Anyone know how to use the /getglobalsilent <CharacterName> command? For the life of me I can't figure it out!

Information I've unearthed so far is that the command was created for Paragon Chat way back in 2015 (along with Get_Global_Name), with the intention to use it in conjunction with creating player notes (by using a player's global name I assume).

When I use the command in game, it doesn't error out. So it appears to "function" but I can't see it do anything. Other commands like this that didn't error out but also didn't work, turned out to only work when a different, specific window was open.  Maybe this works in the same way? But what window???

You have no idea how funny this is. 🙂

BlackSpectre is doing a yeoman job of collecting, organizing and cleaning up slash commands from various sources, including the Guide, and he's found a number of glitches in the latter (mostly typoes or places where I did things like setoption instead of optionset and never caught it).

I didn't look closely when he brought this one up. I think it's either obsolete or a synonym for getglobalnamesilent, which definitely is. I should remove it from the cross reference list, the only place it appears.

Yeah, when I actually looked at it, I noticed that, but figured why not 😛

Oh, make no mistake, the referral is much appreciated. I just wish it had something to offer besides, basically, "oops." 🙂

Neither. get_global_name_silent isn't a command and doesn't exist.

get_global_silent does the same thing as get_global_name except it doesn't print the results to the chat window. So it's not useful as a manually typed slash command.

It's used internally by the player note system to retrieve the global name when you add a note to a character the client doesn't already know the global for.

Thanks guys! I've been so busy lately that I haven't have a chance to check back at the forums. The good news is, starting tomorrow, things are going to slow down. 🙂

OK. Crossing getglobalsilent off my list. That's actually a relief!
