heyedwin
I followed the directions from : https://forums.homecomingservers.com/getting-started/ After installing the game, nothing happens. Do I need to install 'Tequila'? Or any other program to make it work on Windows 11? I have Malwarebytes and have already placed the folder(s) where 'City of Heroe's is installed in, into the 'allow list'. I've re-installed it in my three other ssds and none of the including my main C drive ssd can make the game run/work. ------------------ PC Specs Windows 11 64bit 3090 (not OC'd) 5950x @4.15 GHz (16c 32t) 64gb of Ram 4x SSDs
Captain Fabulous
What happens when you try to run the Homecoming launcher? No, you don't need Tequila. It will soon be unsupported.

(edit) Is there a log I can find and share with you, that'll allow you to see what's causing it? When I try to delete the Game folder, it tells me that, "it is open in another program." But when I reboot my PC, I can delete it. And when I re-install it, it's the same thing. No window prompting me that the install is complete. In fact, no window at all after clicking on install. Is it still installing without giving me a window showing the amount of install that is left to install? Because that's what happens when I install the game. Check the shortcut for permissions to run as admin. I run the game on a Xflow Asus 13 with Windows 11 (Updated just yesterday) and have no problems running it with admin mode selected on the permissions. heyedwin
Sorry in advance. I didn't know I'd get an instant reply. I've edited (added) more info to my previous reply. And there is no shortcut. I simply install and wait, but there is no usual window where it shows you the amount left to install before completing.

Hm, you still have the installer? Right click and install with admin permissions, that might work past the possible flag from Microsoft throwing up. It's possible your antivirus is flagging the game installer/launcher. Sorry, my techy side is itching that that might be the issue. With that additional information, it looks like it's trying to launch but something is obstructing it from displaying. Possible update for the internal game file support maybe? Afterthought: When you alt+tab, does it display anything for Homecoming or City of Heroes in the multiwindow choices it pops up? heyedwin
I've allowed it through windows 11 firewall and disabled malwarebytes and I tried (with the installer hcinstall.exe) the 'right click > run as admin' and the same thing, nothing. It's fine. I'll try again later on the year during summer time. I'll play WoW and other games in the mean time. I'm happy that you guys got an official license for City of Heroes, congrats on that. Wait for an official response, they may have more instructions on what the issue may be. I can only presume as someone that's tech savvy. I do hope that it can be made to run on your system, we love having new players here. 1 Roleplaying mentor volunteer, and mentorship contributor. Psyonico
If you installed to the default location, you should be able to find a folder in C:\Games\CoH Homecoming I'm doing this from memory, it might just be C:\Games\Homecoming Anyway, in that folder there should be a file you can create a shortcut from What this team needs is more Defenders
Captain Fabulous
Do you have a drive other than C? If so, try installing to it instead. When you run the installer it should ask you where you want it installed, then a brief bar to show the install progress. Then you should see a license agreement, and then you'll see the main launcher screen. How far in this process are you getting?
City Council Michiyo Posted January 14 City Council Share Posted January 14 I helped another user with the same issue on Discord. I'd recommend rebooting your PC and trying to reinstall, if that fails go to the location you set for the install, by default C:\Games\Homecoming, then into bin and finally win64, and run launcher.exe from there (assuming it exists). If that works just make your own shortcut on your desktop to the launcher.exe in this folder. 1

I had what looks to have been the same issue as OP, but then dug out the 64-bit client and it all seems to be working now. Thanks for the advice Michiyo! Thanks for the advice Michiyo! That's a decent work-around, but it sounds like some level of system protection is acting up. I know that on a fresh OS install (even without the added AV) it will always seem to want to block the initial launch of the app. The fact that there's no shortcut being created makes me wonder if the installer is still in a protected folder and it itself is being blocked by the security. I'd try dragging the installer to some random folder like C:\Temp (or wherever you have a manual temp folder / if you do), flag that file / folder as safe and Then install to something like C:\Games\Homecoming (or wherever you are putting it that's NOT in the user folder or other system protected folder). 19 hours ago, Michiyo said: by default C:\Games\Homecoming I'm kinda wondering if I started this 'default' as that's how "I" organize things and I'm pretty sure that's my personal example in the guides I made?! 😛 OG Server: Pinnacle <||> Current Primary Server: Torchbearer || Also found on the others if desired <||> Generally Inactive Installing CoX: Windows || MacOS || MacOS for M1 <||> Migrating Data from an Older Installation Clubs: Mid's Hero Designer || PC Builders || HC Wiki || Jerk Hackers Old Forums <||> Titan Network <||> Heroica! I hope they include this work around in their https://forums.homecomingservers.com/getting-started/ page. Think about all the lost players because of it.
