ArchVileTerror Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 If not Recluse, then SOMEONE needs to have that Power . . . 1
ABlueThingy Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Timeline wise it kind of makes sense that post-incarnate players can pound him into the grave. I'd say try and remove the sillier exploits but otherwise leave him be. Maybe we just need a new post-[REDACTED]'s death TF that deals with Recluse's response to all that with a new power up?
Aberrant Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 (edited) I feel like new iterations of Lord Recluse should be done very carefully. His whole Incarnate deal as I understand it is largely framed as refusal to use the Incarnate powers granted to him by the Well for fear of becoming a pawn of it's will and losing the ability to make his own fate, so he most certainly shouldn't use any powers of Tartarus like Emperor Cole did unless you intend to swerve his entire character - or he's literally on the very brink of death (not a comic book death, a real one!). As the posterboy Mastermind of CoV I feel any increase in power should be as a result of his allies and the resources of Arachnos & the Rogue Isles at his disposal. As it stands he's recently regained the Red Widow as a motivating factor but is losing one of his Patrons - Scirocco. He's managed to repel a Praetorian invasion without suffering too much damage potentially gaining some new Praetorian allies. His longtime nemesis Statesman is finally out of the picture and with Emperor Cole inactive that's two of his big fears out of the way. In addition there's still the unrevealed Weaver-1 as a potential force multiplier of new robots / transhuman forces. I would love Arachnos to gain a new foothold in either the Rogue Isles with a new island or Paragon, like a partial occupation of Shivan Infested Galaxy City or similar. ArchVileTerror Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 *gets a shiver* Oo! Someone just mentioned Weaver-1, did they? ... Yup. There it is. @Aberrant . . . yes. Yes. Yes, so many times. So many times, yes. There are so many ways to make Recluse a meaningful threat and an impactful character. Your points and your ideas are very much on the nose. Well said. 1
Darmian Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 (edited) Necro! But yep, so much potential for Recluse following the return of Red Widow. Pull back troops from Siren's Call. Retake Warburg and Bloody Bay. Initialize a program to "benefit" the citizens of the Etoile Islands. Think Cuba crossed with Latveria. Open a Conuslate in the heart of Paragon having negotiated with the UN. Huge building projects on some of the southern islands (as yet unmapped) to prepare for the Glorious 60th Anniversary of Arachnos Rule in 2024. Longbow? Mainly undercover now since they were ordered to publicly leave the islands. Scirocco? Gone, but who knows where? Ghost Widow? Not seen much since Marlene returned, possibly brooding, if she remembers how to do that. Mako? Is that a fish? There's something in the water in Kallisti Wharf (Which is where that Consulate would be). Black Scorpion? There's always one...but old BS gets handed over to the UN for "war crimes" as part of that deal. So what did Recluse GET from the deal? And what about the time travelling Arachnos? Recluse himself? No longer seen in Grandville. Daos now occupies the spot he once took. It's a new day for the Democratic Republic of the Etoile Islands. (I have loads more but it's late/early!) CrudeVileTerror Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 That too all sounds rather awesome, @Darmian. Though it also sounds like a major upheaval of the game part of the game. Could be a great place to start off the story and set the stage for City of Villains 2, or as an alternate timeline/dimension. 1

The simple thing is if you want to ungimp Recluse you write him like a real person, and to be honest I've not seen that done since Web of Arachnos. Recluse himself knows he's been gimped. So not seen? Him and Marcus Cole took a trip a long time ago, maybe he's on another one now... Building program? It wasn't just the ACUs, BCUs and so on that were "liberated" from Praetoria. The builder clockwork came too. More toys for Weaver 1 to fiddle with. And Weaver? Oh which Weaver?! Yeah. Pipe dreams. But who knows? Maybe! I'll go back to writing AEs and work out how the plots might fall in sketch form at least. CrudeVileTerror Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 Well, with infinite potential realities, if we ever get the tools as players to author whole dimensions within the game, that would be amazing. I know, I know. For a lot of players, AE is "good enough" and "under-utilized." I just feel that its narrative thrust as a virtual reality entertainment system designed to harvest combat data from heroes and villains for the use of Dr. Aeon and the Battalion's spy . . . well, it's less than ideal. Having tools which could allow players to author entire alternate dimensions would allow a LOT more interesting stories, and would hopefully have more robust tools to create meaningful content. Heh. Talk about pipe dreams, eh? 1
Darmian Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 (edited) I'm going to port my initial post to its own content and see what muck gets stirred up from the bottom of the pond!
