Mind/Psi/Cold AV Killing Build Help

VV

Recommended Posts

Hello again fellow Doms!

So, after all the great discussion in my AV Killer? thread, I decided to go ahead and take a whack at respeccing my Mind/Psi. Here is what I came up with so far. Some notes/questions:

  1. Boosted the Confuse ST to last as long and cycle as fast as possible.
  2. Boosted Mass Confusion to handle any adds issues. Also have Mass Hypnosis in case even more show up.
  3. Sleet to get the opponent's Defense down a bit.
  4. I couldn't get Ranged Def all the way to soft cap, but I am hoping that will be okay with all the controls laid out.
  5. I was thinking I might swap Misdirection for Telekinesis, but it seems like the Placate and -Res could come in quite handy. Especially since she could Misdirect + Hibernate for some relief if things get hot. Will Mag 4 placate work on an AV? Will Domination increase the Mag of Placate like it does other controls?
  6. On Ice Storm, what is your opinion on swapping out the 6th piece of Pacing for an Overwhelming Force: Chance for KD? She would lose 3% of Ranged Def, but gain a lot of floppage.
  7. Can an AV break Hibernate?
  8. Will the -Recharge on many of the attacks have any effect on an AV?
  9. Maxed Levitate is honestly just for the heck of it. It'll be fun tossing minions sky high.

And Here is the build:

Personally, I'd put Sting of the Manticore in Psy Lance (opens up a slot) and Apocalypse in Levitate (unless you really like the knockback).

Ice Storm is a damage power... if you need the extra defense so much, take 3 slots from it, put them in Tactics and run Gaussian x6 for the Defense, then you still have 3 slots to slot up Ice Storm with Damage/Recharge and end up with more damage.

Personally, I like to start Sleet and similar powers with Annihilation -Res and Achilles -Res. I know the chance to proc in a pseudo-pet is low, but still... -Res is yummy.

Oh yeah, now that you mention it, Ice Storm does seem pretty pointless, especially slotted for Slow. Dunno WTF I was even thinking. Good stuff all around, thanks!

Ice Storm does good damage, it just requires slotting for damage is the point I think Coyote was making.

Oh I gotcha. Well, I ended up swapping it for Hoarfrost, so I think that will work out good. If not, still got plenty of free respecs LOL!

I'm also working on a Mind/Psi/Ice dominator. This build has softcap S/L defense, 38.6% ranged defense, 102.5% recharge.

The character is currently level 35. I'm still figuring out which of the group mez powers I like most and whether there are any I could drop. I might decide to take a different pool power instead of Assault at level 49.

I'm avoiding the levitation-related powers for thematic reasons. The character took some magic lessons late in his career, but his mind control abilities and his skill at inflicting psychic pain are all-natural, a result of careful study of criminal behavior. (He was halfway through the criminology Ph.D. program at the university in Steel Canyon when he was involuntarily transferred to an institution in Brickstown for a seven-year course of immersive instruction.)

Suggestions welcome! This is a redside toon, so playing well in smaller teams is a priority.

You're not going to have a lot of endurance with this build. Unless you rely on incarnates.

Any /Psy Dominator generally has no Endurance issues in any case until you're down to just the AV and miss with Drain Psyche. Even if it's down for 10 seconds, you're not going to drain dry before you use it again and go back to regaining 6+ EPS. Heck, I think with a single target and DP unslotted for End Mod you still end up with 4+ EPS.

I disagree. Have you looked at the actual build? Unless he is sitting there doing shockwave his recov is low with the combination of attacks and toggles running.

Hm. I'm not sure what a good recovery is, then. He has 4.5 or so with Drain Psyche running at a single target, so ... while it's down (and it has a longer downtime than I like to see usually), he does have endurance issues, but I don't think he'll bottom out in 15 seconds, and when it hits 1 target he's fine, and when it hits 2+ he'll max out his Endurance during its duration. I mean, not many builds hit 4.5 EPS recovery in the 20s, even if it's only a 2/3 uptime depending on how many sets he has active at a particular level. I'd be quite happy to run something with this kind of recovery, although I'd want more Recharge anyhow for Domination, which would then push Drain Psyche to a 6-8 second downtime.

6-8 sec downtime would be suitable as well. But as his current build runs if he misses drain psyche, he basically is running a 2:1 ratio with endurance.Which at this point he has a 34 sec recharge with hasten. he's gonna burn through end cycling through his attack chain which on average is going to hit anywhere between 4-12 end cost with one being at 16. This is why i'm wondering if you're looking at the same build.

Also to the OP I would take the proc out of mass hypnosis. The slot could go to something else since it's only giving you toxic and psi resist in which you're at 6 percent which is already low. The rest of the bonuses you get from it you're a perma dom. None of that matters really.

Yeah, I think he's fine AS LONG AS Drain Psyche hits. I wouldn't normally worry about it hitting since you assume he's using it against multiple mobs. If it does miss, he's in trouble until it recharges, but usually he'll have multiple targets unless he's solo against an AV. He'll have to go slow for a while, but I think it will be rare enough that he's not using DP on enough targets, that he shouldn't redesign to build for more End management. Now, if he could just move a slot or two around and get more into Stamina, that may not be a bad idea. But I don't think it's a situation that will turn out to be a major problem for the character.

Thanks for the advice. Would dropping Tactics and Assault in favor of non-toggle powers (Super Speed? Hibernate? Hoarfrost?) solve the late game endurance issues? Or do I need to rethink the slotting?

In the mid 30s, I do have some end issues on this toon. As long as drain psyche hits, I'm fine, though.

Need to focus on better frakenslotting.

So, I think my question is, do I really need to Fighting Pool? It seems like if I am really going for confuse/control then the extra armor is superfluous and taking away from my damage/control ability.

One thing I wouldn't do is try and soft cap range when most of your attacks are going to have you close enough to where the npcs can melee you. An over defense is nice but in this case you should frakenslot the Dom ATOS to increase and strengthen your mezz powers.
