I hadn't actually played DM at all since it got buffed and was very surprised by the rehashed Touch of Fear. Between it and Shadow Maul's buff, the AoE output of DM is considerably better than it once was.

Indeed. DM doesn't really need outside attacks these days. The single target rotation is strong and both the aoes recharge quickly enough.

@HexxenBeast, here is my version of this. It's built to have a broad base of resistance for the scaling resistance to work from and be as close as I could to the incarnate softcaps without compromising damage. It could go more defensive by 6 slotting the purples for more tox/psi res or could back off the defence to slot a couple more health/endurance uniques.

I just picked up Touch of Fear while levelling, and it's damage is only so so, but it is an AoE which is nice and it recycles very fast, so am definitely considering putting it in somehow. I can see how with damage enhancements it could go up a lot, right now just have 1 acc and 1 dam SO and it's slipped into my repertoire nicely

The trick to Touch of Fear is procs. Have a look at the build I posted above - I've used that slotting several times and it's never failed me. Avoid slotting anything other than melee aoe and taunt procs though - the fear and tohit debuff procs only work on the single target aspect of the power not the aoe.

Eh, I /just/ got it, I'm sticking SO's into everything since I just hit 24, I'll worry about sets at 30+ 🙂

Procs too

But I have your build saved so I can take a look in detail later.

Thanks for that!

I went the "as durable as possible" route, and in homage to Heraclea, but if you're interested in a (no ToF) Inv/DM build, here's mine:

@PLVRIZR Invulnerability is so  overdone it holds no interest to me. My only 50 on live was an inv/ss tanker and... it's so boring.

SR wasn't an option for tankers back in the day, so am going to try and make it work. I had made a Katana/SR scrapper on Live but I didn't get very far with it.

Best of luck and the only SR I ever had was a really fun Claws/SR scrapper on Live (pre-IO/pre-Incarnate), that I did get to 50.

My main (currently ~VL 400) is NUT, and you're right, he's much more fun ex'd down to mid 30s or above, where I have to actually use Dull Pain to survive.  +4/*8 ITFs are a cakewalk.  Having said that, there's not much more satisfying than Foot Stomp, every 7-10 seconds 🙂

SR tanks are insanely good. Other than a handful of mobs with very high tohit buffs (Rularuu eyeballs, DE quartz eminators), Recluse with the towers up), they are unkillable.

From my tool tip, Siphon Life hits for the same as Shadow Punch. Midnight Grasp, Smite, and Gloom all hit harder than it.

Hmm.  My MIDS is showing the following on a /Dark tank:

SP 56
SM 88
SL 131
MG 184
