Odd shield-like symbol on some costumes in initial tailor interface?

If you look at the screenshot below, you'll notice that the 5th costume from the left in the top row, and the 4th from the bottom row, have these weird shield-like symbols or icons on them.  I was wondering if anybody knew what those were or mean.  Thanks in advance!

Oh, bother.  That's frustrating to me, because I'd asked about that years ago, was given the answer, and now I cannot remember it, nor find the discussion.  I thought at first it was a costume with obsolete components, but I went to a character I have with such an issue, and there were no shield icons.

I believe you or someone nearby is running the manuevers power from leadership, and the buff graphics are showing up in the costume preview.

But only those 2 costumes, and perfectly centered on just the 2?  Neither is the active costume, either...

The symbol is definitely the "defence increased" symbol, but why it's there I can't say. It does show up on some of my characters too, and all I can guess it that there's a display error with the emanator.

I knew this looked familiar.  I vaguely remember this discussion coming up before as well.

Yeah, the obsolete or invalid parts notification is a Lock symbol rather than a shield...but in taking this screen shot I see that I have both the invalid and the shield on different costumes, neither of which are currently being worn.  I'd love to hear the explanation for this if it can be found.

From the 2 pictures above - the shield is in the same position on the top row, and the 2nd picture (from COH Radgen) doesn't have a costume in the same position on the bottom row.

May be coincidence...

Well, my last loading screen told me it's not a Nemesis plot so it can't be that.
