CityOne Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 (edited) There is an abundance of players using the whitest Ice abilities lately. Everything on the screen is blindingly white to the detriment of identifying foes and using tactics so that I can support my team, because I just cant see shxt. I've played CoH since 2005 and have never had this problem. I have sensitive eyesight anyhow but this issue has only occurred in the last 2 months. I've had to drop several teams reluctantly because of the issue. It's a real pity but I may have to give up the game. It might just be a flavour of the month thing too, hopefully it is, and players will go back to being able to see things instead of blinding everyone unnecessarily. Astralock Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 Try out the VFX Visual Improvement Mod on City Modder. It reduces some graphics that blind the screen during team content, especially raids and trials. It may help you. For more information on City Modder, check out this thread - 2 1
nihilii Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 ^ this mod sounds interesting. For a quick change from within the game, setting "particles" in graphic options to the absolute minimum could help. 1

I get eye pain from the all white ice powers (and people that just decide to make their character all white or glowing white and/or make all the powers white - which I can see to do for no other reason that to be annoying to other players ... to be frankly honest) as well. Here is what I have found works best for me. /macro fx0 "noparticles 1" /macro fx1 "noparticles 0" The command is noparticles so 1 means no particles; and 0 means "yes" to particles. This sounds backwards to me, and that's why my macros are fx0 (particles off) and fx1 (particles on). When you click on the /macro fx0 "noparticles 1" button in your tray, it will immediately take effect. When you click on the /macro fx1 "noparticles 0" button in your try, it will partially restore the FX, but FX won't be entirely restored until you zone. It is completely to my advantage to use this macros and I have them on all my characters. I used to have to leave teams due to people that used way to much white in their character and/or power set. Since using these macros, I'm not sure that I have had to leave any teams over the excessive whiteness issue. And for those of you that like white powers, if you put a little light blue in there ... that really helps cut down the eye pain for those of us that have an issue with the "blinding" white powers. 2 If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

On first look it looks like the best solution for me as not into shoving mod after mod after mod into my pristine system. Thank you Astra for your suggestion. EDIT- that's great, thanks again Ultra, works brilliantly. Edited January 29, 2023 by CityOne 1

I'd guess it is a flavor of the month... kind of. At least one cause might be the identification of Ice Dominators as being critical to completing task forces on the hardest difficulty, especially Aeon. So people are rushing to create characters that would be helpful in those situations. That's my guess anyway. Thank you for bringing this up. I have 2 Ice toons and was completely unaware that white was so obstructive. I'll try to tone it down... 🙂 Edited January 29, 2023 by BlackSpectre typos Black Spectre - A Dark Defender's Home on the Web • The Advanced Bind Guide • The Masters of BAF: A Guide for Leaders and Players • The Wiki List of Slash Commands
Wavicle Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 FFXIV has an option that lets you minimize the effects of other players graphics. It might be cool if this game had something similar, if it doesn't already. Wavicle's Guide To What Really Matters: What Needs To Be Done On Every Toon
