If you have any suggestions for a new player, please let me know. Several games I've played had tricks or tips that I didnt find out until almost at the max level, and I'd like to avoid that this time. Last time I played City of Heroes, CoV wasnt out yet.
Thanks in advance.

When you are creating a character, pick your AT then whatever primary and secondary catch your eye. Before you get too involved in creating your costume, go over to the customization tab and see how the powers animate/look, to see if those are powers you'd like to stick with throughout that character's entire career. You can easily go back to the AT and powers tab to change things up, as you aren't yet locked into things. Try different color options and power combinations until you get a look or flow that you like. Also be aware of the various drop-down options you have under customization, such as the "No Redraw" option many weapon-based sets have. Going back to the powers tab, you can click the 'i' icon in the upper right to see the numeric details regarding those powers, if you want to calculate things a bit more. This window also tells you about the damage type, recharge rate, and other specifics of all the powers, (though it can be tough to make sense of the terms used). Not only do these steps give you a better idea of how your character will behave, but they can help you tailor your costume better, (such as how some traps powers have you appear to press some buttons on your left forearm), as well as what kind of color scheme you want to use.

Even though it really doesn't matter, I tend to "park" my characters kind of off to the side or otherwise out of the way, in whatever area I've decided to leave them in, (like not blocking doors or in the middle to a walkway, etc).

In the grand scheme of things, it shouldn't be too difficult to replace the little device with a crystal, a skull, some potion-looking thing, etc...

I am usually not one to ask for help when it comes to costume (I tend to work my way around costume-related issues quite easily), but I've been stuck on a particularly frustrating case and I really need some assistance!
I've got a Beam Rifle/Traps corruptor planned but I can't for the life of me find a suitable outfit (and name) for the guy. I basically want to make an engineer-type hero, resourceful and prepared. Inspirations range from the Engineer from TF2, Isaac from Dead Space, George Clooney's character from Tomorrowland and the Ghostbusters in general. Not sure if I want armor or spandex just yet, but I'm not looking for something too "high tech" (the guy's a tinkerer).
Hope I'm not asking too much, but I'll gladly take any help/ideas I can get!
Here's my attempt. I hope you like it!

Or, we should be able to use soul extraction on defeated enemy corpses...

I'd have to assume it would be a hybrid defense/melee attack set, but... eh.
You could replace the direct attacks in the MM primaries with some armor toggles...

I'm designing a bots/EA character build it have no idea where to go with the costume or even the name/concept. Maybe something along the lines of the chronosoldier above, or maybe something alien (I couldn't come up with a good floaty wisp alien like the ruularu ones). I may try and use some ideas from the radiation costume above. I couldn't make a to it that thematically for the MM pet look. All the robot pieces are too "retro". Speaking of retro, I haven't made a retro sci-fi costume yet and have not really explored that either. It could work.
So what am I asking for exactly? Any idea someone wants to offer, or a suggestion for a very alien look or a retro sci-fi. 1/2 my characters are male and 1/2 female, so that doesn't matter.
Here's what I came up with. It's a darker color scheme, but I think it's sufficiently "robotic" in nature...

Hey, I am working on a Archery/Atomic build and I am looking for help with the costume. The idea I had was a sentai (power rangers for those who aren't familiar with the word), with a brown and/or green color scheme.
Here's one I came up with. I decided to add a 3rd color in there, but please feel free to tailor it to your liking. Cheers!

My point is telling people to be more creative is an extremely ridiculous response. It's also very dismissive of others.
You forgot "in your opinion". They are perfectly valid points - telling someone not to rip off someone else's character/IP is legitimate feedback.

Ahh, good ol' forum busybody squawking about copyright protection on a stolen game. So dripping with irony I hope we don't drown.
This is, and has always been, about sad people flexing their innner hall monitor just to enjoy pissing people off.
You don't see the irony in your statement, do you?

That is not what you had said though. You said;
Don't put them in just shorts, for instance, (especially if said shorts happen to be purple).

I think we need to be cautious with making statements like this. I have seen large, green skinned characters with Super Strength designed to be more similar to Trolls or Orcs with names like "Hulking Behemoth".
And if they are different enough to pass examination by a dev, then you should be fine. Or, better yet, choose another word besides "hulking", just to be safe. Heck, not all depictions of trolls or orcs are green, anyway.

I stand by my statement. The response to tell people to be more creative is extremely ridiculous. It's not easy, and quite frankly not possible for everyone. Especially those times people really mean original when they say creative, being original isn't really a thing since we're all building off the ideas and works of those that came before. Yes, there will always be people trying to make a quick buck, doesn't change anything I said.
If you can't create a character different enough from an existing one to pass a cursory examination, then either hit random a few times until you find something acceptable to you, or don't create the character.

People telling others to simply be more creative are being extremely ridiculous. If it were that easy we wouldn't have a use for IP laws in the first place. It's much easier said than done.
Except that if you wanted to make money from an existing IP, creativity isn't your goal. Why try to market and develop a new character, if you can just churn out any number of guys in blue and red with logos on their chest, who are super strong and invulnerable? Telling someone creating a character for a game to be more creative with said characters is not the same as someone who is just out to make a buck by using someone else's idea/concept. There is no legitimate reason to, for instance, create a huge green-skinned super-strong character wearing just shorts, here in CoH, especially if it is named some variation of "hulk".

Maybe check if there's an option in the bios that you can toggle to force it to use the discrete GPU instead of the integrated one.

Anyone ever take a stab at making an updated version of Hero One's costume?
Here are 2 quick attempts by me. I couldn't quite get things to line up how I wanted, but I think they're a start...

Sleeps should apply a "vulnerable" debuff to the target. Such a debuff only persists for a very short period of time after they wake up, but imparts a massive damage resist debuff.

With horse, motorcycle, bicycle, jetcycle maybe? Please devs, make this a reality some day
Champions Online introduced vehicles, and I have to say, it was a flop, IMO. I'm not saying the CoH:HC devs couldn't do a better job, only that it's a very niche thign and would probably require way more work than it's worth.

I guess I meant something like taking Spear without Shield would give you thrusting attacks and a few swings or swipes borrowed from Staff but longer reach, while taking Spear and then Shield together would provide the overarm and underarm animations like Greek hoplites etc. I agree with your points about attack radius, tho.
As far as I understand, power sets don't work that way. Taking broad sword without a shield doesn't work differently than with it, for example. That is why I said it'd have to be 2 different power sets. Maybe they could make a "spear set" and a "polearm set" or something, (though staff is already pretty close to the latter).
-
It'd basically have to be 2 different power sets, whether it's wielded with 1 hand or 2. As for the idea in general - sure, why not. Personally, I think a single-hand version would be preferable, so it could be used with shields. I'd make it's "schtick" the longer range and/or maybe make all attacks a very narrow cone, so you can hit multiple foes that are lined up in a row...
-
The Arachnos pets are more like a controller's; They don't have an upgrade scheme like true MM pets do. You'd need to rework them quite a bit...
-
I, personally, would like to see something like an AT that uses blaster manipulation sets, (barring tactical arrow since it lacks attacks), paired with support sets. I'd also like to see a set that, perhaps, uses a set comprised of some melee attacks and armor powers + MM pets for the other set, (or perhaps replace the direct attacks in the MM sets with the armor powers, and have the other power set be melee ones).

Fastest ranged attack

The thing is, the various energy-based projectiles don't seem to reflect real-world physics. For instance, beam rifle's blasts are more like star wars blasters, which are definitely slower than light. The actual energy blast set is more like concussive blobs. It'd probably be too good if some attacks acted more like "hit scan" powers than what we have now, anyway...
