Opinons on the funnest build to level the old fashion way
Zhym replied to I-Dirty's topic in General Discussion
My Dual Pistols/Martial Combat blaster was a hoot to level though nearly all the content (red, blue, then going back for gold in Oro). Getting Ki Push as a T1 power means you start with one of the most fun powers of the set: just try not saying, “Pull!” when you realize you can kick someone back and shoot them while they’re still in the air. The ability to swap ammo means you can choose knockback for crowd control when soloing in earlier levels, then opt for extra damage in teams or at higher levels without respeccing or reslotting. It’s just tons of fun. -
Well, great. Now I'm never going to not see this. Although it would explain why my Emp/Archery defender is so ineffective at doing any damage.

You have to have the mission, but you don't have to be the leader of the team that completes the mission. What I've done on multiple characters is run the Dark Astoria arc all the way through then talk to Dream Doctor again to get the "Complete the Dilemma Diabolique Trial" mission. Once you have that mission, running DD with any group will complete the mission and award the badge.
-
From the old forum post about the removal of the badges: "We really didn’t want the Mission Architect to be an environment that encourages farming for XP, Rewards or Badges." Well, that didn't quite work out the way they've hoped, although I guess one out of three isn't too bad.

If you want to try the Apple mouse again, there’s a setting to turn on right-clicking. For whatever reason, macOS turns that off by default. The setting should be in “System Preferences” > Mouse. The other thing with the Apple mouse is that you have to lift your index finger or the right-click won’t register. The Apple mouse isn’t the greatest for gaming, but it works okay for me for CoH, at least.

That would definitely be an improvement—and a "pick the same powers I have now" button in the respec process doesn't seem like it would be too hard to add—but then, I haven't seen the code.
-
I'm still hoping someday for the "move enhancement slots between powers without doing a full PITA respec" function. I know...it's going to be a bit of a wait.
-
Okay, so maybe I didn't max my MA/SR's defenses enough—silly me, I thought the softcap would be a reasonable target. And usually it is, until I go up against ruularu. Then...not so much, no.
-
Why no mention of Martial Arts? Not enough AoE, or too reliant on S/L damage? I have an MA/SR scrapper that was grand fun to level to 50 solo, though -def debuffs can take him down. I haven't played him that often lately, having since discovered the joys of the DP/MC blapper, but I still think MA/SR is a good set that doesn't require too much key-clicking other than the attacks.

Interesting. I've always done the opposite: most of my toons have Stealth; this is the first time I've taken Infiltration, and that toon already had Stealth. I can see how Infiltration is a lot easier on endurance than Athletic Run + Stealth, though: 0.46/s (easily reduced with enhancements) vs. 0.89/s (0.32/s +0.57/s, the largest part of which is unenhanceable).
-
Not for movement rates it doesn't. I just checked, and the movement rates with Infiltration + Combat Jumping are the same as for Infiltration alone. Defense bonuses stack, however, as per normal.

stuck on last mission (?) of Harvey Maylor's arc

This has happened to me too. I can't remember if it was carnies, but it was definitely a situation where I thought, "Hey, I can use this door mission to complete the hunt mission!" The hunt mission completed in-map; finished the map mission and...no door for the next mission following the hunt mission. So basically, don't let hunt missions complete in map missions. -
Hm. You got me curious, so I logged in to my character with Athletic Run (which AFAIK is Ninja Run without the potential lower back problems later in life), Stealth, and Infiltration to see how they stack. This is at level 43: Active Power(s) Running Jumping Max Jump None 21.86 38.94 13.14 Sprint 36.18 38.94 13.54 Athletic Run 41.90 58.55 40.94 Infiltration 43.91 60.51 43.72 Athletic Run + Infiltration 43.91 60.51 43.72 Athletic Run + Sprint 56.22 58.55 41.34 Infiltration + Sprint 58.23 60.51 44.12 Athletic Run + Infiltration + Sprint 58.23 60.51 44.12 So unenhanced Infiltration is slightly faster than Athletic Run, but it doesn't stack. It'd be great if it did, but I think the above sounds more like what the travel pool changes were supposed to do.

Power graphics that made you shelve a character
Zhym replied to Gentoo's topic in General Discussion
Any given Kinetic Melee power. Just pick one—it annoys me. Like playing a Mighty Morphin' Power Ranger. -
This is all interesting; thanks everyone. Do I gather correctly that people usually take Infiltration instead of Stealth, not in addition to it (unless they're trying to maximize LotG slots)? That might be part of my problem right there. (Although I am trying to maximize LotG slots, so maybe it's not a problem!)

Could someone please explain to me what the value of Infiltration is (or is supposed to be)? It seems like it has worse stealth than Stealth while granting the same run and jump boost as Athletic Run. Is there any benefit to it that you don't get from Stealth + Athletic Run, which can be toggled on at the same time? Or am I missing something? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or start an argument—I really don't see what role Infiltration is supposed to fill (other than as a LoTG mule). Thanks!

Thanks, @Doomguide2005, that's helpful. Perhaps purely by chance, I also have Preventive Medicine slotted into HA, mostly for the recharge boost. My other current slotting (at level 39) is: Heal Other: Harmonized Healing (6) Fortitude: Reactive Defense (6) Recovery Aura: Efficacy Adaptor (6) Regen Aura: Doctored Wounds (5) Absorb Pain: Numina (4) Adrenalin Boost: 3 recharge SOs, 1 heal SO Health: Numina +Regen/+Recovery, Miracle +Recovery, Heal IO Stamina: Perf. Shifter +End, 2 EndMod IOs I also have a LoTG +regen in combat jumping, and plan to put one in Maneuvers. I guess I slot +regen out of habit, but this toon has been an endurance hog for some reason, thus all the +recovery. The thing I've been waffling over is Adrenalin Boost: slot it with health? Endurance? What I really want out of that is fast recharge, because the health and regen boosts already seem pretty big that I don't feel I really need to boost them. But it would be nice if I could have it recharge as fast as possible—and good set bonuses would be a definite plus.

That is a pretty cynical view. Most people who lead raids do it to help the community run content where there is a desire but maybe not the experience to run it themselves. Not exactly selfish control freaks. Sure, people who do the same raid every day know what to do without instructions, but raids need to provide basic instructions for people who don’t do them all the time. It only takes one person who doesn’t know what to do to make it go south. Having been the newbie in a Hami raid once (well, a few times, really), I appreciate the leaders with the bind menus that tell us all what's going to happen and how to do it. Same with iTrials and MSR. It's easier to run one of those things by assuming that everyone's done it a hundred times and saying "Go. Hunt. Kill Praetorians/Rikti/Hami," but there are people (still, I'd wager) who haven't and who could use the guidance. And if you don't need the instructions, it's just pixels on the screen that will change colors soon enough anyway. What's the harm?

Here's a good post explaining enhancements for beginners: And here's one that gets more into IO Enhancements:

I almost never get rubber banded anymore, but when I do, it’s kind of nostalgic—there’s nothing else that quite replicates the classic Live experience. Seriously, though: rubber banding is the result of network lag. It’s your system realizing that where it thinks you are isn’t where the server thinks you are, and the server is always right. So the problem is always something network related, either on your LAN/WAN, with your ISP’s connection, or (very very rarely) something in between. It’s possible that something on the hosting network could cause it, but if so it would happen to everyone and probably cause lots of other problems, too.

I don't know if it's related, but I've been having trouble connecting to the login server.

I spitballed a name-auction system upthread (far enough upthread that it's too much work to go back and find it), and you know what? You're right. It's a horrible idea. There absolutely would be a run on creating characters just for name camping. It's be like the early days of the internet all over again. Maybe an auction system could be created that would make names more valuable after they've been used for a while (sort of like a trademark system, as opposed to patent or copyright), but you know what? It would be too much trouble and still probably wouldn't eliminate all the perverse incentives. So to the extent I'm at all responsible for people talking about a name-auction system: Sorry about that. It was a wacky idea, poorly thought-out, that should never ever be implemented.

Are you doing multi-mission arcs? The flashback system will offer to limitations on all story arcs, and claim that you've "completed" them on all arcs, but they will only be awarded for multi-mission arcs. "Arcs" that are just single missions for a badge will not award Ouroboros badges, even if the restrictions are in effect and you complete the mission successfully.

I find those "x/8" updates useful, personally, though I'd have a hard time explaining why, exactly. I'm otherwise in agreement with not spamming LFG. Maybe I'd refine the rule to, "Don't post in LFG more than every 30 seconds unless you're adding new information." You want to tell me that you're looking for the last member of the team five seconds after you picked up your penultimate member? Fine. Just don't spam "DFB Blue LFM" every five seconds, please.

I have a very basic question about how to slot the common health procs (e.g., Numina +Regen/+Recovery, Miracle +Recovery, Preventative Medicine +Absorb) on Empathy defenders. With my tanks/scrappers/blasters/etc., I usually just take the procs and put them in Health or another passive power so the procs are always active. But with an Emp, the sets have value when six-slotted. For example, when 6-slotted, Preventative Medicine gives +8.75% to recharge, Numina gives a +3.75% to ranged defense, and Power Transfer adds +7.5% to recharge. But if you slot those in an active power, the procs don't necessarily fire all the time, right? So do people typically six-slot these, or do they five-slot them and still put the procs in passive powers—or does it depend on the power? Thanks!
