These and the healing badges are the worst in the game.

They were explicitly put in by Jack Emmert as a middle finger to badge hunters. He wanted them to be basically impossible to earn via normal gameplay.  Sitting in a fire for a week straight because Statesman was grumpy one week back in 2004 is pretty abberant game design.

All those badges could use a review and a change from an exponential progression to a linear one that, say, topped out at 1,000,000 damage taken. A player might actually take a decent percentage of that 1,000,000 damage in normal gameplay.

I got the healing badge pretty easily by using Rebirth at Hami raids and MSRs.  And that was on a blaster.  The damage taken and mezzed badges are the ones I found to be silly, because you're shouldn't have much of either of those going on in your regular gameplay (tanks and damage taken maybe).  I had to farm both of those with the methods pointed out in the thread linked above.

  2. Seems like a fast way to generate a lot of generic content, but without any of the creativity, twists, or feelings a real human could come up with.  I guess if you were creating CoH from the ground up, this would be an easy way to populate it with missions, but I much prefer how wild it was to see Princess Zoe saying "Mgrgrgrgrgr," or the villainous pity written into Oh Wretched Man (which I just played through again, excellent).

Or all the tricks you guys throw into your AE arcs.  Maybe I'm old and cantankerous, but I prefer the writing and drawing be done by people hands.

The bottoms of Stone Portals are invisible and the object doesn't make any noise. Just FYI, you can just have a plain clickable door currently. Enable hidden markers to see the large clickable area for placement purposes.

Thanks for the tip, I was able to fumble about and make this work.  Still, it would be nice to just have doors and speedboats act as teleporters.

  5. More items that can be teleporter clickys:  doors, helicopters, boats, jets.  I know you can sort of hide a portal behind doors with only some of the magic swooshy visible, but sometimes I just want to take a door from one part of my base to the other, ya know?

  6. My mace/willpower is just okay and definitely not cut out for hard mode.  I love my shield/ice but struggle with him in four star stuff.  Rad/em is my go-to now; I used IO sets to get him up to 49% melee defense on top of all the many tools it already has in its box and he just shines on four stars, etc.  I have a bio/savage in the works and am excited to see how that plays in the endgame.

  7. The Live game was designed to create a lengthy grind that keeps people reupping their subscriptions.  I don't have the time for something like that now, so I appreciate the options HC offers to avoid the grind.  It's also not required, so you can still do the MMO slow-grind if you want to, and earn your IOs the hard way, etc.  This server is fun for me and I'm happy to have the chance to play here.

  8. I've never seen an ice farm, and if I had to guess, it wouldn't be very popular since ice has a secondary effect of slowing movement speed and recharge, which in turn would slow down your farming speed.  Ice blast and ice melee are also mostly combinations of cold/smashing and cold/lethal damage so you have to build protections to all of that, where fire and s/l farms are purely those forms of damage.

I remember writing up a hypothetical powerset like that, with a wrist-computer being the source of many of the powers. (Inspired by the old 1970s series Electra Woman and Dyna Girl)  That was many years ago and I've forgotten the powers, though.

    Yes please!

  10. I had many troubles with these back on Live, especially the first one, at low level and desperately needing a respec.  Lolz at this difficult mission with our noobishly gimped toons.  It's hard to imagine failing it these days with IO sets and Mids and all the other tools and knowledge we have, but hey maybe your team was running similarly gimped toons with SOs and just struggled.  If the game was too easy, it'd be boring!

  11. Usually when I lead a TF, I pick a time limit and "no deaths" challenge setting, for no reason other than my own idea of fun.

I'd like to suggest players earn additional rewards for selecting higher difficulty options on Task Forces, in accordance with the difficulty selected ("Enhancements have no effect" would be worth much more than "Enemies in missions are buffed" for example, and longer and more difficult TFs would offer more rewards).

Currently these items don't have a tangible reward in TFs, other than you can get a few of the Ouro badges if you do LRSF through the Ouro crystal.  This would give us some incentive to choose these options on TFs beyond adding more challenge for the sake of challenge.  A bonus to merits, aether, xp and inf would be a cool incentive to pick these options.

  12. I'm not sure how, but there is a method to track this, probably with a 3rd party tracker.  I was once assigned to be the "rock teleporter" in a Hami raid, and a player new to the raid and server was tracking league damage and calling me out as not participating because my damage was at zero.  Minor drama ensued while the league leaders explained my role and this new player argued, and back and forth.

However, lots of other multiplayer games have an end-of-mission scorecard and I've only ever looked at those as a "cool, I did well this round" or "hmm I should pick it up."  You know, personal growth and all.  There's definitely potential for griefing though, and I'm not sure why a volunteer staff would even start down that road.

FYI, the max mob size is 17, so you'd probably want 18+ critters to make sure you don't get duplicates. For instance, The "Comic Con" farm maps have nearly a HUNDRED different characters to make sure there's no duplication within the mobs!

I don't know if this is helpful information, but if you have a large map, you'll have a chance to see a lot of them, just like the Comic Con farms.

I think there's no question crowded servers are more fun.

I have a difference of opinion here.  The information is out there on what the different servers do well, so players who prefer a certain server are there because it serves their needs.  "More crowded" isn't appealing to everyone.
