Out of Memory Crash, Unable to Start CrashHandler.exe
VileTerror replied to VileTerror's topic in Open Beta Testing
I suffered a second crash to desktop, without the same black display issue, during the start of the Hamidon event. But also no sign of the CrashHandler at all. -
Out of Memory Crash, Unable to Start CrashHandler.exe
VileTerror posted a topic in Open Beta Testing
So, I was stress-testing my own system while setting up the Test Server. I was able to run four 32-bit and four 64-bit clients simultaneously (I did not log in to the game with all of them at the same time, mind you; just one of each), plus running the 32-bit Test Server Client. Things were running with minimal chop in background instances, and foreground client was running smoothly. When I attempted to zone from a Base to Kallisti Wharf, both my displays went completely black and after about 30 seconds restored themselves. My two Live Shard instances were still running, as well as the six clients that weren't logged in, but the Pineapple client had crashed "to desktop." A pop-up error message for "CrashHandler.exe" stated that it could not launch, and I thought I took a screenshot before hitting Ok, but it didn't take (probably due to memory overflow, or because I'm still not used to things that were changed for Windows 10). The error code was something like "0x000072a" or something like that. My browser windows displayed "out of memory" error screens, so that's where I got that particular deduction from. -

I side-switch at a drop of a hat too, when a player requests help with a particularly challenging mission or needs something run in Ouroboros. But I also generally switch my characters back to their "native" alignment afterward. For example, Algia Kruos will always get switched back to Hero after I help someone Redside who needs an Ice Tank for something or other. All my other characters switch back to Rogue or Villain, cause that's what most of them are.

Thanks very much for the new boards on the forums! I appreciate the inclusion of the new categories. Although, I would like to request that before they get too old and set in their ways, that we consider changing the Video Gaming Board to a General Gaming Board. Explicitly permit discussions of any form of gaming, whether it be video/computer, tabletop roleplaying/LARPing, cards, hide-n-go-seek, whatever. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/67-video-games/ And at the same time, perhaps consider the Comics Board being a General Media Board. After all, the first thread there ended up being about Star Trek movies and television series (and didn't even mention the Star Trek comics, yet).

The Real Challenge lies in Bosses only providing Minion-level Experience. Let's see how many people complete THAT Task Force.

I mean, I'm not entirely against Voyager. I would give it an - . . . no, wait . . . I'll give it a B+ for Effort. There were some decent episodes, and the Doctor became an absolute hoot by the later seasons (especially when he had Seven of Nine to play off of). But yeah . . . what's this "Enterprise" you speak of? Never heard of it! (I know, just . . . let's pretend, okay?)

I like a good narrative gaming experience. I'm the type who will play a "walking simulator" and not complain unless it's particularly poorly made or cliché. I also really prefer my tabletop gaming experiences to be narrative character studies, rather than murder-hobo-loot-grinds. Just the sort of gamer that I am. So, when I say that Disco Elysium scratches an itch like nothing else, I want you to know what I mean. This game OOZES with narrative goodness and personality. Like . . . it just gets everywhere, it oozes so much. My computer desk is all sti- er, um . . . anyway! The game was inspired by the likes of Planescape: Torment and tabletop roleplaying, and was developed by a small team from Estonia. The gameplay mechanics look familiar at first blush: You have a character. You can customize their stats, and doing so affects your starting skills. You can then choose a single Skill to be your speciality. But then the interesting thing happens: All of your Skills? They're aspects of your character's psyche. Not only that; they're each a character unto themselves! Yeah. It's like your adventuring party are all the different voices in your own head. They provide suggestions, make compelling arguments, sometimes force your hand if they get too powerful, and even argue with one another! It is so wonderful that I can scarcely do it justice! Please consider taking a look. There are quite a few reviews online already. If you do choose to grab a copy, I STRONGLY recommend going through GOG.com, since you'll be able to get the better version of the application package. Remember to support your indies! Games can be better than what the mainsteam publishers push out year after year. You just have to go out on a limb and help the little folks get their feet in the door.

Hey everyone! Did you hear about this really awesome game? Sure, it's a few years old . . . I mean, it's from another decade originally, but it totally stands up to the test of time! It has an extremely dedicated fanbase who have fought tooth-and-nail to keep it going for all this time. And while, for a long while, most folks had lost hope, early last year the unthinkably awesome happened and the game came back from the dead! . . . City of Heroes. I'm being slightly irreverently-reverent of this amazing game, that I am so thankful to have back. I figure it would just be the most appropriate game to start this new board off with. I mean, the entire rest of the forum is for City of Heroes, I know, but . . . I couldn't help myself. I promise my next post here will be about a different game.

That sounds like the approach that will be most appealing to me as a long time fan. I grew up on The Next Generation, and while not all of it stands up to the test of time very well (oh geez, the late '80s early '90s had some . . . oof, just . . . oof), but I have a profoundly soft spot in my heart for those characters, the actors who portray them, and the willingness (if not always effective) to frame intellectual problem-solving as an obtainable and worthy goal. Later in my life, though, rewatching everything on NetFlix, I also have to say that I am REALLY liking a lot more of Deep Space Nine now, compared to when I first saw it during its original running. And all of the problems I had with Voyager are more glaring, and it's harder to find the silver-lining when I already know how it all ends. Even still; solid sci-fi which had an immense impact on my development of a human being. I really look forward to someone trying to recapture the ethos of Next Gen, rather than follow in . . . J.J.'s footsteps . . .

Congratulations on your six years, Venophor! Glad to have you two back. Welcome Home!

Excellent work, Pizzicato! Contact me in-game with your Global, and you'll be rewarded for your hard work!

Thank you for making the level of details reported optional and for expressly stating your intentions. It goes a long way, so it's appreciated. but, uhhhh . . . was there always that bit about marketing? That seems new and doesn't really seem to fit in with the general thrust of Homecoming up to this point. I'm hoping it's just an artefact of wherever you got the template form for that privacy policy from.

There actually were leaderboards, back in the day. The Kisoks around Paragon City had such stats as All-Time/Weekly/Daily Defeats per Enemy Group. Been a long while . . . what's the ParagonWiki have to say about the good ol' kiosks of yesterdecade: https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Kiosk_(Slash_Command) ... wow. Is that really it? Maybe my Search-Fu is just weak. There's gotta be something else . . . Or not? Everything else I can find on the Wiki is just about the Gladiators and the Arena Kiosk. Did the info kiosks have a different name that I'm just not remembering?

Positron 1 bug. Doc Buzzsaw shows up as a level 15.
VileTerror replied to Sovera's topic in Bug Reports
Some enemies in the game simply can not spawn any lower than a specific level. Doc Buzzsaw has to be in that mission, but it hard-coded to spawn at 15 as their minimum level. Maybe an oversight, but yeah; not a bug. -
You're welcome. I have to say, though . . . once Henchpet Customization becomes a thing, a -LOT- of concepts can be served with minimal Power Sets. A Set which includes Archery and Swords, for example, could be Medieval Knights Lost in Time just as easily as a joint Task Force between Wyvern and Knives of Artemis, simply by granting the player the power to customize the appearance of those Henches.
-
Wyvern. That group with archery sets are Manticore's deniable assets.

Is the player known as "seebs" on the old forums here for HC?
VileTerror replied to RikOz's topic in Reconnect
There is definitely a Seebs. No idea if it's the same one. Try sending an offline Tell or in-game email to @Seebs -
Why did they turn off the winter Atlas Park decor?
VileTerror replied to InfamousBrad's topic in General Discussion
Ok, am I blind, or did no one bring up the point that it was apparently ONLY winter in -Atlas Park-, while still being the default season in every other zone? Frankly, I'm more comfortable now that Atlas Park is back to normal. It feels less out of place compared to the rest of the zones at this point. -
Let's just look at the factions in-game to determine what other Mastermind sets could be good: Something Freakshow'esque. Cyber-anarchists . . . one might even say Cyber-Punks! Something Outcasty. Elemental powers. Something monstrous like Arachnoids, Warwolves, Vampyr, etc. Could also work as mutants. Something Redcap'y. Little eye-stabbing murder-gnomes! Something Circle of Thorn'y. Various magi with various powers. And, of course, Carnies. But Clown Mastermind has been one of the most often requested Sets since CoV Beta.

Hide "First Appearance" date in description
VileTerror replied to Cervantes88's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
There was an idea in the past that Souvenirs could unlock clickable items in your Base. The 3D assets would be available regardless, but if you completed the Story Arc, then you could place a version of that 3D asset which other players could click on and read the Souvenir Text with your character's name in it. -

Sooooooo . . . permanently record the time and date of each Badge earnt, and have a toggle to switch the Badges tab from "Sort by Category" to "Sort by Date" instead? -
And for further clarity, I want to emphasize the sanctioned aspect of what I'm proposing. General, interpersonal roleplay does happen. All the time. And it's absolutely terrific! What I'm proposing is on a much grander scale, though. A more structured approach, with build up, climax, and pay off with in-game GMs GMing the events.
-
Thanks for the support, but point of clarity: Shard-wide events are just one idea. There are an assortment of other implementations which could have a much more personal impact for participating players. Closer in scale to the present costume contests. Shard-wide roleplay events, while absolutely a compelling and enticing idea, would be the "Cherries On Top" for most of my plans. The grand finales of extended storylines.
-
There has been some private discussion about this already, and I apologize to certain people who asked me to be patient . . . but I just can't take it any more. I want Roleplay Events. I want to participate in them. I want to organize them. I want to run them. I want them to receive the same level of importance, impact, and activity which the monthly costume contests get. I know that roleplay isn't for everyone. I know that styles of roleplay, ESPECIALLY in this game, can be wildly different and incompatible. I know that hosting such events can be a massive undertaking for the GM(s) (I've been GMing various tabletop roleplaying games for the past 15 years, having learnt a lot of hard lessons about scope, scale, and engagement). I know that there are a whole pack of other issues to contend with which could negatively impact events of this nature. I still want 'em, though. Please. Pretty please. I've drafted up an assortment of methodologies for implementation, but I'm having a hell of a time finding someone with authority on this server who actually wants to take a look at them. What will it take? What do I need to do? Who do I need to sit down with? Please. Let me know.
