I have a tanker that is Dark Armor and Dark Melee, as per design there are severe weakness to energy and toxic, which makes the tank a bit mediocre for level 50 content, for instance ITF is plastered with energy attacks, and APEX if full of energy and toxic, which obviously makes this kind of tank rather poor.

So I looked at the incarnate abilities to help with these terrible resistance gaps, and tried the Alpha - Resilient Core Paragon, which advertises a 33% increase, which quickly caught my eye as the solution to my problem.

So I had a 44% resistance to energy, and expected that 44*1.33=58%, which is no miracle problem solver, but at least it makes less bad. When I slotted the Alpha T4 Resilient, I went from 44 to 47, which is hardly 33% and more like 6% which is very underwhelming, if not pointless.

So either the game is not applying the bonus right, or the description of the benefit is simply wrong or need to be clarified as in 33% of what is increased?

I would suspect that the rest of the Alpha descriptions, may also suffer from lack of clarity as well

Regards

Tankers with Dark Armor get 20% energy resistance from their armor powers. 20 x 1.33 = 26.6. After all your enhancements plus Resilient Core Paragon, your energy resist is 20% x (slotted enhancement resist buffs + IO set bonus resist buffs + Resilient Core Paragon - efficiency reductions from ED after you reach ED's cut off level) = 47. Nothing boosting any of your character's stats takes your enhanced values and figures its boost from that. It is always the base stat being used to determine the boost. So yes, Resilient Core Paragon is boosting your energy damage resistance by the listed 33%, but derived from your base value with all other listed factors.

Alpha slot doesn't do a flat increase like you think it does. It works like an enhancement.  So any power that increases resistance will be 33% stronger, barring ED caps.

What this team needs is more Defenders

"Two thirds of these bonuses ignore the effects of enhancement diminishing returns."

Wait. Is the formula not resistance = baseValue * ( 1 + [enh+alpha]ED + alphanonED ) + setBonus ?

(Set bonuses on the outside at a flat value.)

EDIT: Er, for a single power and ignoring buffs/debuffs.

Aren't set bonuses tacked-on as a flat value after all your powers go through ED/alpha, not as a part of the enhancement (and alpha) calculations?

Not to the best of my knowledge. They are still modifiers to the base power, you can just get them from outside the power to be enhanced. (Edit: Some are, yes, specifically the procs to the best of my knowledge. Others aren't.)

Edit: You may be right.

Edit again: Looks like you're right. My mistake. Apologies.

Thank  you for the clarification, it helps me understand, never said it was broken, if you all look, I left it as a possibility.

Once more thank you for the clarification
