It Has Begun! Motherboard arrived. HyperRig-2021 is a go!
Hyperstrike replied to Hyperstrike's topic in PC Builders's Forum
Motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X570 Taichi Razer Edition/index.html Had a small scare this morning. My AV was whining about a reboot. So I did... And my machine took 10 minutes to boot...A system with an SSD OS disk.... Immediately started going into "Disaster Prep Mode" PSU mounted. Motherboard tray mounted. Waterblock assembled. AIO provisionally mounted in Pull configuration. (Waiting on mounting screws for the Push fans). And since the AIO is on a removable bracket, that should be an easy "to do". All SSDs mounted 12V and PSU power plugged in. USB3 headers in Temp vidcard in (salvaged from an old client machine) Need a cheap keyboard and a temporary monitor And mounting the waterblock is a 3 handed job Wiring sucks right now. But the long reboot kinda scared me. So I'm more concerned about getting the machine up and running provisionally than I am about "the sex-ay" All the rubber fan mounts should be in tonight. So case fans will be done. -
I'm not talking about the images.

I have some of the 3M tape too.

Yeah, I'm using an IKEA table. Have two of them, but didn't really have the room in my new area to use them both. My NEXT project, once my savings are rebuilt a bit, will be a sit-stand desk.

Nope. Have tons of the velcro straps. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TM2FJ94/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FLKNJ8S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Plus some new cable organizer. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BVYW7UY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just be aware of Heroforge's rules about IP ownership.

That's the thing. Not everyone agrees that something is broke here.

So, 17 years is now "fleeting". Good to know!

Defense or Resistance, which should I be chasing?

When you're at L50, swap out the generics in Lightform for 4 Resist/Recharge IOs from Unbreakable Guard, Gladiator's Armor, Aegis and Titanium Coating. Better Resist and Recharge numbers. Also, you've got SIX LoTG +GlobalRech. This is a No-No and a waste. You can have a max of FIVE of any type of boost. Note than standard set +7.5% Recharge boosts are a different type of boost than the LoTG. Tweaked the build to increase +Rech You also missed a bit of low-hanging fruit. Like powers that can take Universal Travel KB-Res and and the Slow-Resist. You also didn't take the +Defense IOs. Simply trying to balls it out as a giant slab of "Naught But Resist" will end badly. Here's a bit of tweakage in your setup.

Defense or Resistance, which should I be chasing?
Hyperstrike replied to Drop Zone's topic in Blaster
Generally, higher Defense is preferable in an either/or scenario. Blasters simply don't have the HP pool to make the mediocre Resist numbers they can build a viable mitigation strategy. IDEALLY, you want to get your Defenses as close to SoftCap as possible. And then, if you can, see about buffing your Resist numbers to "catch" anything that makes it through your Defense. And while you're juggling all that, give yourself Phenomenal Damage Output. All while standing on your head, walking, breathing, and chewing bubblegum while counting to Infinity by prime numbers only and passing gas to the tune of "Flight of the Bumblebee". -
Yes. That's what's keeping my head from exploding.

I'm one of those anal retentive people who starts bleeding from the eyes and ears at M3 (Multiple Monitor Mismatch).

The only reason I'm going with spinning rust is that a 20TB RAID 10 array in SSD is still just too cost prohibitive. 16TB in RAID 10 would run roughly $3600. The 20TB array is going to run 1/3rd that. And that's using enterprise-class drives.
-
Apparently they've begun the shady practice of auto-opting you in to their $10/month Accidental Damage plan. Instead of simply giving you a price up front. And they bury it near the bottom of the page.

The guy in the pic isn't me. He's some YouTube reviewer. Watched his vid years ago when I bought my first X9. And I think I'm probably going to be moving away from the table (eventually) to a BIG sit-stand desk. The problem is that the table setup encourages me to hunch and I'm starting to develop back pain.

This is the Fractal Define 7 XL. It shares a chassis with the Fractal Meshify 2 XL. Big old beast of a case. The bright blue is just an illustration of how many 3.5" drives it can hold.
-
Compared to some of the cases coming out, especially with the advent of "No spinning rust" systems, the Meshify2/Define 7 are big and roomy. The Meshify 2 XL and the Define 7 XL are positively monstrous. Then there's my Core X9. It's the size of a compact dishwasher. I could, quite literally, put 3600mm of radiator into the thing and still have space for everything else. And since I currently have TWO of the cases, I could go absolutely insane... 7200mm of rad? I'd probably have to run them in at least 2 loops, and possibly 3 so as not to burn out the pumps or slow the flow down to near uselessness.

Yeah...Basically, due to silicon shortage, missteps during early COVID planning and the insane, unstoppable, Galactus-like maw of cryptominers, high end video cards are nigh-unattainable (unless buying pre-built) and even 1-4 generation old cards are going for INSANE amounts of money due to scalping. Basically you have to scour the monitors on YT, take what you can get, find a deal like I did for my CPU (had to buy a bundle with a monitor) or get in on the BestBuy shuffle. Otherwise, make do with what you've got. My new box is getting my RTX2060 recycled into it. And it's having to stay air-cooled because Zotac fscks around with their motherboard layouts, so nobody supports waterblocks on their cards.
-
That's fine. You'll find my use of terminology a bit more stable than theirs.
-
I still stand by what I've said.

This is the X9. Too bad it's nigh-ungettable anymore. If you want a BIG case with lots of room for drives and other stuff, the Fractal Design Define 7 and Meshify are big beasts. Their XL-version big brothers are just redonkulous. This was going to be my backup choice if I couldn't land another of my original.
