Rad/Fire non farm (incarnate content)

looking to run my new farmer through incarnate content as i unlock powers.  i prefer to build a Tanky version instead of a Farm version and run that.  i do enjoy comfort.

 

A decent search of the Brute forums turned up to "high defense" non farm builds....  A wiser mind than mine pointed out that chasing Defense on a Resist set is not...good.  My Dark/Dark main sits at around 30% on best defenses and I never consciously chased any of it.  I build Resist for resistance, then recharge.  When in trouble i heal gtfo tactics if resistance isnt cutting it.  

 

Anyone got a strong incarnate build for late game incarnate trials?

Depending on how you look at it, you can build for defense and less resist.  Got a WM/Electric, 45% and 80ish resist S/L WITH 90% ENG resist, shrug off energy like its a trickle of rain, enough regen in in the heal to mitigate the remaining amount.  Fire/Cold are like mid 70s, so it doesn't hurt unless it's an alpha. 

 

Basically if you can avoid 75% of the hits, the remaining 25% is to mitigate regardless of dmg type unless it's your weakest.

It comes down to reliability. 

 

  • If you go "All In" and softcap defenses on your Fiery Aura character, then your resistances almost don't matter. With very good healing and most things missing you, you're probably good. Probably.   ("they mostly come out at night. mostly")
  • But.... with no DDR... you always have to keep in the back of your mind that that defense is fragile.  And not every Defense Debuff requires a hit check.  Or if you're tanking a LOT of mobs at once, it only takes that first lucky hit for the Cascade to begin. 

I'm still wrestling with it myself. I don't like having defense be that fragile.

But if you don't go nuts and stack defenses Very high, it almost feels like there's no point, because a 28% defense will get ripped down by common debuffs quickly. 

But ignoring defense entirely and being pure resist + heals isn't often enough.

 

Ultimately, I'm slowly coalescing on "Stack Mainly Resist and Some Defense.... when soloing I'll only have the resist + heals.... when teamed, team buffs can finish my defense".  With the option to pop multiple lucks for very hard fights solo. Still not 100% sure of that plan, but what I'm moving toward.

I am working on a Battle Axe/Fire brute myself for general content and set these priorities that you could apply to Rad/Fire:

-Recharge Debuff Resistance as close to 100% as possible (currently at 95%), if you are slowed, can't attack, can't heal.

-12 pts of Knockback protection

-Soft Cap S/L and Melee

-Take and love Rune of Protection to boost your resistance

-Load up on Damage, kill it before it kills you

-Take Rise of the Phoenix or Darkest Night for when Rune is on cool down.

 

You need other tools to mitigate damage since Fire is very limited.  Axe is actually giving me somewhat reliable knock down.  Not sure what Rad gives you to help, with its last 3 attacks being so slow, maybe a KD proc in IG for starters?

    As to lack of DDR I don't see it mentioned the way I used to on Live, but seems like folks are getting stuck on hitting 45 and stopping as that will minimize the first chance of being hit (1 in 20, acc mods aside).  Great, but depending on build choices grab a bit more defense to buffer against that first debuff and those chances go to 1 in 400 (1 in 20 * 1 in 20).  Buys time to pop a luck or get out of dodge stopping the cascade before it happens.

Again, I run my Dark/Dark nowhere near softcap on anything.  Actually a very Tanky character.  I chased resist on him and it payed off.  I think Dark is a better Armor set than Fire, for protection anyways.  While it does not have Defense, Dark has Two Mezze auras.  One Fear, one Stun.  And they do help.  

 

Anyways, here is the build I slapped on last night to start getting accolades, open patron pool, and start running Incarnate content.  I think once I get enough of all that stuff to be happy I will just respec into the farm build.  I do not see this toon as being something I run in regular content.  as i built it out I realized what a gem Dark/Dark is lol.
