Steampunkette Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I'd be down with some account wide accolades. Not the ones we have, now, but things like "You have a 50 of every Hero/Villain/Epic Archetype!" accolades which give every character on your account a badge with a nifty title. Same thing with "You have 50 Magic Heroes!" and you get a badge that's like "Magician" or something similar. I think that'd be nifty. 1 1 1

There’s nothing particularly difficult about it. As for the power creep argument—the game is easy, whether they make a change like this or not. People that have a problem with this can play harder content or skip the accolades if they think it’s a big deal. If they're such a trivial matter, why don't you just skip them, since you seem to believe that they're not worth the effort to acquire unless the requirements for them are dumbed down to the point where you don't have to make any real effort to get them? 2
Snarky Posted September 22 Posted September 22 this could be good. or, this could be bad. there is certainly almost no way anything like this will hit Homecoming. or, ... it might. 1 1

I do skip them, generally speaking. And when I don’t, the “real effort” amounts to moving a character to locations that are memorized or marked on a map in order to get “exploration” badges. Or clicking on history plaques, the contents of which were first introduced in what, 2004? Moreover, the “don’t like it, don’t do it” argument can be applied to anything. Don’t like that a melee set underperforms? Don’t play it. Don’t like that certain ATs are less favored in hard content? Don’t play them. Don’t like that certain areas of the game are underpopulated (eg. redside)? Just don’t play there. It’s a recipe for stagnation that favors risk-averse players that are satisfied with what they have and don’t want change.

But handing out free accolades just because you don't want to go through the steps to earn them makes about as much sense as handing out free Shivans and Nukes because I don't want to PvP. 1 3 --- 64453 - This Was Your Life? - An AE arc that lets you relive your hero's greatest triumphs! Bionic_Flea Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Quote Account wide accolade badges While there have been many Quality of Life changes over the years that have reduced tedium, how much is too much? I assume that there is a limit or a break point. I suggest avoiding this slippery slope. However, I would support updating some of the Task Force Commander TFs (eg. Synapse and Citadel) and adding new missions that helps get the required defeat badges (a mission that had both Anti-Matter and Siege would be great!) 1 1

I’m not a fan of most account wide badges. Outside of Steampunkette’s idea, I would prefer that the content to earn the badge be engaging and accessible instead. So shorten Synapse, have a more accessible way to get all the mayhem missions, etc.

The whole point of Homecoming is that people loved the old game and wanted to play it again. The whole point of Homecoming is to bring back the game AND continue development. Which is why we have a suggestions forum and engage in these conversations. The shivans and nukes are a funny example. In a sense they are free, because they were content set within the context of an open PvP zone. The intent was to bring players into the zone, where they would fight each other in order to achieve the objectives and get the desired reward. If people can routinely go there and get the rewards without interacting with anyone from the opposite side, then the primary challenge in earning the reward has been skipped. And yet the sky did not fall. The game did not go shrieking down the slippery slope of ruin. 1

Actually . . . NCSoft did sunset the game not too long after they killed zone PvP. Coincidence? A test of editing Edited September 27 by Bionic_Flea 1

Maybe I'm a weirdo but I like that I have to earn them on each toon and learn the ins and outs of my toon to do so efficiently. I may discover that a badge or accolade is trivial to acquire on a Super Strength Brute but is much more difficult to acquire on a Mind Troller. I would never know that and I'd never have to develop a new strategy to be successful if the badge I got on the Brute counted for my other 120+ toons. If pressed I could probably get on board with account wide History badges though even then, that particular toon hasn't read those plaques so they would be ignorant of the lore contained within unless I RP that all my toons are a Borg Collective with a shared consciousness. If this came to fruition it wouldn't drive me out of the game but it would be somewhat diminished in my eyes. I agree. Some players are proud of their badge counts. If anything, I would suggest breaking Accolade percentages in 1/2 & allow players to earn both accolades to get 10% as the bonus, e.g., High Pain Threshold Badge (+5% Max Health) & Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member Badge (+5% Max Health) - or maybe cut them to 45% (+4.5% Max Health) introduce a line of Homecoming Accolades for earning both to get back to the final 10%. I haven't tried in a few years - since they removed the level restrictions, but there was a cheat to get accolades easier & sooner by swapping between red & blue, e.g., I can get the Marshal Accolade by getting the Atlas Medialion and switching from blue to red. Granted I wouldn't have the associate Marshall badge till I was lvl45 to do the LRSF. (BTW: few run the LRSF because you don't need to complete the SF to get the associated accolade.) 1
