stayed grayed out. So was only useful for Gun Drone and wasn't worth the power for 3 Gun Drones. Went with Assault instead. Put slot enhancers in 3 of the recharge for each pet, Spiderling and Gun Drone. 5 Each. Spiderling went from 209 to 202. Gun Drone only went down fractions of a second. Tried to add 10 Slot Enhancers to Hasten but noticed no changes in overall recharge on the powers. so it was a waste of 50 Merits. Again remember Mids has to be 38 Range Defense cap to be 45 in game. Again no clue whats wrong but as shown above its 45. What do the in-game numbers say while you're in combat? I suspect that the number in the screen shot is when you aren't fighting; when you start fighting, some of the Defense from Field Operative will suppress. Also, check your full combat numbers to see what the exact breakdown of your defense is; I also see 38% in Mids, and my Mids builds always match what I see in game. It's possible that you have extra defense from temp powers. Possibly the 5% defense to all from the temporary buffs from P2W? 1 hour ago, plainguy said: Tried to add 10 Slot Enhancers to Hasten but noticed no changes in overall recharge on the powers. so it was a waste of 50 Merits. Adding Boosters to the Recharge enhancements in Hasten won't affect your overall recharge, it'll just make Hasten recharge a little faster, probably just a few seconds at best. This is generally only worthwhile if Hasten is almost permanent, and you're trying to just push it over the edge. Edited November 29, 2019 by Roderick

Will test out the final build in few missions and see how it rolls.
