Fire/Stone/Blaze: Build Evolution and Marginally Coherent Ramblings

First draft of a target build.  Thoughts and questions -

 

-- I'm not thrilled with the slotting on Fire Sword, nor thrilled with that being the only %-Res piece in the build, but I wanted the 6th bonus from the Winter set in GFS in order to bolster Stone's complete lack of Fire/Cold defense.

 

-- Tangentially I hadn't planned originally on using either the t1 or t2 from the primary, opting for the epic blast instead, but apparently that might disturb stacking Focus.  I guess I'll see how it plays out.  FB might just become something I use to tag runners, or I figure out how to just alternate in FS when I want to refresh the -Res.  Something to figure out in game.

 

-- Are the Preventative %Absorb and Power Txfr %Heal pieces worth the slot cost on a Stalker, or is base HP too low for them to be worth losing the slots elsewhere?

 

Fireball is non-negotiable. 😉

Ok, 26 levels in and this thing is a proverbial eraser. Just deletes targets like a Stalker should.

 

Something for the Rule Of Cool crowd: Cremate and AS end up looking like blasts when kiting or catching a target on the move.  I might keep Scorch over FS (despite that being less than numerically idea) just for the look of it, but we're stuck with the sword for GFS anyway. Was hoping for alternate animations during the Page 5 update to the set, but since -def has been added to the swords, I don't see that happening anymore.

 

Staying a few seconds ahead of a team with targeted CT to fire off AS on the big bad such that it triggers right when the team arrives is a trick well worth practicing.

 

Only change to the build above so far is that I figured I might as well drop a %Hold in the epic Immob.  In actuality I'll try out both that and Fire Blast as my "tag the runners power" and slot up the one I end up wanting to use.  Recharge on Fireball is just a touch long for using it that way, and far too endo costly to waste on a single runner.

 

I guess it is just the way I build melee these days.  Always with a ranged attack option from an epic/patron pool.

Short update after hitting 50.

 

Why Stone Armor on a Stalker? Brimstone, mostly.  On a Stalker/Scrapper it has a chance to Critical! which I wanted to play with. Stalkers drop Mud Pots, so I don't feel beholden to the No Taunt + Damage Aura dilemma.  Finally, Brimstone, like most Stalker AoE attacks gets a 50% chance to crit out of Hide.

 

Works a treat, as I had hoped it would.

 

Longer update later about leveling process and the whole topic of "Slotting with SOs and Key IO Uniques/Globals/Etc While Leveling" to follow later.

 

Some tweaks to the draft build for the 50 respec. I found I wanted the extra +recovery pieces in Health and the extra slot in Stamina. Devours endurance even before adding Weave in game.  Might balance out with +EndMod from Musc Radial giving me back a slot or two for elsewhere. Particularly getting back a little of the F/C defense.

 

Earth's Embrace is wacky.  The heal and +hp numbers could be flipped on a Stalker - way over HP cap while barely slotting it.  Going Heal/Rech only gets it a couple seconds sooner.

A bit too much RL aggro for a proper update, but as I have referenced this thread a couple times now in other threads I figure I should drop a mildly changed build. Mostly swapped a few pieces between Stone Skin and Minerals in order to take better advantage of boosting to +5 in Stone Skin. Also reclaimed a couple of slots out of Health and Crystal Armor and moved them to the Blaze mastery attacks. Yes, I know I could get more single target damage with a proc-bombed Char in place of FS in the rotation, but I wanted the blast and I wanted it slotted. 😉 The Decimation - %BU in Char is rarely used and mostly experimental. I don't think it helps even in long engagements when it triggers, but it is interesting to try.

 

For whatever reason, my Mids won't boost properly. In game pretty much anything that enhances a stat is boosted to +5 because it is satisfying. 😉

Just some things I like to add, as I think most folks may not know this yet.

 

The Brimstone crit is upfront damage instead of a DoT, and that damage is equivalent to all 3 DoT ticks hitting. That last part is huge. The standard DoT is 3 ticks of 80% cancel-on-miss, which on average does 1.952 ticks per proc. So the crit is 54% more damage than the DoT would normally do on average.

For whatever reason, my Mids won't boost properly. In game pretty much anything that enhances a stat is boosted to +5 because it is satisfying. 😉

Hey Stych!

I've been leveling my own Staff/Stone Stalker and loving it. Sort of using your Stone Armor set up as a template. QQ for you: Do you not take the Unbreakable Guard +Max HP enhancement because you can pretty much get to perma HP cap with just Earth's Embrace?

Yup!

 

EE doesn't need a ton of slots unless chasing bonuses from Heal sets. Since I can't get past the slot inefficiency it takes for the good bonuses on those I rarely take that route though.  It is trivially easy to make the +HP buff permanent and the heal is pretty small anyway so I figured enough recharge for an overlap was enough.
