My preferred playstyle is more melee than ranged but not full blapper.  (I do have full ranged Arch/TA and blapper Rad/Nrg so not against either)

I'm trying not to duplicate any primaries or secondaries on my blasters so here's what's left:

Primary: A.R. / B.R. / Dark / Nrg / Sonic / Water

Secondary: Atom / Dev / Dark / Martial / Plant / Sonic

I'm looking for input on what sets go well together from this list.

(If I really plan to see it through I may do my next six blasters off this list, but ...)

Go /Martial.  Flashy, Effective, Fun; Reaction Time is under-rated and Burst of Speed's range is massive.  The 360 AoEs in Dark and Water would mesh quite well with BoS and DT.  I play mine probably 50/50 range/melee, leveraging Combat Teleport against BoS bounce in/out.  NRG/Martial might be interesting thematically, and I've not seen one around.  Mine is Fire/ and I've seen several DP/Martial which is pretty cool to watch in action as well.

You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.

I main a Dark/Dark.  It does not do the most damage of the Blaster sets.  the DoT is especially tricky when soloing multiple mobs.  Did I kill that guy and need to start spreading the love, or keep pew pewing that one?  The tohit debuff is VERY nice.  I enjoy Soul Drain on my Brute.  It is a little more dramatic to use on a Blaster.  When you saturate it life is good.  I do not take the melee attacks from the secondary.  I do have to go in for Soul Drain, Dark Consumption, and Blackstar.  Other than those PBAoEs I either run 4 cones (I use Soul Mastery) for non stop AoE or the solid ST chain.  My build is soft capped to range defense.  I hang back and rain down hell except for jousting in for the drains and T9.

Posted

I'm probably an outlier here, but I enjoy my Sonic/Sonic. Definitely requires jousting to get the cones and PBAOs cycled, but I really like the debuffs (especially on teams), and the T9 nuke and T9 melee are both super hard hitters. Siren Song makes soloing things like Malta with multiple sappers easy. Plus its very thematic. I enjoy it just as much as my ice/ice/cold.

Gather the Shadows: A Dark Miasma Primer for Masterminds

I have a Electric/Temporal/Force concept simmering on a back burner.  All ranged. Ranged Defense. The ability to escape any (ANY) "Die now" scenario.  I call it a Blanker (Blast Tanker) but in hindsight it is really a Blalker (Blaster Stalker)

Water/Martial is a lot of fun. Lots of slows and knockdowns, plus it has a heal. The slow from Whirlpool stacks with the slow from Reaction Time, plus Whirlpool triggers Avoid. Burst of Speed into a group, drop Whirlpool, hit them with Water Burst and Dragon's Tail while they all run around in slow motion. Storm Kick has 100% knockdown and a 6 second recharge, allowing you to juggle bosses while you pummel them with Eagle's Claw. Slot a Gaussian's BU proc in Tidal Forces and hit it before using Geyser. Tidal Forces gives you +3 Tidal Power, which makes Geyser do 25% bonus damage. Water Burst will clean up anything it doesn't kill.

Thanks for the tips.  I've started a dark/dark and it's not bad to lvl 31.  Definitely an end hog.

Water/Martial will be next.

Sonic/Sonic?  I remember disliking sonic on live, but that was probably before IOs.  You never see either set, which is a bit intriguing.  Of course it may just be the sets suck.  Do you have a build  @Force Redux or general tips?

Dont forget to poke someone with Touch of the Beyond once every two minutes. You will see the buff icon on your powers active when it us up. Bug yes, still an end hog. You will get Dark Consumption available at 28.  Very powerful, usually fill end bar

Does anyone recall the command to export a build from in-game? I realize my sonic/sonic doesn't have a Mid's file.

/buildsave

then you have to go find it, i think there's a builds folder.  It doesn't always import perfectly but it's close.

@Jerdoggiedog

Hey Jer, here's my current sonic/sonic build exported from the live game. Its not quite capped at Ranged Defense, but its good enough when solo, and I'm capped anyway on teams due to all the buffs. If I had room I'd take Combat Teleport for easy zipping back and forth for PBAO and Cones, but meh, I just joust a bit and it keeps me interested scanning the battlefield. I find it a fun build, pretty effective, and while Sonic Attack is not juggernaut for damage, Deadly Wail is a killer T9 and so is Earsplitter. I like Echo Chamber as well, though I do lack a second hold to use it with, so its mostly for annoying Lts or Hami raids. On paper its one thing, but in gameplay its another, I just really enjoy this character, visually and gameplay wise. I got used to Sonic's longish animations, and so I learned how to time them on teams for the most part to avoid hitting dead mobs. Not that that's unique to Sonic, all my characters risk that on any AT, though.
