Macro Creation help

How do you do that that thing where when you start typing in the chat window that you get the little grey bubble above your character's head with some witty message like "hey I'm typin' ovah heah!" that stays there long as you type until you hit enter?  Can that be done via macro?  And does anyone know if there's like a generalized library of macros (other than for MMs ha ha)?  I know all about the pages on the wiki, but that's not the same thing for someone without much of a programmer's mind.

 /macro afk afk "I'm typing over here"   

 

will create a button that will put the gray bubble over your head with that text.

But that's a macro button, not a keybind. 

I don't think you have to worry about turning it off though.  Experimentally, as soon as you walk forward or look around, it will turn off /afk

 

I would guess if you did a /bind to the enter key you could do an afk and then ... /beginchat?  I don't know the slash commands for chat. But I'm not really looking to experiment with those. Hopefully this at least gets you something and maybe someone more wise in the ways of binds can finish the job.

Yes, beginchat is the correct command

Try something like this: 

/bind numpadenter "afk hey I'm typin' ovah heah!$$startchat"

When you use the "enter" key on the keyboard numpad, it will start that up. The usual enter key will go into the chat bar silently as usual.

I got it to work thanks everyone!  Now more annoying questions, will it stay after I log out, turn off the computer?  Will it do  that now for every character I play or just this one I put it on?

It will persist, on that character, forever until you change it. If you save your binds at some point to the default, new characters will also get it. Old character won't get it unless you change it deliberately or reload a set of binds which include this onto them.
