StriderIV Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) Looking to make a homage hero inspired by Magneto! I was first leaning Dominator with either Grav/Psychic Assault or Grav/Sonic Assault. Gravity Control makes sense and both those assault sets work well for his energy powers when re-colored. Dominator with Domination just seemed fitting to who Magneto is as a character. My next thought was a Controller, and there was really only one combo there that made sense for me: Grav/Force Field. Magneto uses a ton of FF’s in the comics. This would be much less “fighty” for Magneto and lean in more on his zone control aspect. Lastly, I was liking the idea of a Defender as well. I will admit, it is more inspired by his recent appearance in Marvel Rivals. Force Field would be the obvious primary. For the secondary, I was once again leaning towards either Psychic or Sonic blast as they both have some KB/KD and control options. Sonic Blast also has some of those kind of rings Magneto shoots in the comics/cartoons. I recently ran Energy Blast, so I’m passing over that. The “dark horse” would probably be Radiation blast. Some of its powers, when re-colored, could be very fitting. Lastly, he has Electo-magnetic powers, so maybe Elec Affinity and Sonic Blast? I’d love to hear your thoughts/suggestions! Troo Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) You could try a Electrical Blast / Dark Miasma Hover Corruptor. That might not seem like the powers you're looking for but it's likely the 'feel' you are craving. As a bonus, it could be your own character. No intellectual property trampling required. It's an epic pairing that feels like the boss of everything. Big debuffs with shockingly good control. (not quite as good on a Defender for me.. ymmv) Edited January 8 by Troo 1 "Homecoming is not perfect but it is still better than the alternative.. at least so far" - Unknown (Wise words Unknown!) Also, absolutely want it to be more an “homage” with a similar power fantasy… I promise not to call home “Mag-Neato” or anything. Although now I love that name. 1
One IV All Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I feel like FF/Sonic Defender could be fitting and REALLY good as well. Sonic has those ring attacks like you said which can kind of be his “magnetic waves.” I believe some also do KB/KD? You could use an electrical aura or Ion Incarnate for the electrical part. 1
BuiltDifferent5 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I’d probably second the FF/Sonic Defender! Although the Dominator archetype seems really fitting for Magneto.

Ultimo Posted Sunday at 06:27 AM Posted Sunday at 06:27 AM I struggle with my own Magneto homage. I've tried a few combos, but my feeling is they all need to include Force Fields. They're kind of definitive. That limits him somewhat. My first try was a Gravity Control/Force Fields Controller. The gravity attacks are good for what they are, and Propel does get him throwing heavy things at enemies, but it kind of conjures them out of thin air. It's too teleporty, if you take my meaning. My second try was a Force Fields/Seismic Blast Defender (and Corrupter with the sets reversed). I liked the Defender version better because his force fields were more effective, and I didn't really notice much difference in damage output. The Seismic Blasts, I defined as pulling debris from the air and ground (like the little iron filings and stuff Magneto used to encase Banshee a couple of times), making rocks and stuff to smack foes with. But, it felt like rationalization, and just didn't quite have the LOOK I wanted. It just didn't feel right, if you take my meaning. The only other class that has a force field is a Peacebringer, but that's just too blasty (and awfully squishy). There's not any other class with force fields, so it's really down to the Controller or the Defender for me. Whichever I end up sticking with, I'll likely give them either Psychic Mastery or Electric or Mu Mastery to cover that aspect of Magneto's powers. Nowhere near that level yet, so that's for future consideration. 1

My only hesitancy there is Seismic wants you in the ground for it to do it’s best. I almost imagine Magneto floating around haha

Being on the ground means foes getting to melee get knocked down. Sometimes. Being in the air accomplishes the same thing, really.
tidge Posted yesterday at 01:34 PM Posted yesterday at 01:34 PM Here are a couple of power pool suggestions to channel "Magneto" Hover (with or without Fly) is IMO necessary to get that travel feels of Magneto. It's pretty much his flight pose from the first X-Men films. I like the Force of Will's Wall of Force animation (with knockdown!), and the predicate powers have those squiggly mind lines!
