Battle Axe/Bio Scrapper needs help

StoneKarma

Recommended Posts

I thought maybe it would be better to start another thread for the BA/BIO version.

I took one of @Linea's Scrapper Katana/Bio builds and then tried to mimic it with Battle Axe. I couldn't find a spot for a 4th LotG (Katana Divine Avalanche can slot one) but I was able to get about the same Rech from other purple sets. And three Force Feedback +Rech should have at least one of them proc'ing most of the time.

I read the suggested Combat Teleport thread and made a guess as to how to slot it. What are some of the tips that would make this more effective?

Thanks for your help so far, I appreciate it!

Wasn't a fan of CT and grabbed maneuvers instead. Definitely moved a lot of slots around. I tried to keep the "flavor" of your build as much as possible. I'll share my take on BA/BIO in a sec.

@SomeGuy, Thank you for these builds! I think it's really fascinating how they all take the same primary and secondary powers, but then have quite different outcomes with slotting and pool power selection. As they say in basketball, "you're putting on a clinic!"

I swapped in Shadow Meld for the fire pool.

Shadow Meld does a couple of things for the build. Gives it a 5th LotG, and soft caps DEF as a very good Oh %@#! button. I followed most of your slotting. Here is what I've ended up with.

With your slotting, I had more slots to do things with, so I worked on getting defenses up. I think barring any blaring oversight or omissions here is the final build.

I think:

I'd like to get some more melee defense in there, and I would sacrifice some of the global recharge you have in there currently to do it.  I think you may be over slotted for endurance recovery, since DNA Siphon and Parasitic Aura are great endurance tools.

Here's a quick build I put together.  Personally, I would use a bunch of HO/DSOs and boost things to bejebus, but hopefully this keeps to your vision:

Thanks everyone for the hints and tips. I think barring any glaring oversight, here is the final build with the correct version of Mids and the NuAxe.

This is a very expensive build, but I think it will be fun to work towards it. A total of six purple sets, plus a lot of expensive individual pieces. But I've certainly done worse.

Shadow Meld was a nice addition, and I have room for a travel power. With SJ or SS. Is there a min/max reason to do one or the other, or is it mostly personal preference?

I will always be on a team with this toon, so I expect a few others to be running Maneuvers, so DEF will be close to soft cap and with Shadow Meld, it will be over the the softcap about half the time (if I'm paying attention).

Well, I made it to 50, all decked out in my shiny new IOs and I must say, this is *very* endurance heavy. I routinely run out of endurance in the middle of the first or second mob. During the battle with the computer in the 3rd mission of the ITF, I have to rest several times during the fight. Either run away and Rest or just stand there. I've never had a Scrapper so Endurance heavy.

I hope they fix it, just adjust the End and maybe tweak the recharge for some of the powers.

-OR- Did I just choose Primary/Secondary poorly? Is there another combo to consider without the Endurance problems?

I'll agree that Axe is End heavy.

Can't open the mids, but what I wound up doing with my Ax characters is they both run Cardiac and do have some sets slotted that give End Discounts.  Plus Perf Shifters in the likely places.    The scrapper isn't done yet, but currently runs pretty well for end purposes when not exemplared.

So, important Bio tip:

DNA Siphon gives you endurance and health for every living enemy it hits, but recovery and regeneration for every dead enemy it hits.  Getting the most out of Bio, in my experience, means using DNA Siphon carefully, when you have a good mix of alive and dead enemies for it to hit.  If you hit only alive enemies in a large spawn, you easily fill up your endurance and health bars fully, but then you've got a long time before you get any more use out of it.  If you hit a mix of alive and dead enemies, you still refill both bars, but then you get a bunch of regen and recovery to tide you over until it comes off of cooldown.

I do not suggest proc-bombing DNA Siphon unless you largely work in big groups in unchallenging content.  It's a powerful survivability tool, you need it on the relatively fragile Bio armor.

I do not suggest proc-bombing DNA Siphon unless you largely work in big groups in unchallenging content.  It's a powerful survivability tool, you need it on the relatively fragile Bio armor.

DNA Siphon is a "super power", in part because there are so many ways you can go with it.  Definitely my favorite power in the game for what it does.

Personally, I'm looking for as much recharge and accuracy as I can get, then I generally use procs over heal, endurance, and damage (I'm running +4/x8, and Ablative Carapace and Parasitic Aura generally cover most of my healing needs).  Some great procs:

Fury of the Glad -res

Avalanche/Overwhelming Force knockdown

Energy Manipulator stun

any ATO proc you are ok with coming up every 30-60 seconds

any damage procs

I used to use Theft of Essence proc out of habit but in a big crowd you get so much endurance anyway I find better uses for that slot.  All of these procs should be pretty much at or close to 90% activation rates (I think that my recharge is generally in the 30-45 second range).

Who run Bartertown?
