  1. Its like you start a new game and it has a bunch of classes. You keep wanting to try them all out, see what they can do. Eventually you played them all ... but that feeling of wanting to try new classes stays with people. Some more than others. You get prestige classes or special classes or combo classes or hybrid or kits .. anything to keep the treadmill going. But designing new classes that work inside a game that was designed without them? That's not as easy as it sounds. In COH we have ATs that still need fixed (Khelds, Sents) Powersets that still need fixed (EM, etc) and so on. By get over it, I didn't mean never should there be another AT ... but I did mean if you try to add them to keep people happy, you will never add enough, and most of them will be badly designed.
  2. Roddenberry also fought off the Crew of Cadets idea successfully ... Unfortunately that one came back too.
  3. While I advocate the self only visible approach .. I'm curious what these situations are? I've never once cared whether some one on my team was stealthed or not in City of Heroes. Age of Conan, sure, since it was much easier to die and maybe we were carefully sneaking to the top of a mountain or something .. but COH?
  4. Self only works imo A lot of us are getting too old to easily see mostly invisible people contrasted in a cartoon world. Id suggest /EA energy glow. .. or Scorpion shield. The effects do a decent job of highlighting your character.
  5. New ATs seem to appeal to some players sense of novelty. So they push them without any sense for how or even if they actually fit into the game. Those players should get over that shit.
  6. There are some story synopsis of the early season 4 episodes that had been outlined for Dark Matter. You can watch them on You Tube. Dark Matter had its moments. I thought it was entertaining.
  7. What was wrong with Firefly?
  8. There were 2. I have no idea what that weird spinoff called seasons 3 and 4 was.
  9. This is a good point. Often in COX you can Max-Max instead. For a given combo ..(usually) You can do builds that vastly increase your ST and AOE damage over SO builds and at the same time vastly increase your survivability over your SO levels.
  10. I don't think Speedster is really a thing when it comes to COX combat. Speedster is more how you move between combats. I rather enjoy perma hasten, it means your long recharge attacks are up much more often, while you can save slots on some powers since they don't need recharge IOs.
  11. I rather liked the idea of a diamond hard deconstruction of Trek along the Moh's scale Irony being the hardest episode of Trek was probably the first half of the second pilot
  12. Pick something you want your character to do. Push the build until you can do that as well as possible within a set of boundary conditions. For example I want my character to do max possible ST damage .. I will need to figure out the best attack chain for powers that character can achieve. Then I need to get enough recharge to run the chain, Id also want the optimal +dmg, or procs to go with it. Boundary conditions would be not giving up too much survival, or Making sure I have enough recovery. Etc.
  13. They probably thought they would be able to do more incarnate content ... but then .. click.
  14. I suppose I see the appeal of the shining beacon Federation. And the Orville probably follows that model as well within its own structure. Personally I have never seen that as particularly realistic and prefer the "The reasons for the end of the world were pretty much as you'd expect - purely human ones." FO2 School of thought. But I can see how fans of that aspect of Trek might feel a bit put off by the more Grimdark stuff that's seeped in over time.
  15. Over on Rocketpunk Manifesto occasionally there was some interest in what a hard science fiction deconstruction of Trek might look like. But others suggested it had been deconstructed at least thematically by Trek itself. I really never really thought it had, but perhaps that is what has been going on. By centimeters.
  16. I guess its the whole should science fiction show a brighter future, should it reflect a darker one and how should the mirror it holds up to our world reflect? My take is that Roddenbury wanted to show a sort of humanity ascendant thing where the Federation is a sort of Norman Rockwell of the 25th century. Using it to highlight the sorts of injustices of the 1960s as beneath us. Bright future, fairly clear mirror but a 2 dimensional one perhaps. Maybe that's an outgrowth of the era of sci fi it had its roots in. Depending on the eras since like cyber punk, post punk, dystopian hells, etc, I guess the intrepations since GR died have been all over the but gradually trending towards darkish future with a funhouse mirror.
  17. Parallels the increasing distrust in goverment (in the usa at least)
  18. /jranger
  19. Yeah. I was basically just thinking you'd need to stack every little bit of def and resist to help leverage the giant regen. Background stuff. With tankers getting better background stuff.
  20. Interesting. Maybe this should get re-proliferated. Increasing the all the time Regen set effectiveness. Would that make it too good though? Idk. Stuff like the MOG change was made as a bandaid for the set as a whole underperforming so there may be room to pare that back if needed.
  21. Tough, weave, combat jumping, maneuvers would all increase too though. Also tanker ATO adds a fair amount of resistance.
  22. EA is pretty good. But that's because it used to be really bad.
  23. Does the incarnate level shift help here?
  24. In that no one else can build the kind regen plus self healing a regen gets on SOs, but the regen might be able to build to softcap some defenses and get high s/l resist.
