So this has been an ongoing, pervasive issue since February on, but it has, in the last patch, gotten so bad, I cannot log in without the game crashing within either seconds or minutes.

I posted on Discord for help, and folks have been incredibly helpful.

Basically, all hardware tested and functional.
No VPN.
Sent many, many crash logs about this.
Set all graphics settings to minimum.
Rolled graphics driver back to pre-february (I'm on a 4080 laptop edition of the NVIDIA card)
AMPLE ram - all ram tested
Uninstalled, reinstalled
Set to graphics to reset multiple times
Checked my connection (I have 800MB upload and download)

I need help. Whatever has happened, I can no longer play. I *can* boot up my older mac laptop, but I'd really prefer to keep one computer on for gaming.

Is there a way to get one of the GM's to look at my crash logs?

What operating system are you using?

Can you post the crash logs here?

Are you having issues with any other programs crashing?

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Is your account name Sayterra?

I see... 2 crash dumps submitted from that account recently, one from Aug 18, and one from Aug 19. They aren't entirely clear what the cause is, but it's crashing in something related to shadow map generation, so you might try setting the shadows to Minimum or Off in your graphics settings and see if that helps any.

There's one more but it's from way back in July; looks like a Trolls_Lair farm map. That one is different, it's something related to text handling; trying to look up a translation for something when drawing the teammates names in the team window. Is there anything odd about the names of people you normally team with? Or any kind of local mods or text overrides?

Yup, one account is Sayterra the other is Ravendown. Honestly, 95% of the time, the crash handler doesn't even come up so it's luck of the draw, but I absolutely sent ones as far back as March when I could.

Since I deleted the entirety of CoH and reinstalled, would the old dumps be gone then? I figure they would be. I have already attempted to turn shadows off or low. I still crash 😞

Basically I'm base game. I don't really do mods, I don't do text overrides. So I wouldnt know anything about that one. 😞

I appreciate the questions; however, I have literally answered this so many times now, I want to talk to a dev. I have been troubleshooting with folks on the Discord Channel for months now. Nothing else crashes. Just Homecoming.

Have you tried testing with FurMark? CoH uses OpenGL while most modern games use DirectX. It's possible you have a borked OpenGL install. FurMark is a free OpenGL stress tester, and should uncover an OpenGL issue if one exists. If it does crash I'd recommend a full clean install using DDU.

Another suggestion I've seen is to disable "threaded optimization" in the Nvidia control panel. It's a known bug in the Nvidia OpenGL driver.

From your post, there is no telling what information you have provided to others.

Well, Number Six is on the Council. Hopefully, they answered your questions. Even though you didn't respond to them in helpful manner. I'm not understanding why you would post your reply inside their quote.

Good luck.

Maybe because I hit quote and it immediately stuck my reply inside the quote. It's just bad UI/UX design from the forum creator (not Homecomings fault)?

Captain Fabulous: I've tested OpenGL but not with Furmark. I could give that a try.

So Shadows off or on low: still crashes
No Text Overrides: Still crashes

While I wonder about crashing due to other people's mods, I can guarantee a crash in my SG's base given time (ten seconds, ten minutes, it happens at some point). I'm going to go back to my old Sony QA days and do a percentage test, attempting to crash on entry to base ten times to see if I can at least get one crash handler log to go through.

I very much appreciate having the logs looked at though but it's not looking great. I've had a few other folks tell me they're having similar issues since last patch, but of course, not everyone is coming forward to the forums. So hopefully it'll get narrowed down to *something* useful...

Have you checked software like updated your video card drivers recently or checked to see if they got messed with? and you're defaulting to onboard graphics if you installed one yourself or had it done by someone? If you haven't updated the video card drivers could you to the most recent ones? I know that kind of thing has screwed with other game on the PC that I use. Also maybe check to see if you had any updates by anything like Microsoft or other software on the date it started happening? Best of luck to you.

Have you completely uninstalled the game, including the launcher? Cleaned your drive of any left over files, then rebooted? Then did you try downloading the most recent version of the Homecoming Launcher and install it?

take the game for a test run before you add anything to the game. Does it work?

you’ll want to copy your player data folders to somewhere safe first. If you don’t know what your player data folders are, look here https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Homecoming_Installation_Folder_Locations

* check for viruses
* uninstall other gaming related software
* close down all unnecessary processes running in Task Manager
* disable all overlays, including discord, nvidia, steam, and others.

but honestly, I only struggle with things like this for about a week before I wipe my drive clean, reinstall windows (not restore from backup), reinstall the game and all my other NESCESSARY apps.  I’ve been PC gaming since the 1990s. The most important things I’ve learned is that computers need to be wiped clean every 5 years or so, and only install games onto a dedicated gaming rig with no additional software. Keep the gaming rig ONLY for gaming. It’s a little more expensive but around 2006 I got tired of all the hassles and jumped over to Mac (it’s been bliss!). But a few years ago I built a dedicated gaming rig because friends wanted to play windows games. No problems since, but I’ve had to stop myself from installing windows apps. Keep it clean. LOL

My rig with these specs runs fine:

Asus Rog Strix B550F AM4 motherboard

AMD Ryzen 5800x3D CPU

Nvidia 4060 GPU

32 GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR4 ram

Samsung 900 pro SSDS

Windows 11 Pro

your rig sounds more powerful than mine, and yet mine is working fine. Something is mucking up the works.

there are thousands of things that could go wrong between OS, Hardware, and software. It’s often easier and faster to just start over with a clean slate.
