earth/dark: domtroller or "you can't hit me blapper" build choices

Hi fellow Doms,


I recently finished getting my earth/dark to 50 and thinking about crafting a build for her. One thing I have noted on my trip to 50 is how little I take notice of when domination is up other than when I need to refill my blue bar. So having perma-dom is not a necessary goal (but I usually would get it anyway). 

But I digress......at this point I see two paths a ranged domtroller that spams Gather Shadows boosted earthquake, volcanic gases, sleet, Ice storm and night fall. Or a melee orientated dom using the soul mastery + procced out engulfing darkness lay the smack down. (and tohit debuffs)

I feel for either build intuition radial is the best choice with its damage, hold, defense debuffs, range and tohit debuffs. I suppose agility would work too.



I am curious how others have built their toons or would build their toons

Below is a build that may be tankier than it needs to be. But, it is another take on how to build an earth / dark, FWIW. Hopefully it helps. 


Barrier core and melee core hybrid were disabled for the purposes of showing this build, so its base stats are more easily discernible.

Thanks guys for all of your suggestions.....looks like "you can't hit me blapper" wins. Its so hard to choose between "procced up goodness" or dom-tankieness". One question though EnjoyTheJourney.....is barrier needed when your def and res are already high? Wouldn't Ageless be better since you can drop cardiac and get Intuition (or musculature) .

That's a fair question and there may be no clearly "best" answer. Personal preferences about survivability vs maxing out damage are relevant.


Also relevant is the kind of content you intend to play. For example, if you mostly run +0 or +1 speedruns, then max out damage. If you like to solo really hard content, then max out survivability. 


Incidentally, one key to making this build so tanky is to rotate using gather shadows + unrelenting (pushing defense levels to well over softcap for one minute) and barrier, as well as rotating in melee hybrid from time to time. Kudos to Mezmera for pointing out how this can make a dom much more survivable. That's not to say, though, that you can't reasonably take intuition radial / ageless radial (debuff resistances) or ageless core (endless endurance).

Here's the build I used on my Earth/Dark Dominator. It could use some fine tuning.


I picked Leviathan as the APP for Water Spout, a Resist armor, and Hibernate.


Defense to Slash/Lethal/Melee and Ranged is below cap but after hitting enemies with Power Up'ed Dark Blasts + Earthquake you should be capped most of the time vs everything but an AV. If feeling pressure you can also cap by eating a single Purple inspiration.


This is meant to be played with Destiny Ageless as the Destiny power choice, and may eat too much endurance to be viable prior to that.


You could definitely swap out Grant Invisibility if you wanted. It's mildly useful to make your pet invisible and give him a touch of extra defense but hardly gamebreaking. Just be aware losing the LoTG there drops your global Recharge below permadom levels without outside boosters (a base booster or the extra Recharge in Ageless managed well).
