Yeah i recall the reason at the time being that it would look awful for characters who kick, like Martial Arts, because the legs would be coming out all over. NPCs like CoT and the Carnie Illusionists don't have legs or kicking powers to worry about, so the whole body model is the skirt. I'm curious, if a Martial Arts or Martial Assault toon has the temp costume on and activates a power, what does it look like?
I don't think I've ever seen a martial artist on Homecoming, so I don't know how widespread of an effect this would have, but, I remember the reason given at the time was that the (live) team wanted to have as professional a product out as possible.

I kind of like the early introduction to a mechanic that requires players to listen, read instructions, and pay attention, or, suffer low-stakes consequences for not doing so.

I didn't mean that to sound like a negative. Probably should've said what it was: mainly stock vills with a few customs. Sorry about that.
All good, i knew what you meant!

Snakes is correct. Specific to your example of Citadel, there are two versions of him available in AE.
The level 40-54 version of him is available to spawn as an Elite Boss:
But the level 53-53 version only spawns as a Hero (slash-Archvillain). This is the version from LRSF that is locked at 53.
You'll see these multiple versions with all the Phalanx and Arachnos signature characters.

I just played this (great arc, BTW), and had trouble with that too. That room with the platforms confuses the heck out of NPCs, I think.
Thanks for playing! I gave up on the Escort and switched it to Ally.
Spoiler comments:
SpoilerMr. Black doesn't betray you until after you do his bidding, and the mission completes after the portal is clicked so there's no way for me to force the player to confront him. The way the "betray" feature in the game is done makes it so the mission will complete whether you defeat the Betrayer or not, so it's up to the player whether or not they want to throw hands with Mr. Black. I could throw something in like "Player must leave through mission entrance door" so the player is forced to run back through and face him, but I try to make things as player-friendly as possible, so I settled on closing the mission text with "escaped" so we're covered whether you fought him or bailed. Sometimes we gotta do our best within the limits of the system.

A Contract in Black and Blood [ID64304] by @Jiro Ito
This SEP 2024 entry places you in the L45-54 range, in the Isles, where you’re asked by Mr. Black of Gadzul Oil to grab an old tome while offing the inimitable Mr. Bocor (last seen talking [and doing] some nasty ass shite in Port Oakes). Bocor played a major role in my own magic-themed arc, The Bleed (where I offer a perfectly logical explanation for him being such an asshole {a subject for another time, no?}).
We jump right in, raid the place, and get an offer to turn on our employer (um, sorry…nope…and anyway, we didn’t finish the job-part of the book — it’s missing). We then are sent after Virgil Tarikoss, and I’m like YEEEAH! -- I don’t like that bastard either! I find Virg hanging out in close proximity with a MM boss with his pets dropped. THAT was a scrum. Having gotten the book, Malta awaits, where I reprogram a Kronos Titan (which shows up as an Ally and starts zotzing people -- MY BUDDY!). I bring back a Soul-Trapped Gem (because my employers have evidently NEVER heard of Wentworth’s). Of course this gem needs a soul to, um, POWER it, so I get sent into the Zig (because every escaped criminal wants to go back to jail to show his progress out there in the real world). After procuring the necessary, er...COMPONENT, I’m asked to pretty-please help with a ritual (that I’m **pretty** sure is going to involve me having my heart devoured, or something of that ilk). Was I right? Well...I’ll just leave you to play it to see.
VERDICT: 5/5. Typically well-constructed, cleanly written. A great example of the quality of work this author always presents. There are a lot of objectives, but most of them are optional. So you can delve as far into the bigger story as you see fit. A bit of an “enemies tour,” with some non-standard map selections for at least 1 enemy group (a boon to those who hate caves). Clever bit with the Kronos Titan (Frieeeeeend...), as well as several cameos from the vill side to, er...engage with. All in all, a solidly constructed arc that allows you to choose your pacing. Well done. A Bloody-Black Seal of Shining Approval. PLAY IF: You’re a nasty vill looking to do legwork for fun and profit. OR: if you demand excellently composed missions, with a wide array of choice. A very well-done arc!
Thanks so much for playing, my friend! I'm a little embarrassed, as I am in the middle of doing a little rewriting on this one so some bits probably didn't make sense. I have a larger scheme in mind that I wanted to integrate this into, but it takes me so long to complete these.
The escort portion still does not work correctly 😞
The Kronos Titan part is my favorite thing I've ever done - that, and when running on /+8, the huge collections of low level citizens that I send flying into the stratosphere with Mighty Judgement.

I was amazed by how well done this was! I had no idea some of these things were even possible (whirlpool? escalator? hayride? how even??), and the actors were awesome. I had a great and terrifying time being chased by the doll in the attic lol. Kudos to all, I'm glad I was able to catch the last 30 minutes of the horror last night. 🤡👻🕷️🕸️💀

Yes. Thought I was contributing. Apparently not. I'll shuffle off now, let y'all figure it out. In my mind, having arcs meant to be stories, not farms, not RP specific to a character or sg, listed in searchable ways that are easy to understand, is preferable to a wall of choices that might or might not be what I want. So I suggested listing those out, separate from the chaff, so to speak, in a directory. Not like the base directory, where we'd like to list all the bases, but just a story directory.
I want a good story with good action in my alignment. My guess is that people who go to the AE go for one of four reasons: 1. to find enjoyable new stories. 2. To farm 3. To make or play a story specific to an RP, or 4. To make really high difficulty content. And no, you can make really high difficulty content without just "throwing in GMs". Pairing some of the right kinds of debuffers with your damage will wipe teams out if you don't use them sparingly, for instance. Of COURSE there are certain combinations that are much more lethal than others. Picture an enemy group with sappers and Super Stunners and dark -tohit. There is a reason the general game doesn't put all of the nasty into one group, but you can totally custom groups that do. Very much not like "meeting a new group" in game. As to your swipe at me for not wanting to spend all my limited play time searching through the database to see what was there in terms of story, sorry that was my experience. I have farmed, finding a farm is easy. Story and alignment doesn't matter. But to find a story I'd like to try takes time. I was trying to show what someone who isn't a regular AE creator does to try and find something to play, someone who is willing and looking for a story to try. If you don't understand where the process falls down, you can't begin to address the problems.
Guess I'm the odd duck (again) on actually playing characters from start to 50+, but I do that, and that is how the general game is set up. I can understand why people would create arcs for just the 50s, as you say, but I also know there are other people (and they are usually the story focused ones) that take their time and don't rush to 50. The people who only want to play 50s are usually not the ones focusing on the stories. Something to consider, for those willing to do so.
Tapping out.
I really appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback and point of view Dacy

I wouldn't go that far myself, LOL! But I'm assuming a small team of GMs/Devs to play and assess the nominations is pretty much what is needed. After all, the creation work is already done. I don't know the inner mechanisms.
It looks like @GM Vayek, who used to run the Devs Choice stuff, has retired and not posted since 2022, and from what @Dacy said, the Community Rep role has been eliminated altogether. I think we'd have to come up with something ourselves to recognize arcs, either some kind of judge's panel, or rotating contests.

New NPC: Stock Broker
What company would you like to trade? Langston Corp.
Langston Corp is currently trading at $410 per share. Would you like to invest or short? Short.
How many shares would you like to short at $410 per share? 10,000.
Very good, you have spent $4,100,000 on 10,000 shares of Langston Corp. Your broker fee is 5% (influence sink).
Player runs off to complete Dr. Aeon's Strike Force, assassinating King Midas, pummeling Princess Zoe twice, scattering the employee base to the winds, and handing their most valuable technology over to Arachnos. Langston Corp's stock value plummets. Player returns to Stock Broker.
What company would you like to trade? Langston Corp.
Langston Corp is currently trading at $310 per share. Would you like to invest, short, or close? Close my current shares.
Closing your shares will return a $100 per share profit, minus 5% broker fees. Confirm you would like to close your shares? Confirm.
Player makes $950,000 profit.
*Note: "$" is used in place of influence
Alternatively, you could do missions for the various Gold Bricker contacts to drive up their stock value. Doing standard contact missions would raise a company's stock value in small amounts, where doing a Task Force would have a larger impact on the company's value. IE, doing Tavish Bell's arc would raise Crey's stock value a little bit, but completing Manticore's task force and roughing up Countess Crey herself would have a much larger, negative impact on the value of their company. Any other business where you could work both for and against them would be good candidates for the Stock Exchange (Cage Consortium, Aeoncorp, Herocorps, etc). In a bit of indirect PvP, players would be working against each other to drive up and/or down the stock price of the companies they are invested in.
Fun fact: in real life, there is no limit to how much money one can lose when shorting a stock. See: 2006-08 housing market crash.

I can get behind any idea to drive a little visibility and recognition towards authors, but really, there just isn't that much interest I don't think. Maybe I am just salty because my Devs Choice arc only has 82 ratings, meanwhile a farm I created two years later on an alternate account that I don't publicize or bring others on at all still garnered 90 ratings.
It'd be cool if farms and stories were separated somehow, and then stories granted additional rewards like merits or aether; OR AE tickets earned by doing stories but not farms could be traded for merits, aether, recipes, etc.

For me, it's all tied to what we know about them in the game. As others have said, we don't know much about them from the in-game task forces and other hero side content. Because my brain works in a certain way, I keep wanting the Freedom Phalanx and their tasks to be organized differently, and more personal to them. That, and the drawn-out, defeat-all, time consuming design strategy of the early task forces gives me anxiety of the mere mention of their name...Citadel? Endless defeat-alls in Council caves? Shudder...
Synapse - this dude's entire torturous existence is thanks to Crey, but his task force has you chasing down the Clockwork King?
Blue Steel - this guy should have the Clockwork King task force, and there's so much opportunity to make it personal to him, and explore his heroics and less-than-heroic actions, and really take a this story to a meaningful place. Do we ultimately place Blue Steel under arrest, along with CWK?
Penny - the newest task force with the best design, and the one for whom I have the least animosity, strangely! She would be another good option for the Clockwork King task force as well though, but it would need to be rewritten as something that was more personal to her and explored their connection. Has that been covered enough by the Faultline arcs and Lady Grey TF? Maybe! Maybe she figures into Blue Steel's CWK task force! Give me all the lore.
Positron - also has a backstory with Crey, lost control of his powers in the Rikti war, but his task force in any form is all low-level enemies. The reworked task forces are a massive improvement on the old design though.
Citadel - also has history with Crey and the Rikti. This is my least favorite TF. He was Bastion, now he's Citadel? Can we play out that story, instead of 20 kill-alls inside Council Caves?
Manticore - "Keep it together, Shalice!" The guy who actually does give out the Crey task force, but has his personal history is all the 5th Column. As least Twin Shot has us interacting with him more so we can get to know him on some level.
Numina - the magical Midnighter Princess sends us off to fight Crey, Nemesis, Freakshow, Devoured Earth, every tech-powered and science-experiment-gone-awry enemy in the level range, but nothing magical?
Back Alley Brawler - justice for BABS! Why not swap him out for the sole Atlas Park trainer, now that Ms. Liberty gives out her TF (which is great, and personal to her with her relationship to Recluse). Or give BABS a Superdine task force. Or a retake-Galaxy-City task force. Or something. He may be my favorite of the Freedom Phalanx-slash-Regulator-who-always-appears-with-the-Freedom-Phalanx-inconsistent-lore-alert, because we know so much about his history. Bro just needs something to do besides stand in a corner of Atlas Park.
Overall, I think the villain-side missions give us way better insight into the Freedom Phalanx than we get from their own missions. Dr Forrester teaches us more about Citadel than Citadel does, Tavish Bell gives us more to do with Synapse, Kuhr'Rekt has us working more with Positron, etc etc. Obviously the mission design philosophy that gave us the first task forces changed over time, and the villains-side patron arcs that came after are wonderful deep dives into the big-named villains' strengths, weaknesses and motivations. Who Will Die is a nice step in the right direction. More like that please. I just don't know if it will ever be enough to overcome my hate of Citadel's TF. Seriously.

Alts With Same Powerset
in General Discussion
Posted
I didn't realize I had two water/poison corrupters until the second was lvl 50 with incarnates. It was three years apart, and the character concepts were very funny to me, but I don't even like the powerset combo that much. Yup, that's how I roll. 🤪
