Help me pick the best at and armor set for psi melee!

I'm planning a new character and I want to utilize psi melee as I find the animations really cool. Problem is I can't seem to figure out a good armor set to compliment it or a good at. I hear shield is good with it but also bio? I hate clickiness though so I'm open to suggestions!

I should add I'm not inclined to play tankers unless the power set/concept fits and I've lost my love of brutes

I've got a Psi/SR scrapper that's fun and largely indestructible. Very easy to cap defense and you're immune to defense debuffs. Other than putting Practiced Brawler on auto, there are no clicks.

 

Shield is also a very good set. Not as easy to cap defenses but adds +dmg and +hp. Similar to SR, you put Active Defense on auto and there are no other clicks outside of the T9. Provides an additional AoE attack in Shield Charge.

 

I've only played Bio on a sentinel, but it's definitely more clicky.

SR is definitely a contender also looking at stone because the combination of purple gemstones and purple psi blades is appealing

Stone is very solid. I'm currently doing it on a stalker, which gets Hide instead of Mud Pots. The stalker version of Psi Melee loses Psi Blade Sweep for Assassin's Psi Blade (giving you 5 ST attacks and only 1 AoE), so I'd be inclined to go scrapper with Psi.

Do you happen to have a build for psi/dark/mu stalker? That combo sounds sick for a paranormal hero

Take some critiques afterwards, then readjust.

But start playing it, and then see what you need.

Don't skip anything until the respec at 50.
Play it out, get the uniques in first.
Get your Assassin's Mark ATO, and the build up reset~
Play for it in a budget exemplar mindset first.

Here you go. You can look this over. Since I didn't see an AT listed, just went with Tank. You can color your powers to fit Psi look as well.  Hands down, Rad Armor is the best armor.  Heals, Absorbs, PBAOE attack that also HoT's allies near you when you do it, etc..

I like but don't love psi melee -- I feel that the minute you get Mass Levitate then that becomes the defining mechanism (at least how I play!).

 

That said, this thread has me interested in a Psi/Stone scrapper and a Psi/Fire brute now.

Psi stalkers are ok. AS in exchange for psi sweep is a good trade. Crit gpb with insight is satisfying. Insight lockout is frustrating.

Rad armor being the best armor is HIGHLY debatable. They even mentioned not doing Tankers unless there was a good reason for it. Rad would help supplement Psi's type of damage, and that's the end of what makes Rad great for Psi.

 

I would skip DA for a Stalker. You lose the one source of an extra damage type by going Stalker, and that being the damage aura. Also, Dark is a Resist set which tend to be lacking on Stalkers so it is hardly 'the best armor and AT' for Psi. You could go Psi/shield as Shield boosts your damage and offers Shield Charge. Also, Shield Charge is a pet. I'll let you figure that out on your own. I would go with the energy shield look and color it pink or whatever color you want. Even if Psi isn't in a great place as a set, I have repeatedly talked myself out of rolling this build just due to how cool it would look. 

 

Croax has done a ton of work offering a build for each type of Stalker build there is. Outside of their love affair with Super Speed as their travel power, I tend to find very little issues with the builds. I literally tweaked a Stalker build of theirs to make a Brute version.

Will echo this one.

If you're looking at Psi Melee then 100% go Stalker; because performancewise it's hot garbage on the other ATs but Assassin's Strike props it up considerably.
And if you're going Stalker then you'll likely be lacking in AoE damage unless you really lean into specific Epic Pool attacks - Shield Charge is an obivous answer there.

 

If you're not sold on /Shield, then /Ice would be my next choice. No AoE damage or damage buffs... but a hefty heal and higher MaxHP, +perception, decent DDR and Recharge debuff resistance... and Icy bastion is an incredible T9 that's only available on Stalkers and Sentinels.

Sr, willpower, shield or ninjitsu.

 

Sr just for the crazy high defense.

Shield for the balance of defense and some resists.

Ninjitsu has good defense and a heal.

 

Willpower for role-playing and some defense with regen. The role-playing is the mental ability to change your body to always succeed while using psi melee to attack with your mental abilities.

Just to add for a case for going Stalker, I feel like Psi on a Stalker could at least be talked into taking Boggle, which will increase the chances for Insight to be triggered. Yes, any AT using Psi could do the same. I just feel like a Stalker would be the one to actually use it. It could be a one slot Acc wonder as well unless you found more slots for it.

Everyone should take Boggle because confusing enemies is fun and recruiting a helper Lt. also diversifies your damage.

I'm doing psi/shield stalker but it's back burner as my funds are low after finishing ioing two characters. Once they build back up I'm gonna use croaxs build as a power pick guide but get boggle and use level up slotting until 50th.

While I agree that Psi Melee isn't a top tier set, I don't understand the hate for Psi Blade Sweep. Although it's a somewhat narrow cone, it has higher damage than either of the T1 attacks (and close to their DPA). I think swapping it for Assassin's Psi Blade on the stalker version was a mistake. Several of the best stalker primaries kept both the cones and the PBAoE. In the case of Ice Melee they swapped Greater Ice Sword for Assassin's Ice Sword and in the case of Street Justice they swapped Rib Cracker for Assassin's Strike. I think it would have been better to swap TK Blow or Greater Psi Blade for Assassin's Psi Blade instead of Psi Blade Sweep.
