Yeah it was weird.  I was running a brute and doing normal brute madness.  The team leader got pissed.  But then anytime i was in game for a week ( i finally just went to excelsior) would send me tells or post comments anytime i used public channels.  Funny, like little dog trying to kill you funny…..

Perhaps it's just a slightly skewed perspective. Coming from a smaller server, missing out on an activity you'd like to run due to organizer imposed restrictions may carry more weight than missing out on one on Excel because on Excel you can just wait 10-15 min and someone else will probably be running the same or similar activities with no restrictions.

Like I said, i been here for years.  Mostly on the RP server.  When someone on the rp server runs a farm many times its an open farm.  I see on Excelsior farm looking for hitters/buffers over lvl 30.  Or i see radio mission lfm over 20, or someone is looking for a hollows run for 3 more and i say ok, and they come back with do you have any other characters besides an MM?  I told the person i don't, this is my only character on the server.  True i have many on the rp server which is what i said.  Then ghosted.

My impression is not good.  But tell me the other side so i can understand if there is one.

Anyone know what’s problematic about anything the OP alleged?

I see respondents essentially implying that the OP ran into posters who are “jerks” or “rude” or “elitest”, but I don’t see that reflected anywhere in the OP.

Doesn't sound like a fun time to me.

Personally I don’t usually bother broadcasting restrictions when filling out a group with pugs. Half the respondents in LFG just ignore those restrictions and ask to join anyway. But I don’t think not wanting to play with masterminds reflects on one’s character at all, and I don’t even find it unreasonable.

I have had some memorable bad times with MM and the uncontrolled pets.  Hilariously funny looking back.  At the time it was unfunny.  But I never restrict what someone brings.  I love that in CoH we show up with whatever archetype in whatever costume with whatever alignment and go suicide squad on TF/SF/trials.  LOVE it.

I do most of my playing on a small server because I enjoy the predictability and comfortable small-town vibe.  It's easy to quickly understand what the regular event organizers expect from their leagues.

You've touched on the downside.  I've given up on one of the scheduled raids on my main server because the leader can't help but randomly blurt out extremely divisive political statements.  Thankfully, nothing I've seen them say is overtly hateful, but it makes me uncomfortable enough that they're now on my ignore list.  On the big shards, I can easily find multiple opportunities to engage with raid leaders that don't use the game as a soapbox.

So Excel will give you more opportunities to interact with jerks, but also more opportunities to avoid them.

The 'no MM's' thing is utterly bizarre to me.

I Roleplay and a minmax within constraints I set myself, and every Pylon spreadsheet I've seen puts MM's often at TWICE the dps than every other AT except Crabs (Yes, even demolishing Stalker Energy Melee on ST). What people often forget about Pylon DPS is that it's also a survivability check, e.g. you're taking hits off it too.

Seems like a skill issue on the team lead side, minmaxing this game at anything less than 4-star is negligible.

I don't see the no MM stipulation often but I have seen it and I always assumed it had more to do with the "clutter" of so many pets being off-putting for some. Mostly because MMs kick so much ass I just couldn't imagine their exclusion was performance based.

Seriously. 1. Let people play what they want. 2. More minions = more meat shields if you're a squishy. 3. Several MMs on a team (especially with Gang War) becomes such fun to watch. 4. Sometimes I think the people complaining about MMs are worried about being upstaged. I get that we're the "main character" for our character's universe, but the syndrome can get a bit sad.

I've always thought that a player refusing or requesting any specific archetype of teammate is a huge bright red flag.

Imagine, in this of all games, getting hung up on party composition... 🤦‍♀️

The only time I've had any complaints was on my warshade and using Shadow Slip (fold space for normies). The tank "had a word" and I moved forward so I wasn't stealing his nicely herded mobs. I was basically bulldozing everything at the time. "Who's using fold space? Stop it!!".......... "Oops, my bad" "Oh it's you, carry on!!" 🙂

A well slotted warshade is a wonder to behold!!

The funny thing about MM’s is that their strongest stat is single target DPS, and yet they’re more or less banned from the content where single target DPS matters the most in the game. So, yeah, there’s a little bit more to the MM issue than people just being ignorant of pylon times.

Heyo! Been playing on Excel for years. Sorry you've had a bad experience, not all of us are that way!

I run plenty of open farms, I also run plenty of "looking for 50+ hitters" farms. It all just depends on the mood for the day and what my goal is for farming. I wouldn't be discouraged by that, some people are very particular with their farms.. and that's okay.

As far as the teams needing to be 20+, 30+, etc. What if the team is struggling and can't afford to hire someone at a low level? It could be out of necessity and not out of "elitism" that they need players to be at a certain level. Most low-level builds cannot bring to the table what a 20+ build can in most instances, especially when the team is struggling.

That being said, give it some time! My Discord friends and I roll a lot of lowbies just for fun and we frequently do +3 or +4 Frostfire missions and invite anyone and everyone. If I have enough of my Discord folks on, it doesn't matter who is on the team, we can do most of the heavy lifting and everyone gets to participate in the madness and great XP at that level. Same with Posi through Numina TF. We've done TF Commander marathons and we will invite whomever sends a tell first and (in this specific case) meets the task force minimum level requirement.

You do get the occasional grumpster. That's definitely because Excelsior IS the most populated server, so it definitely attracts the "gotta go fast", "gotta be good" type of player. But.. in general, the player base is helpful, fair and charitable. I've even had someone donate me 50 mill once because they thought I was a new player, not knowing I had billions in my bank account. All because I didn't have any set bonuses on my newly power leveled character.

It's an ego thing for sure.

When you really crunch the game down to it's core it's a Diablo-esque game and one of the best 'screen wipe' abilities in COH is Fold Space, telling people to not use it is absolutely an ego thing of "I'm the tank and you're not letting ME live that fantasy, stop it!" even if the mobs don't even need tanking at all and the group kills the mobs significantly faster when they're balled up.
