I am an Alt-oholic and  as such sometimes have a hard time finding certain hero when in the mood to play them. I keep trying to com up with good ways to sort them  that will make them easier to find even when the name isn't hitting me. Issue is everything I come up with means moving lost of Heroes around manually by hand and gets messed up anytime I make a new character and she advances past others i created before her, or when I delete a character I decided I didn't want after all the create new one that fills the gap. No having them organized makes certain things difficult like finding a particular hero i wanna play, or verifying if I have already made a hero of particular Archetype + power set combination resulting in repeats.

So a sorting feature on the character select screen would be nice here is what I am thinking:

Graphically you could just take the button for server transfer and flip the buttons to be up and down or use the graphic from the old VIP rewards button, it just avoids needing an artis to make a new one if you don't have one.
Sorting options:

  • Name Ascending/ Descending
  • Level Ascending/ Descending
  • Archetype (would default to placing characters in Descending lvl order within the archetype)
  • Primary Power (Alphabet Descending)
  • Secondary Power

Something as basic as this even forsaking the last two would be so helpful. However A more complex version where you can select a Primary and secondary filter IE Primary Archetype Secondary Primary power then group them up in that way or perhaps a check box of all the things you want filtered with a system of hierarchy of in which order things are filtered. The other option being having organizing choices be Name, Level, and then a way to filter Archetype, and power sets which would grey out any hero not fitting those parameters. Then if you wanna be fancy give us the option to loc heroes in place so when we use the filters they are excluded and do not move, but that is honestly not necessary just fancy.

Edit disregard most of this I did not realize the current search function was so versitile

I'm down with more sort options for any and all aspects of the game so overall I'm on board.

However, the search function on the character select screen does most of what you're asking for. You can type Fire and all your fire based toons will show up, you can type tank and all you tanks will come up, you can type Stanley and all you toons named Stanley will come up, ect.

Speaking for myself, I like to organize my toons by AT and even if I only had 1 Defender, I would have a Defender page and no other AT would go on that page. Occasionally I do have to move a bunch of toons if I need a second or third page for my Controllers or something but that's rare enough to not really be an issue.

I feel... dumb, I thought it could only search by name... and sometimes I don't recall names. it still could use something that will reorder things by Level  and maybe names Alphabetically as well as multiple filters at once

Oh don't feel too bad, the search is only top of mind for me because I posted a very similar suggestion a long time ago and was educated by some friendly forumites 🙂

If you're going to add sorting options, you should also add "Days Offline" as a sort condition, so you could see what characters you haven't played recently.

And the 'search by name' function doesn't just search from the start of the name; it searches for your input string anywhere in the name -- for example, I can put in 'shoi' to find my Rad/Rad Sentinel Hoshasenshoi.

Sorting options would be good. TBH, having multiple SGs I (when active) manage, I would group the Alts in that way, but left the naming sort loose. I also had them on different servers as I was playing with different people. IE: I have an SG that's basically just me with a whole group of Alts based on a specific theme (along with the SG they're grouped into). Mind you, every time I create an Alt, they ALSO go into both my Alt Spreadsheet (one per SG / grouping) and I take SS of them and place them into a folder for that same group on the computer. A bit over the top, but that helped me quickly recreate Alts from Live here. ^.^
