Hawk Enforcer Posted Wednesday at 04:22 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:22 PM So i have played quite a few MMOs and COH has the ability to bypass most of the world through travel powers. would it be possible or even a good idea to make an event where all travel powers are removed and you are forced to walk around the city like other MMOs (Just an idea but like the story could be war walls are malfunctioning or being used to suppress travel powers) OR maybe make a hardcore character like in diablo where all travel powers are removed. Just an idea to bring a fresh take. I've made a character where i purposely don't take travel powers to make me explore more. Was curious if this was plausible or if it was even a good idea 😛 2
PeregrineFalcon Posted Wednesday at 04:45 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:45 PM I don't know if it's a good idea as an event, but I've had natural characters in the past that didn't have a travel power. One of my first characters, an AR/DEV Blaster, was a guy with no travel powers, and back then there were no temp travel powers either. I had to run everywhere all the way up to level 50. I got to know the layout of the maps, the safe travel routes, and the dangerous places where the spawns were too close to get past, very well. I wouldn't want to do it again, but it's something that every player should experience once. Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own.
Hawk Enforcer Posted Wednesday at 04:50 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 04:50 PM if it was an event or a separate mode there might be more people to participate and would add a more strategic aspect outside of raids and itrials since most things can be steam rolled over. be def something that should be tried. OR maybe something smaller like a badge or a title for 1-50 with no travel powers. im always up for new badges 😛

lemming Posted Wednesday at 05:34 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:34 PM Well, you can get the badges for not using Travel Powers with Ouro. And that function is available for Task Forces. 1 3
Psyonico Posted Wednesday at 07:33 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:33 PM I would hate an event that prevented me from using a power I picked. I don't see a reason to create a mode that prevents a travel power from being picked... If you have a character that wants such a mode, simply don't pick a travel power, and don't use the jetpack you get at level 2. 2 What this team needs is more Defenders
Luminara Posted Wednesday at 07:41 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:41 PM I have a build capable of reaching 70 mph without a travel power. If I did that with a power set like Electric Armor, or sentinel /Bio, or a Bane, even faster. A Kinetics character can cap Run or Jump speed, for him/herself and everyone else, without travel powers. So while an event which restricts travel powers is plausible, it wouldn't have the expected effect unless numerous other powers, all +Movement set bonuses and all relevant temp powers were also restricted. And it probably wouldn't be a very well-liked event, considering that this is a superhero/villain game, and being able to fly, teleport, leap tall buildings in a single bound or run so fast that you're a blur are kind of a foundation of superheroes/villains. Being The Flash would suck hairy yak balls without super speed, for example. 2 hours ago, Hawk Enforcer said: maybe something smaller like a badge or a title for 1-50 with no travel powers "I went AFK for 4 hours while someone power-leveled me to 50" would be a perfect title for that badge, don't you think? 1 Get busy living... or get busy dying. That's goddamn right.
megaericzero Posted Wednesday at 08:54 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:54 PM What would be the reason/goal for the event?
biostem Posted Wednesday at 08:59 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:59 PM I would never want to force the loss of travel powers on anybody, at least not in the main game world. Rather, an instanced event, maybe something like a giant hedge maze, could work...
BasiliskXVIII Posted Wednesday at 09:14 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:14 PM I feel like this would be just more annoying than fun. Imagine starting a Synapse TF and then suddenly Skyway shuts down travel powers. Unless turning them back on again was something really, really trivial, (in which case, why bother with the event?) this feels like it'd just be a good way to piss everyone in the zone off and convince them to leave until it's done. You can't mandate that people have fun doing the things that you like, and trying to force them to is a good way to make them actively dislike it. It's annoying enough when you're flying from mission to mission and get pot-shotted out of the air on a lowbie when a Rikti Invasion happens. It also messes with lore factors too. After all, maybe some kind of remote interference might turn off a jetpack, but how do you turn off someone's wings? If you want people to go out of their way to slow down and explore, then a far better way would be to reward that behaviour. Maybe a series of badges like "x number of miles travelled without using a travel power." I don't know if that's something that can be tracked, but rewarding slow travel is definitely something I'd rather see over force-disabling fast travel. 1 1
biostem Posted Wednesday at 09:19 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:19 PM (edited) How about an event where some "bizarro" copy of a zone appeared, (optional to enter, of course), where player characters are basically turned into plain old civilians, and have to try to get the attention of passing heroes, to save their purses from mean old Hellions and Skulls? All your powers get replaced with "call for help" and "hold purse really really tightly"... Edited Wednesday at 09:19 PM by biostem
