Everybody’s Base!!?!

So back on live I had a few huge bases. Mostly for my alts. Ran some busy SGs for a few months. Never kept them going. Bases in the new game, from what I can tell, follow the same pattern. A number of super large active groups using a base and then a bunch of personal bases

 

I suggest a generic SG that everyone can always use. Even if they are in a normal SG. This locker room SG would have all the regular amenities you normally cram into a base.  Teleporters to all zones, workbenches, vault storage etc

 

I propose a small map. Maybe half of the largest base currently available maybe even smaller like the smallest of the instance maps just a few rooms. Something that is very easy for a new user and versatile enough to be useful to a veteran.

 

The benefits?  Ease of use for players and fewer back End resources used by the game creating dozens of SH maps when most people just want to run through the same facilities

 

The cost?  Maybe an hour of a GMs time creating the base.  Because. Drum roll the base shows up at every base portal and everyone has access to it with no code.  Basically like a team members base

 

Simple solution proposed

I like the idea.  Would this be something can do, with Demo Recording and pin it at the tools section?

Someone builds a pretty plain tech base and a pretty plain arcane base, takes the recordings and posts them?  Maybe it doesn’t work that way, but it would happen a lot faster than the Dev’s could do it.

Nowhere near as easy to code as you think... especially if you are involving storage. You're wanting them to turn "Generic SG" into a zone.. for starters... zones have limits and are always open...taking up resources. Then you run into the problem of 50 people trying to access their vault..insp holder..enhancement trays all at once in a small area... talk about draining resources.

 

No you don't want that idea.. everyone then would have to.. wait for it.. open up their own instance of the Generic base.... causing more strain on the servers.

 

I see no problem that warrants the creation of this idea, but I do see the technical nightmare and server side issues such an implementation would cause.

... you can already do this.

 

Make an SG on one character and build your personal base. Set it to open with a code and memorize it. All your character's can use that base by inputting the code.

 

You can also /altinvite your own characters.

Or talk to peeps on your server about base access codes. Everlasting has it's own Yellow Pages of bad ass bases to RP in.

The absolute beauty of all of this is that there is no additional coding required.  I really like what Everlasting has done - so much so I believe I'll build a base on Torchbearer for public access.

99% of a bases usefulness is those teleporters.  Let us not over complicate things.  No extra coding needed. That exists.  Access to more than your Sg base already exists. Hard coding the name and access code into the base portal memory cannot be rocket science. I have not coded in thirty years and I bet I could figure it out in less than an hour with zero knowlege of the game code going in. This is not 1337 Haxxor stuff. Just putting up an existing base zone that everyone can access with really basic services

No enhancer storage or inspiration storage or any item that requires base permissions. This would be A base just big enough to hold the teleporting an organized fashion and a little workroom

Talking about this made me think of the Vault in Pocket D, so here's another thought: why not just also install all that TP stuff in Pocket D as well?  Why not let Pocket D be the "SG base for everyone" and be done with that?

I could get behind that... but then I hope you are ready for the....

 

Ugh it is so hard to get to pocket D... I need a power to just get there... (That power already exists, but people will whine it is soooo expensive LOL). They will also find a reason why getting the power via day job is just too much work.

 

If you haven't noticed - since HC launched there are a lot of whiners who want the game in absolute easy mode....

I think some of the challenge with Base Building was in the design...Originally it was meant to be an activity for a few people who are the leaders of large supergroups who were collecting lots and lots of prestige.  It was meant to be a very thoughtful and careful exercise in construction given the costs and energy requirements...

 

Now it's super and easy and free, but I was really hesitant to build my first base because I was still in the Live mindset...It was my kiddo who begged me to build one, and then he went and figured it out.  Now building bases is really a question of "Are you smarter than a 3rd grader" - because if the answer is yes, you can build a functional base in as little as 60 minutes and invite all your alts' to it....
