That's a very narrow, shortsided way of looking at it. Obviously if you create a server like this many issue such as farm sitting will need to be addressed. I'm not going to write up a 30 page brakedoem of all the changes and adjustments that should be made or need to be made if you ware going forward with something like this.  

 

Clearly it would need to be though out, scrutinized, tested and adjusted as you go forward so that it actually make sense.

Honestly, I think you just like to argue in order to satisfy your owne ego and conveniently skip, omit and otherwise ignore other aspects of what I said that are actually feasible, are good idea and would provide another wat to play the game for many. Especially the vests that been here for years and could use a breth of fresh air.

 

Go play Path of Exile for couple of weeks and see how they implement their leagues and see that they are extremely popular amd no one is losing anything by playing them.

I would play hardcore if there was any amount of population though I don't expect much of the community would have interest. I expect a pre-incarnate or pre-IO server, no p2w, would have more draw than hardcore.

A few points people should keep in mind.

  • Homecoming is non-profit, cannot ever be profitable.  Therefore, what's popular or would draw more people, may or may not factor into the developer's decisions. They started Homecoming as a labor of love for a vision they had for the game, not necessarily to cater to the crowd.  That vision is still probably their overriding focus.
  • Because it's non-profit, they all have day jobs, as well as family and social obligations and wants, that also consume time. Changes to Homecoming are done in their free time, which they could be using to do things like play games that they like, or going to visit national parks, or play basketball, or any number of things that all of us enjoy doing in our downtime. I doubt they want to wake up, work, come home, work on homecoming nonstop until they go to bed, rinse and repeat.  So, minimally, BE PATIENT.

Now,  the Homecoming devs are big boys and girls. They may still choose to undertake a project like this, just because they find the idea interesting, even if it might take them a long time to produce it. Or they might not. But I do feel confident in saying if they do choose to take on work as outlined above?  They would not want to release it until they believed they had a genuine quality product, just out of programming pride. 

 

I don't think anyone is confused by the suggestion that has been put forth. We might individually like the idea, we might not. Maybe the devs will choose to act on it, maybe not. Perhaps we should just leave it at that.

Everything you've asked for you can do yourself with the game as is. You can play to your hearts content and then if you get defeated you can delete your character.

 

You posed a question, I responded. I'm truly sad that you didn't like my response because it failed to align with your desire but I am happy in the knowledge that my vests are truly veterans.

 

But just for the avoidance of doubt, I don't think your idea is worth implementing because it adds very little to the game and very few people would likely take it up.

You can kill most of the farmsitting by disabling teams for AE missions. No teams, no fire farms (or any other type of farm) full of sitters being PL'd; people would have to go back to doorsitting in regular missions, which would be a more complicated fix. I suppose that a very rough cut at addressing it would be to slap a relatively small radius on how far a character can be away from a defeat to get XP or drops from it, but I'm sure that this would cause as many problems as it would solve, and I'm not sure that it would work well enough to eliminate farming for a hardcore server (and would likely be a lot more effort than it's worth, at least in my judgement).

I already play Hardcore mode. I wait until everything's quiet, I ask my wife if she'll need me for anything for awhile, she says "no", I take that at face value and login. If that's not playing Hardcore, I don't know what is.
