Looking for build feedback - Street Justice / Shield Defence

Recommended Posts

Loving my stalker @ 50, now looking to kit her out.  My general play style is:

* Shield charge in (*bam*)

* Single target / attack chain (*whollap*) until no one is left standing

* Moonbean or Soul Storm any runners (*pewpew*)

More damage would be appreciated. I don't tend to get hit much. Also looking for Incarnate advice, as I just unlocked Alpha. I like the powers I have, though I probably have two many attacks. Sweeping Cross and Spinning strike could probably go. Not really sure what to replace them with. I don't see many builds for this power combo, so any advice is appreciated.

There  really isn't a whole lot out there for this combo, but I sort of wanted a "bad" Capt America so I created one as well.

I played a BS/Shield Stalker using the "Thing that should not Be" thread as a basis for that build.  Turned out fantastic, hard hitting and hard to kill.  So I borrowed some of my slotting from that build and then came up very similar to yours.  You are very proc-heavy, and I understand the value of procs, but I try to avoid them overall as I know that the nerf bat is coming eventually and I don't want to end up with a totally gimped build if these procs aren't really working as devs intend.

So what I came up with is certainly more expensive than yours, but I'm literally swimming in Winter IO's and purples so no big deal.

I think it's important that if you use MIDS you learn how to toggle what your Defense is REALLY going to be outside of Hide, Stealth, etc.  Use the Options>Configuration menu command and then choose Effects and Maths menu, then under Suppression, check on the "Attacked" option.   You'll see your defenses change dramatically as this represents what you'll be doing when you "Scrap it out" outside of Hide.  I always try to get Softcap Melee without sacrificing Recharge as for me anyways, Stalker priorities should be Damage and then Recharge and then some kind of Defense.

So the only things I dropped from your build were Teleport Foe and Summon Widow, replacing them with Stealth and Maneuvers.  I also took super speed vs super jump, but that's easily swapped out, although I do agree with you on the Winters Gift IO as Recharge debuff resistance on this build helps a bit.  This new build did, however, increase my endurance drain slightly more than you, but everything else in the revised build remains same, minus the whole proc thing mentioned above.

I also noted you had a lot of wasted slots dedicated to -Knockback.  With Active Defense stacking, you are already -20 mag to Knockback so I don't think you need it.  Those slots are better used elsewhere.

I ended up with this in combat:

image.png.faa98d61d7dbba3a0b33809384fdd2f2.png

Versus what you had was this:

image.png.768b2d2f74fecbf705fb7b5b466d6902.png

Both are with Hide running (but in Combat mode, thus suppressed), no Shadow Meld, no OWTS.  You obviously have both of those available as they recharge in case you need to soak an alpha and/or otherwise are getting significantly Defense Debuffed.  I also worked in an Absorb Proc which can help with survival as well.

Speaking of Defense Debuffs, and it's seldom mentioned with Shield, but you want Active Defense to double stack if possible, and definitely run Grant Cover even if solo if you are up against Defense Debuffing critters.  Double stacked Active Defense + Grant Cover is 55-60% DDR combined.  Since cascading Defense failures is your weakness (along with that stupid Psi hole), you want all the help you can get there.

Nice build, I’d take this route if I wasn’t trying to preserve the OP’s desire to keep Moonbeam and Soul Storm in there.

However I would likely take the Radial side for Destiny Ageless T4....that gives you the massive DDR boost.  You’ve got END fairly well covered given the Body Mastery route.  Personal preference though.

So I made a few changes to the build to prioritize damage and shuffled a few things around.  The two biggest changes are to the slotting of Crushing Uppercut and Assassins' Strike.

Crushing Uppercut: Changed to 5pc Hecatomb + Unbreakable Constraint proc.  CU is your strongest attack and has a 90% proc rate for purple damage procs even when ED-capped for recharge, and you want this power on cooldown as often as possible and especially when the Stalker's Guile Hide proc goes off.  Speaking of which,

Assassin's Strike: Changed to 6pc Stalker's Guile.  On a build without Tough I think you want to 6 slot this to get the S/L resistance bonus.  If I were allowed to cut powers (looking at you, Summon Widow and a few others..) I might split up the Stalker's Guile set into 3 and 3 to double up on the defense bonus, and then you could get more damage out of AS by going 3pc + hecatomb + 2 damage procs.  In any case, you definitely want the chance to hide proc in Assassin's Strike.

Sweeping Cross: You can do a lot with this power slotting wise and it actually has great DPA and is a substitute for CU in the attack chain.  With the 5pc Avalanche the build brushes up against the softcap for melee, or you can slot it with Armageddons for more damage.

Overall I'm not a huge fan of the soul mastery pool on this setup and I'd look to make cuts there if you wanted to go for something like alternating Rune of Protection & One with the Shield, or to bring in Tough and Weave.  But that is more of my preference and I didn't want to tinker in Mid's for that long, at least until I make my own 😅

^^ You have 1 slot left to assign in build as posted btw....

Indeed.  I was tired of tinkering with the build as it was 6 in the morning and had already made the important changes so I wound up with an extra slot.  One easy change would be to put it into Soul Storm and change from 4pc Basilisk's Gaze to 5pc Unbreakable Constraint to max out on 10% recharge bonuses, but it could also go into the snipe, into the pet, into Build Up. . . wherever.

I have been interested in a StJ/SD build for a while now but have yet to make the leap. Is there anyone who has experience with the combo in endgame content who can tell me how it performs? (Especially in comparison with StJ/SR and DB/EnA as those are the two I have endgame experience with.)

I can't imagine you'd notice a huge difference in single-target performance if you already have StJ/SR.  You would gain a new AoE power though which could be fun.

Compared to both SR and EnA, you're going to be spending a whole lot more slots to be able to hit 45% def softcap numbers, or just not hitting them. SD does not have a regen buff or a heal like EnA and does not have any endurance management tools. You will likely rely on Cardiac, Vigor, Agility, or Ageless incarnate choices to manage your endurance sustainability. Basically, for access to Shield Charge, SD pays for it heavily (for stalkers).

Currently on fire.

I have a BS/SD stalker fully T4’d out at vet level 20+, as well as a DB/Energy Aura T4’d out.  I’m currently 48 on my StJ/SD stalker.

By far, the StJ/SD is weakest of the three.  Hits as hard as my BS/SD does/did, but that extra +DEF from stacking Parry allowed me to spend fewer slots on SD and more on damage.  I really miss that on my StJ/SD.  Fun visuals though.

Pretty much any /EA stalker in end game content is going to be superior.  Energy is such a common damage type and you just soak it up on /EA.  No matter how well you slot up /SD, without the Radial side of Ageless Destiny, DefDebuff just eventually starts a cascade failure.  Even silly Arachnos can be problematic, especially if you don’t manage to softcap Ranged DEF.

I appreciate the information and advice everyone. It helps to know what to expect before investing in leveling to fifty and going to the expense of the ATOs and set bonuses and so forth. Thank you all 🙂
