  1. So I was rewatching some of the CoH/V cinematics, and I noticed some, well, oddities.  For instance, in 1 trailer Lord Recluse is seemingly in command of a bunch of Freakshow.  Back Alley Brawler apparently uses energy melee?  Synapse gets thrown around a lot.  There's a hero that uses a sword and a pistol simultaneously.  There's the girl that can "melt" as a form of teleportation and can energize another hero as part of her attacks?  Oh, and lots of heroes and villains throw items as attacks.  I realize that many of these things were just put into the trailers to make them more exciting, but why weren't they ever implemented in-game?  Too difficult to code into the engine?  Was the game already in decline, thus preventing all the new stuff from being added?

  2. Zolgar, I see your point with not liking the Ninja Run animation.  I was just trying to keep things simple, but I suppose there's no reason why the powers couldn't use Beast Run or on of the other sprint powers, (sped up as needed), instead.

As for the line attack, you could just make it a very narrow cone, like 15 degrees or such.  It wouldn't be that far off from Leaping's "Spring Attack" power, so just tweak the damage, kd chance, and recharge to make it more in-line with that power.

  3. When I stopped playing CoH, the Ninja Run and Beast Run powers hadn't been added, nor was the Sorcery power pool, and the others still only had 4 powers each.  I was thinking, how about a more low-level power pool geared toward non-magical heroes?  Thus, I present you with "Street Smarts":

    1. Scavenged pistol - You fire off a shot from a simple pistol that you found "somewhere" - lethal damage, small chance for knockdown.

    2. Nimble - Toggle - basically functions like combat jumping, only it is a smaller buff to BOTH run speed and jump, with a small def buff and a resist to immobilize effects.  For simplicity's sake, this would just use the Ninja Run animation, only it'd be slower and not suppressed while in combat.

    3. Free running - basically an enhanceable version of Ninja Run with a higher jump height and faster run/jump speed.

    4. Molotov - You grab 1 or 2 molotov cocktails and throw it/them at your target, causing moderate fire damage, with a chance of creating a small burn patch at your target's feet.

    5. Bum rush - You charge your target and hit it and any others in a line, causing moderate smashing damage and potentially knocking them down.

    Your thoughts?

  4. I like this concept! It gives me a bit of an idea, too: why not a Pistol Assault powerset that uses a combination of this and street justice powers? Would be great for secret agent type characters and what not.

This is kind of the route I was  going with regard to the mastermind I mentioned in the OP - he's a "corrections officer" that is rehabilitating some small time crooks, (i.e. making them fight other criminals on his behalf, as hero work).  Still, once some of the powers were developed, they could easily be proliferated into other/new sets.

  5.

I see it as its own powerset for those ATs.  Instead of summoning an actual pet, what if it summoned pseudopets, (like a voltaic sentinel), but also applied a placate effect.

Normally, the T9 is some kind of super blast power with an AoE effect.  Could be something like shooting that magic spot that causes an explosion like always happens in the action movies?  I dunno...you have a better gift for this than I do.

    I still really like it

Well, imagine if you pulled out a radio/cell phone, 2 repelling lines dropped down out of nowhere, 2 spec ops guys zipped down, then unleashed a full auto burst on your target.  These soldiers could be untargetable, and simply run off when finished firing off their burst(s).  It'd basically be a "super attack", only visually different...

That would be something of a long activation time though wouldn't it?

This isn't a bad idea at all, but I was under the impression back in the day the reasoning they put so much gun-kata nonsense on pistols (which I do kinda like) was because otherwise it would have been sort of visually boring, "not dynamic" looking, which is how I found Auto Rifle the time I tried it.  I guess a few pistol spins before holstering or whatever might work for it.

Your point is taken.  I'm sure the animation or other factors could be tweaked, (like making it a location-based AoE that you can drop from afar, then going in to polish off any survivors while the mercs are attacking).  I don't necessarily see a downside to there being a no-nonsense powerset, however...

  7. I really like this biostem...Are you seeing this as an alternate set for Dual Pistols, that is that it's a Primary for Blasters/Corrupters and Secondary for Defenders?

And if so, it seems like the T9 power (summon pets) is out of alignment for those AT's, since none of them have a summon power...

  8. IMO -

3 Nova scaled to the same power level as the minions in other sets

2 Dwarf scaled the same and the lieutenants

1 Kheld Scrapper for the boss

With both upgrades give them the basic powers. IE 4 (not 5) blasts for the nova with appropriate to hit and damage scaling.

At char creation choose BP or 'Shade.

    Anyhow my thought on it......

Well, I felt that a dwarf would be cooler as the top-tier henchman.  I envisioned the novae as the T2's and that they'd be the bulk of your offensive damage.  The T1's would be sort of "imperfect" summonings, and would basically just be the wispy photon seekers, only without blowing themselves up.  I had originally thought to make the T3 pet a lightform using the melee attacks, but it just wouldn't look very good, IMO.

  9. What if we could summon Kheldians as a mastermind?  Here's a basic rundown for a Peacebringer-themed set:

    1. Gleaming Bolt

    2. Call forth Photon Drones - Basically a persistent version of photon seekers, except instead of detonating on impact, they start with gleaming bolt and gain gleaming blast with the first upgrade, and a single target version of pulsar on a long timer, with the 2nd upgrade.

    3. Glinting eye

    4. Enhanced illumination - 1st upgrade power

    5. Luminous Detonation

    6. Call forth Bright Novae - Starts with gleaming blast, then gets proton scatter (1st upgrade) and finally luminous detonation

    7. Glowing touch

    8. Summon White Dwarf - Starts with White Dwarf strike & sublimation, gains w.d. smite with the 1st upgrade and w.d. flare with the 2nd

    9. Luminous Maximum - 2nd upgrade power

  10. So I was playing my baby Thugs MM the other day, and it got me thinking that we need a pistol user who focuses more on careful, precise, and hard-hitting single pistol attacks, instead of the more trick/gimmicky attacks that dual pistols get.  The set would have 2 special traits - 1 is called "suppressed", (SUPP), which applies a minor movement speed debuff to the target.  The other is "armor piercing", (AP), which is a resistance debuff that can stack.  Here is a basic powerset for that sort of thing:

    1. Quick draw - basic attack dealing lethal damage with a small chance to apply suppressed and armor piercing.

    2. Steadied shot - a more damaging attack where you better stabilize your aim.  Deals more lethal damage and has a greater chance to apply "suppressed" and "armor piercing"

    3. Covering fire - A cone lethal attack, high chance to apply suppressed & lower chance for AP

    4. Ready position - a low damage attack that, if it hits, grants a self buff with bonuses to tohit, an end discount, and defense

    5. Double-tap - Heavy lethal damage, very high chance to apply AP, refreshes any stacks of AP, small chance to grant SUPP

    6. Blind-fire- You completely empty your entire magazine in the direction of your target.  Cone, minor lethal damage which always applies SUPP and refreshes any stacks of it on the target.  Has a small chance to apply a fear effect.

    7. Headhunter - Positioning yourself at maximum range, you take your time to carefully aim and take a shot - long range snipe, high chance to apply AP, low chance to apply SUPP.  Small chance to immobilize the target.

    8. Debilitating shot - A highly damaging shot that applies both AP and SUPP, but also has a moderate chance to immobilize or even hold the target.

    9. Call for backup - You use your contacts to call in 2 SWAT officers/soldiers/mercs to briefly provide you with some covering fire, which deals heavy damage in a cone and makes enemies turn their focus away from you and onto said reinforcements.

  11. "PSI" or some variation thereof, for "Pretty, Strong, and In-charge!"  Or how about good old "Waste Management" - "Here to clear the clogs of villainy from the pipes of justice!"  If you want to adopt a subtle reptilian theme/symbolism, how about "Pipe Snake".  Would "Plunge-Her" be too provocative?  Maybe "Roto-Root-Out-Evil" or something?

  12. I like the way Champions Online did "Teleport" (phase out, REALLY OMIGOSH FAST flight, then phase in - on a timer, so you were going to phase back in like it or not.  And when out-of-phase, most graphics were suppressed and "blurry" (read: relatively low-rez), as well as being largely monochrome, they could in fact let you go HELLA fast, without your video card chugging out on you.

Anyway, I liked that a lot better than CoX's implementation.  Especially since the "phase out" part was nearly instantaneous, making it a MUCH better "ohcrapI'mabouttodie" escape option.

I liked CO's teleport as a kind of "astral jump" power, but it never felt very teleporty to me. I prefer CoH's form of teleportation.

Agreed... CO's teleport is more about you phasing out, then moving freely in 3 dimensions, then popping back in.  You don't really disappear then reappear in another spot, at least not from your own perspective.  It would be cool if there was a "combat teleport" power in CoH, where the teleport range was much shorter, so was the end cost, but it applied a minor/brief disorient to nearby enemies and allowed you to reposition/change direction more easily.

  13. Oh! Here, lemme help ya out:

Call Swarm: Ranged, Light DoT (Lethal), Foe -Defense, -Speed

Maiming Slash: Melee, Moderate DMG (Lethal), Minor DoT (Lethal), Foe -Speed, +1 Blood Frenzy

Vicious Slash: Melee, High DMG (Lethal), Minor DoT (Lethal), Knockdown, +2 Blood Frenzy

Unkindness: Ranged (Cone), Moderate DoT (Lethal), Foe -Speed, -Defense, -Fly

    Spot Prey: Self +To Hit, +DMG, +Perception

Rending Flurry: PBAoE, Moderate DMG(Lethal), Minor DoT(Lethal), -Blood Frenzy

    Blood Craze: Self Heal, Res(Toxic)

Call Hawk: Ranged, High DMG (Lethal), Foe -To Hit, Knockdown, -Fly

Feral Charge: PBAoE, Superior DMG(Lethal), Minor DoT(Lethal), +3 Blood Frenzy, Self Teleport

    Thank you so much!  ^_^

  14. Grab a copy of Pine's

    it's all laid out there.

Problem is I'm on a computer where I can't install any software.  My laptop/desktop can access the game proper.  I was just looking for some insight while I couldn't get to those other machines.  From what I've read, it appears to be a mix of the beast mastery mastermind attacks and savage melee...

  15. Really think flight speed needs to be increased to bring it in line with other travel sets.  It's a complete waste to have to take 2 powers in the flight pool to access Afterburner in order to make flight travel time almost comparable to other travel powers.  Also a waste of slots - 3 slots in SJ is still a bit faster for me to get around vs. 6 slots for flight (3 fly, 3 afterburner).

I have an idea - let's drop flights maximum vertical height to that of whatever you can normally jump at, then we can increase it's horizontal speed...

  16. There are some other changes in the Sentinel powersets.  For instance, I recently rolled an ice/ninjitsu sentinel, and I noticed that I got freeze ray earlier than a blaster would, it does more damage, but it's a sleep now instead of a hold.  Ninjitsu has this power that increases your run speed, jump height, grants some small defense buff, and grants stealth, with a bonus to damage while you are stealthed.
