Spines/Fire

Silk

Recommended Posts

I been helping lots on discord and the forums with tech issues and haven't had much time to actually play the game yet...lol  Hoping the servers get a bit more stable before I plunge in...

...that said I never got around to trying out this game before it was closed down so I am kind of a CoH virgin and I am not sure how to read/follow much about the builds.

Found this build and it looks interesting so have decided to give it a go but tbh I am little lost as I am not familiar with the layout/lingo etc

When I am at Miss Liberty how exactly do I follow this?

I know at creation I had to take "lunge" from the Spines pool and fireshield from the Fiery Aura pool.

At lvl 2 I took spine burst from the Spines pool

At lvl 3 I added two "green dots" to spine burst

At lvl 4 I took healing flames from Fiery Aura pool

At lvl 5 I added two green dots to Healing flames.

I think maybe I went wrong starting from lvl 3?  Can some one give a an easy run down or quick walkthrough for the first 10 level or so?  Just so I can catch on to what these builders are saying I need to do.

Thanks.

Your build is going to be an AoE god.

This was my Spines/Dark Scrapper way back in the day. He was an endurance hog but man could he slay.

These builders are more of an "end in mind" goal setting.  You probably don't want to try to follow any of them while you are leveling - especially as a newer player.  You can always respec later.  For now, there are so many prestige powerups available, getting to the high teens is a piece of cake, build doesn't matter too much.  Once you get there, the guides will make more sense.

Oh I know but I still would like to have an explanation on how to follow these builders/builds.

For example:

Level 4: Healing Flames

    (A) Panacea - Hea/Recharge

    (5) Numina's Convalesence - Heal/Recharge

    (5) Doctored Wounds - Heal/Recharge

I know this mean at lvl 4 I take Healing flames out of the Fiery Aura pool but  what does (A) mean?

I assume (5) means that at level 5 I need to take Numina's Convalesence - Heal/Recharge and Doctored Wounds - Heal/Recharge but how do I do that?

Where do I get these?

Are these "skills" you learn from the trainer?

Are these enhancement you need to buy from various other vendors or get as drops etc?

Does the fact that your background (at character creation) magic vs say mutation change anything? Does it affect these "skills" somehow?

A is the default slot that all powers come with.  The (5) represent the 2 slots you get at that level.  The enhancement in there is not one you can get until much higher level, so for now you fill it with anything.

Most of the enhancements are IO's, which have set bonuses.  You won't have these at first, and they really aren't worth worrying about until the 20's at the earliest.

Most of these builds look significantly different while leveling, and even at 50 they look different unless you have ridiculous funds.  In other words, a great build that costs 10 billion influence looks different from a very solid build that only uses 100 million.

I wouldn't bother following the build you posted. As mentioned, that's a late game build and won't be as fun to play while you're leveling. Not only are IO sets something you won't bother with until later, but you'll be hard pressed to even find all the sets in that build anytime too soon, since the supply side of the market is going to be scarce with the servers being so fresh.

I would recommend not picking up Hasten until after you pick up Consume. Hasten has an endurance crash when it expires and in the early levels, Endurance management is a rougher. I would consider at least one more attack power by in the first 10 levels.

Since you're this new to the game, I'd recommend picking up all primary and secondary powers you can (grab a travel power from the P2W vendor in Atlas, then pick up one from the Pool Power options in your teens) and get a good feel for them. There's way too much to learn in this game to try and have a "perfect build" right out the gate. My first time through I made a character I knew nothing about, learned how the powers worked in play, and after seeing how they played out started to learn all the mechanics around them. Learning about resistance/defense caps and bonuses and all of that will be overwhelming. Better to go in with no expectations and think your powerful, and then keep getting more powerful as you learn.

Thanks that exactly what I wanted to know!

I knew this was a twink build and wouldn't be possible to do for me right now but I like having a "to aspire to" build to look at when leveling and this post answers the things I was wanting to know about.

@Rylas thanks will keep what you posted in mind as I level.

Also found this nice little guide which is good for newbs like me.

One of the best things about CoH is that you can play how you want. There's so many options as you level up your character, that you don't have to stick to any specific build or play style. Build your own unique character as you level up, and cater it to your personal tastes and play style. As long as you're having fun playing as your character, that's all that matters really.

One of the other things which makes CoH so great is the community. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. If you ever need anything, there's always someone who'll be happy to help.

Alrighty played a little more got to lvl 19 noticed most of my enhancements, are red....might explain why I was sucking a little and why Veles kicked my arse.....lolz

Now like I said the build in the OP is more of an aspire to build so I am looking at a "leveling build".....I just want to get the powers in the order of the build in the OP but with different enhacements.

I am looking to get IO's I can craft myself and get easily, the one's available/craftable at the university/sgbase.

Mostly I want IO's cause I just want to sell the enhancements I get as drop and not have to be thinking about...oh darn they're red now and useless.

Btw using Pine's updated builder how do we set a level for IO's other than max or min level?  The Io's I have right now are lvl 15 not 10, I dunno how to change set it to lvl 15 in the builder, I'm only seeing an option for min or max level.

Right now I have:

I also have just been storing all my salvage and recipes that I do get.  I was wondering what I should do with the recipes?  I was thinking just store them but maybe I should sell them. I am unsure about their levels though and read something about the AH not caring about levels so someone could buy your lvl 10 recipe and it will become a lvl 50 for him or some such?

I am thinking of crafting a few more 20 IO's that I can and try and get stuff for lvl 25 IO's to fill up more slots.

I started a similar topic a long time ago on the old CoH boards, here is a link to it with a few builds from myself and other people:  http://web.archive.org/web/20120905082446/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=259614

This is for end game stuff and doesn't use some of the newer AT enhancements, but it's a decent reference.

Since I have learned to play the AH a little I was able to make some decent Inf and have this currently.  I am looking on some feedback on healing sets.

Most notably the old build I was using as a guide/example has this in healing flames:

Level 4: Healing Flames

    (A) Panacea - Heal/absorb/Recharge

    (5) Numina's Convalesence - Heal/absorb/Recharge

    (5) Doctored Wounds - Heal/absorb/Recharge

Now I can see his goal here was to increase his heal output each time he uses Healing flames and to shorten the recharge time as much as possible.  That said this particular combination (heal/rech) is in game anymore, at least from what I have been able to find out.

The closest I could get is heal/absorb/rech.

Is it still worth doing this do you think, keeping in mind this power will not likely have more than 3 slots to use?

I have to admit since I solo lots this still seems interesting to me, the reducing of the CD of healing flames over all.

All set IO's are attuned.

I can look at the build a little later, but as far as the heal/absorb are concerned, I'm pretty sure it's going to be one or the other when slotted. Some powers have an absorb component and that is when that would apply, but in a power like Healing Flames it would be the heal. I think that is right, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh so the heal/absorb is really a heal or absorb and not both at once then which would make a heal/absorb/rech really a heal/rech or absorb/rech?

That would explain some other question I was having...I was told in discord that heal/rech on those didn't exist anymore but what you say here make's a whole lot more sense to me now.

If that really how it works you would think paragon wiki or even in game it would mention it unless I missed it somewhere...lol

Ha lol made a quick 40 mil inf in like 30 mins tonight so went ahead about bought and stuck in attuned:

    Level 4: Healing Flames

        (A) Panacea - Heal/absorb/Recharge

        (5) Numina's Convalesence - Heal/absorb/Recharge

        (5) Doctored Wounds - Heal/absorb/Recharge

Now I am wondering, since all the set IO's i have are attuned what I could put instead of the HamiO's that can be attuned or is is still worth putting hamiO's even though they dont keep working when exemplared etc?

Right now I have simple resist IO, in there and would like to improve that to something better

Thanks for the replies @MunkiLord and jack_nomind

Did they change something? Back on Live, HOs worked when exemping: Optimal slotting for Siphon Life in DM/ was 3x Nucleolus and 3x Golgi and I don't recall issues exemplaring, though I stopped playing just before I22 dropped, so maybe I missed an update?

Oh do they?

I never played live so this all new to me, I assumed the HamiO's didn't work like attuned IO's since in the AH there isn't any attuned "non lvl" ones, they only have ones with specific levels.

Yeah, I haven't purchased any yet, as I just dinged 50 with my first toon on the new servers yesterday, but they should work just fine when exemplaring as far as I know.  :D
