  1. Absolutely nobody is playing City of Heroes because it's challenging. They might find it challenging, and -think- they're playing it because it's challenging, but that is pure dunning-kruger. (And actually supports the point I'm making, which is that any form of competitive PVP has no real place in COH, because the playerbase has been conditioned into being incredibly noncompetitive in PVE.)
  2. This is it in a nutshell. I used to PVP loads back on live. From RPVP events on Virtue, to 8v8 leagues on Freedom and the Test server. I love how fast paced and difficult PVP is. But I'm well aware that the majority of players are not like me. PVE in City of Heroes is not fast paced, nor is it difficult. For PVP to appeal to the majority of the playerbase, it needs to be really easy and really slow paced. It needs to be so straight-forward, that you can take any archetype, roll your face across the keyboard, and still win. Because that's what PVE is like. That said, the game is very old. The "community view" of PVP,, its role in the culture of City of Heroes, is unlikely to change. PVP will never be popular with the majority of players. And any changes now would hurt the very healthy and active PVP community. The best thing to do is to leave it alone, and liaise with the PVP community to make sure new PVE powers/tweaks don't upset PVP balance. The one thing on Homecoming that would get a few more people PVPing is to add in a contact that gives away PVP-only IOs for 0inf and somehow unlock PVP-exclusive T4 incarnates for free also. This would make PVP at 50 more accessible to everyone. I believe there were plans to do this at some point. So maybe this is still on the backburner.
  3. I just did the following on the test server on an item that was 0/0 selling/bids: Account A bids 2bil for item Account A lists item for 1inf Account B bids 2bil for item, cannot buy Account C lists item for 10inf Account C's item is sold to Account A for 2bil Account A's item is sold to Account B for 2bil The "lock" only applies on Account A's items. Other accounts are still free to sell the item for a lower price.
  4. Alternative idea: the game doesn't get changed, and you use Aid Self more carefully. Also consider slotting interrupt reduction enhancements.
  5. I think it's important that people poo-poo bad suggestions. CoH has a rich history of devs listening to people on forums when they shouldn't. Haha. If your idea is good, you shouldn't have to worry about feedback IMO.
  6. To be fair to Haijinx, this entire thread/subforum is just people RPing at being devs.
  7. SR is fine as it is. If you want to do anything, reduce the end cost of the toggles. That's a net positive change. Anything else would just be DevLARPing solutions to problems that don't exist.
  8. @pearbear No worries! And yeah, Decimation isn't really worth it IMO. You can throw it on a power if you're 5-slotting Decimation for the set bonuses, but that's the only time you'd use it IMO. Good thing is that you don't have to limit procs to one per power. You can put multiple ones in the same power! (I.e. you can put both Apocalypse and Gladiator's Javelin in the same power!) Here's how I'd suggest slotting: Aim - Gaussian's Proc, plus 1 recharge IO +5'd Charged Bolts - 5 slots of something for bonuses, 1 Gladiator's Javelin proc Lightning Bolts - All of Apocalypse set except for the Damage IO +5'd , 1 gladiator's javelin proc Ball Lightning - 5 slots of something for bonuses, 1 Positron's Blast proc Thunderous Blast - 5 slots of something for bonuses (usually Ragnarok), 1 Positron's Blast proc Zapp - Superior Blaster's Wrath Proc, Manticore Proc, Gladiator's Javellin Proc, Acc/Dam Hami O, 2x dam/range Hami O Note: Where I've said "5 slot of something for bonuses", one of those slots can be a proc. So for Ball Lightning (for example) you could slot 5 pieces of the "Bombardment" set, have one of those 5 slots be the Bombardment proc.
  9. It's not possible to slot it in Aim or Nukes. Decimation is a ST-only proc. Decimation has a PPM of 1; so the ST attack needs a base recharge of ~90s in order for it to reliably fire. Blasters don't have anything like this. The closest they have are the 32s recharge ST attacks from the villain patron pools (Soul Storm, Electric Shackles, Spirit Shark Jaws). They would be the best place to slot it, as it has a ~50% chance of firing. Macskull put together a good spreadsheet to help you figure out where to place procs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vd4ZZd1jfhOzdZZkGxC9O0NN5G0T1EdWPu_XRrV6s0U/edit
  10. Yeah it works with hover on as long as you're touching the ground. (I.e. press X until you can't go down any more.)
  11. Yeah, a lot of the pushback you guys are getting in this thread are from forum regulars with 1500+ posts who click on "recent activity" and just reply to every thread. Best to ignore them IMO. Most people who "play the forums" don't really play the game, let alone PVP.
  12. /bind backslash "e shocked" *open up gaming mouse macro options* *Create a toggle that autofires #* Press a button once at the start of the match to turn off animations. Insane. (Crey Pistol animation cancelling is legit, though. It's Shocked and Liedown that need fixing.)
  13. "We should add a plaque for this player because he is cool" =/= "We should add a plaque for this player because Ascendant got one" I was calling the latter disgusting, not the former. Don't obfuscate.
  14. No news yet. However, Homecoming now has a twitch channel. So, it's looking hopeful.
  15. Actually, Second-hand narcissism - treating one's own experiences as universal - is bad. Especially when requesting changes to the game to accommodate it. Ascendant was a mate of mine. We played a lot together and our characters had intertwining stories. So when they put an NPC of him in game after his passing, it was touching. The idea that someone would use his memorial as justification for why a current-year Hamidon raid leader should have a plaque is genuinely disgusting. The sheer cognitive dissonance of it...
  16. This is starting to feel cultish.
  17. The last contact in the tutorial, Coyote, was the character of "Kiyotee", an active member of the pre-release boards from all the way back in 2001. He died not long after the game came out.
  18. *played a videogame that he enjoyed endlessly. The game is the reward. Don't confuse it. Plus, the game has existed since 2004. There have been countless hamidon raid leaders, across multiple servers. None of them required plaques. I don't see why Everlasting and Veracor do? Am I missing something?
  19. Exactly. Farming has always been the legit way to play. You could even argue that, given I was a mentally vacuous 14 year old at the time, my posts were essentially AFK farming.
  20. You kids these days don't know how good you've got it. Back in the days of the 2001 pre-beta boards we didn't have a "game" to "play". We imagined everything and we were happy. Worst thing ever to happen to CoH was it existing. What I wouldn't do for the glory days of vaporware. You can't get bored and run out of content if you have to make it all up in your head. And grinding? Don't talk to me about grinding. Jack Emmert revealing beta invites would be based on forum activity? I had to post 10 times a day for six months, uphill both ways, in the snow. I earned my spot. I didn't "powerlevel" my way into the 2004 public beta like these 2004 pre-order n00bs. Game needs rebuilding, exactly the same, from the ground up. It's the only way we can give people the authentic CoH experience.

This is all I wanted. Thank you for finally reading between the lines. *And Infinitum and Xanatos lived happily ever after*

In the post where I revealed how I got the numbers, I specifically said the 2m barrier buff was what I used. At no point was I, or anyone else, talking about the 10 sec/30sec/60sec barrier buff. So you ranting about the 10 sec/30sec/60sec buffs being useless was at best not a counter to anything I said, and at worst completely irrelevant to the conversation. ("At worst" means that there is a case where it could be relevant, but only tangentially. For example, saying "Yeah the 2m barrier buff helps cap you, but that means you're not using the better buffs to help the team when they need it". It does not counter my point, but it widens the context of the discussion to make for a richer debate.) And yes, it's perfectly viable to go with lower resist, take Ageless, and still tank fine. But if you're happy playing an invuln tank at 82% resist...play an invuln brute. You'll do more damage. I'm glad you copied my forum PVP strategy of screenshotting posts. I hope you one day copy my P2W strategy, much like others in this thread are coming around to. I believe in you, Infinitum. Even if I've never seen you and @Hjarki in the same room. Haha, yeah I've had quite a lot of rage thrown my way in this thread. (My favorite was someone replying "Go back to remedial math class" right before realising they'd got the numbers wrong, and ninja-editing their post.) It doesn't bother me, I was raised in CoH. I've got a pretty thick skin. Pretty sure everyone else here does, too. After all, we're tanks.

Xanatos: I use barrier's perma 2m buff. Infinitron: IT'S NOT PERMA Xanatos: Yes it is. See. *provides proof.* Infinitron: I ALREADY KNOW THAT. O_o

Okay, gonna ignore the rest because we're going in circles. We know each other's position. Let's just leave the rest up to fate. But I wanted to touch on this again. Barrier provides four buffs: One lasts ten seconds. One lasts 30 seconds. One lasts a minute. One lasts two minutes. The two minute one provides ~6% resistance and 5% defence. You can perma this. Yeah that's what I was saying. Some people consider soloing what they, a player can do. Some people consider soloing what the build can do. I'd be hesitant to call either of these perspectives wrong. (Because who am I to say what does/does not count?) That said, I don't see the value of looking at builds in isolation, especially when they exist in a game where they coexist with all of these other things. Such as P2W buffs, insps, base buffs, etc. No-one, despite me asking a few times, has told me why looking at IO or IO+Incarnate builds in isolation is a good thing. Overall, I think the problem with MMORPGs is that powergamers tell casuals they're playing bad, and that casuals tell powergamers they aren't playing. Both sides are wrong.
