Hello forums,

 

I would like some feedback on a build I cobbled together. It manages to have pretty good defenses, debuffs, END management, and Perma PA. Without Agility Core, I need a Recharge Reduction in PA, but with Agility Core I can put in a Damage/ACC Hami. I also managed to fit in Arcane Bolt and Fireball, so have some pew-pew options as well. My biggest concern is the gaping hole in toxic resistance, but other than that I think it looks pretty good. Is there anything I am missing or better way to slot this with the powers I picked? I would have loved to try and fit Enflame in to perhaps help the PA with AoE damage (it's fantastic on MM's) but sadly there was simply no room for it, at least in this setup.

  • Slot Tar Patch with 1 recharge IO.
  • Other than the set bonus, I wouldn't enhance Howling Twilight for stun. It's mag 2 and only affects minions.
  • Slot Spectral Terror for -tohit, not fear.
  • Slotting Soul Absorption for accuracy and damage is a waste. The power does no damage and the accuracy only affects the -tohit. The buff is autohit. I would move the Preventative Medicine from Twilight Grasp here.
  • Swap Group Invisibility for Superior Invisibility.

Just want to point out a few things, about the above.
Twilight Grasp does need Acc but you're running tactics. I run Preventive Med in Twilight Grasp often and is hits very reliably.

Yes, 1 Rech IO Tar patch is all you should slot
Howling Twilight with the Stun Purple set is great.  You're getting great bonuses, so don't worry about the stun chance.  You'll get this up often for Rez and minor Mez
Spectral Terror is a great place to slot the controller ATO

Soul Absorption is best with 5 slot of something like Panacea IMO.  It'll give you a great Regen bonus, and you'll still have great Recovery bonus.

Group invisibility is 100% viable in this build. Do not take Superior Invisibility.  You cannot run Sup Invis at the same time as Shadow Fall. Shadow Fall bonuses do not fall off in combat and is a team buff.  You can run Group Invis and hit it with Fade.

Thank you both for the input, feedback, and advice. I do see a few changes I will make, but when I was slotting I was mostly chasing Recharge and Defenses, with ways to ensure smooth Resistance/Mezz/END management. I will look at the suggested slotting such as the Spectral Terror but I am at work this exact moment and don't have access.

All that matters is perma PA, fade and soul absorption. The heal works better with some accuracy slotted and if you toss in 4 cloud senses and a couple nictus you'll get accuracy/heal and enhance the - to hit as well as getting a recharge bonus. Without the fighting pool you'll be struggling to keep the recharge and get the melee and aoe defenses up but from playing these are irrelevant as is having any heal sets slotted in soul absorption as a single click of the heal will always top you up, so i find ranged defense covers pretty much everything. I also skipped fighting on both my live builds and HC ones. Having tried sorcery i found it hit and miss, rune is handy at times especially when exempting but the downtime is massive. I usually take clarion anyway for high end stuff but mez hasn't been much of an issue as PA are the targets of most enemy attacks and you just need to position yourself well to avoid it. I still run soul for both thematic reasons and because i prefer having that extra pet and the soul shield is better than the fire version. Dark oblit/fireball i see very little difference in which is taken with the exception that you have more proc options with oblit. If i toss soul epics out and replace them with fire and rune it'd look something like this, but i am considering throwing in fighting pool over sorcery just to bump my resists: (Mystic Flight should have a winters piece in)

Personally I like Clouded Senses in Spectral for the increased -ToHit but your build seems pretty solid. 

 

Other than that from my experience using Disruptor Blast for moar AoE Epic AoEs aren't fantastic on a set with not much AoE Containment. If I was bothered respeccing I'd probably pick the Tarantula from Mace. I've Poisonous Ray rather than Arcane Bolt (for the extra -resist and how proccable it is).

True, but you're still just enhancing fear duration,. The ATO doesn't enhance -tohit. Spooky has a 20-foot AoE aura with 15% -tohit, which is really worth enhancing.

Good point. I forgot about Shadow Fall and assumed GI was a mule (the in-combat defense it provides is pretty low).

Awesome feedback everyone, thank you. Is much appreciated! The build that Mekomancer is definitely better than my initial one. May take that one and make some tinker-changes, such as the Ragnarok KD into howling twilight, or Frozen Blast Immob as Carnifax suggested.

HT gives a pretty good stun so the immob would prevent them all from wandering off, I just really enjoy the control aspect of the sudden AoE groupflop. 😁

I totally get that. Dual Pistols > Hail of Bullets with the Winters Avalanche "Chance for Knockdown" is one of my favourite things in the game. 

 

If I had 3 slots from somewhere Frozen Blast Recharge/%Immob, Ragnarok %Knockdown and a +5 recharge IO would totally be how I'd slot it now.

The Mids Tooltip on Spectral Terror shows an initial 5 second 15% -tohit and then a 20 second 15% -tohit every 8 seconds.  That pulsing aura is tagged as [Ignores Enhancements and Buffs].  So while enhancing that 5 second -15% is nothing to scoff at, I've been using Spectral Terror as a proc bomb instead:

Glimpse of the Abyss:  Chance for Psionic Damage

Superior Will of the Controller:  Chance for Psionic Damage

Superior Overpowering Presence: Energy Font

Unspeakable Terror:  Disorient Bonus

Unspeakable Terror:  Acc/Recharge

Unspeakable Terror:  Acc/Endredx

 

So now minions have a chance to be Disoriented and Feared, and all targets have a chance to take Psi damage and/or spawn an Energy Font.  Both Superior procs give a Recharge enhancement as well as the Acc/Recharge I slotted, which does mess up a bit of the proc math, but Spooky has a base 45 second recharge anyway which means he's a beast regardless.

 

If Phantom Army wasn't there, Spectral Terror would be *the* set defining power of Illusion

Mid's is incorrect. Spectral Terror is a pet with 2 powers: 

  1. Cloak of Fear is a 20 foot radius PBAoE aura which does the following every 5 seconds: a) 7.45 second mag 3 fear; b) 5 second 15% -tohit. Both the fear and the -tohit can be enhanced. https://cod.uberguy.net/html/power.html?power=pets.terror.cloak_of_fear&at=minion_pets
  2. Terrify is a single target ranged attack which does the following: a) 2.98 second mag 3 fear; b) 22.35 second mag 3 fear after 2 second delay; c) 20 second 15% -tohit. Awesome, thank you.  That's great to know.

 

I'm unsure if I would want to change my slotting though - afaik Spooky needs accuracy which would mean dropping my procs to fit in -tohit
