This build is amazing, I tweaked a few things just for some added accuracy vs phalanx fighting on cimerorans but it's really great. I did not expect it to be able to tank just crazy amounts of stuff at +4 at a time. super cool. I wanted to ask though, cause I'm not entirely sure, and this keeps happening, does defense on SR go up as your health lowers? or does DDR go up when your health lowers? Very consistently, there will be times where I'm tanking massive groups of stuff with like...maybe 3-5% HP left, but it won't kill me. Very rarely will the character just straight up die. What's the deal with that. I know scaling damage resist happens but I thought that was strictly the amount of damage you take, not the rate at which you're getting hit. Is this an SR only thing? just curious

Yea I couldn't agree more with this post. If you want to go medium/decent/respectable damage but high DDR where you take your time widdling things down at a reasonable rate, you're gonna need the DDR to do that when faced with +4 cimerorans and the like. (or you could just go shield on tanker with pretty good damage+KD+DDR) But the above post illustrates how you can still just go full damage titan/bio on a scrapper, pop barrier and paralytic+momentum and just obliterate 2 or 3 cimeroran spawns at +4 before they really have a chance to do anything substantial. Maybe you'll have to jump away from defense debuffs once, but again, the offense is so large that it's what saves you with some bio-heals and management+barrier, not the DDR (that bio doesnt have any of, as far as im aware). it's all about how you approach whatever it is you're trying to do

thanks for the info yall. i was just playing a ill/marine controller, might look into /rad or /cold at some point. but I do love illusion dominator just cause it's fun.
-
i really like illusion but i'm new to dominator. I've been able to solo normal enemy groups in iTFs at +4x8 but can illusion actually handle the AVs? the reason I'm asking is because i noticed it said illusion damage is similar to spectral wounds where it heals if the target stays alive too long, clearly AVs stay alive a while. is that not that big of a deal or is there some way to negate that? i was gonna go longbow for lore and that should speed things up a bit but i generally don't know enough about dominator or illusion to know if this will work or if it just wont at all. thanks
-
Yea i'd love to get a look at it when you get a chance, sounds dope. ive been trying to make an SR build but referencing yalls builds will probably help. i'll throw em together in the beta server later
-
can I get an example of this build if you have one? I've been struggling to make an SR build that I like and I'd like to see it built properly

i'd definitely say that stone has done better for me than WP has on scrapper. it's got alot of really good stuff going for it, besides always having to look stone-y even on minimal effects. but i just want to vouch for bio here. ddr on scrapper can be misleading at +4 on cimerorans, it may help a little bit but you still are going to get cascaded into hell, because you aren't a tanker. alot of people choose bio even without ddr because of the versatility, the heals, and the added damage. at +4 x8 on big groups of nasty stuff that can def debuff you, jousting with bio heals/damage can be way more effective than expecting ddr on scrapper to save you, cause it often wont and will just act like it doesn't exist. it's not going to be like a shield tanker than can hurl itself into 3-4 +4x8 cimeroran spawns and solo the entire thing with aoe damage and some kd for mitigation. this is specifically talking about +4 ITFs solo scrapper, at least in my experience i wish scrapper/stone's heal was better but maybe that'd be a bit overtuned with how good /stone is right now. it's definitely a great secondary for sure, but it is hard to argue against bio for me. The only real downside of bio i can see is just learning it in general is more complicated. it's definitely not a 'set your toggles and zone out' secondary edit: i've been trying out a cracked SR scrapper build that can kinda do it.. but the struggle is of course that you're slotting so much hp and def that the acc and damage is lacking. no assault hybrid, no ageless core, etc. it tanks brilliantly though sometimes it just randomly dies to like 4 enemies. but such is SR

I am practicing with this build and it seems good but the first issue was it had a very difficult time hitting anything through phalanx fighting (like 20+ hits in a row not hitting) so I took out melt armor for tactics+hami origin in it and it seems to have helped alot. But one thing I wanted to ask was, resistance is only how much damage you take, right? Or is that incorrect. I thought defense was the rate that you actually get hit, and resistance is the amount of damage you take? is that not true though? Just to experiment for my own tinkering, I switched from cardiac core to musculature radial, and I got hit way way more. So I think i'm incorrect...or that's just luck. Does higher res affect your hit rate? or maybe i'm just going crazy. Im sorry for the elementary questions, I only started playing last year. I appreciate the help! I am still practicing with the build and getting used to it, it works great! The only problem is trying to figure out more damage. taking down a Praefectus Castrorum for instance takes like...maybe 40 seconds or so. it can get lengthy. But this may be to be expected, it's difficult to balance everything. Might be able to swing assault thanks for the help!
-
This is so awesome thank you so much for the detailed breakdown. i'm still learning and I love tanks, i'm gonna dive into this, thanks so much! I was curious about SR and have not tried it yet and maybe that's what i'm looking for, I very much appreciate the build!

I'm trying to make a build for katana that can solo +4/x8 ITF no deaths/temps/insps and I haven't really been able to come up with anything that I feel like is good enough to do the job. I've done this challenge using variations of builds with SD, but I can't use a katana with that. I am quite new to other tanker primaries besides SD.. so I am asking for help cause i'm not quite sure what i'm doing. This is just me tinkering around in the beta server. My first pass was a variation on an invul/kat build I found, I was trying to eek out more damage.. but it still doesn't seem to be able to damage the AVs in a satisfactory way. It was about 25 minutes for getting stage 3 rommy to half health. that's way too long compared to other builds. My second try was dark/kat.. I had no idea what I was doing with that. It seemed to do ok but the defense failure is just too rough really. Anything over any remotely small groups and it just doesn't seem to work right. It can't really cast itself into large groups at all safely. sorry for the giant images. Any ideas? Should I be trying another primary ? I love katana and i'm trying to get it to work but for soloing +4 content, especially the ITF, i can't seem to sort out it's damage enough. Or like I said with dark, the defense failures happen with anything over small groups. Should I be trying SR, or any suggestions for these builds. I am a bit newer to the game, I'm just basing these off of several builds that have worked, but again i'm really new to anything on tanker that isn't shield. I just can't use kat on shield though. any help is appreciated, just trying to get a feel for it. edit: incarnates are musculature core, ageless core, reactive radial(whatever the t4 is called) and assault core. mighty judgement radial, no lores

Thanks so much i'll give this a try in the beta server later!

do you happen to have a build for this? never used a SR tanker before, wanted to get a look at one

Hey, I wanted to get your advice and help on something I'm trying to do, since we both are using variations on the Werner builds that work so well. Right now I'm trying to use a variation on my SD/MA build, which is very similar to your SD/EM build, and my one question is, do you use One with the Shield? regularly? Like is this ability absolutely essential to running the challenges you've ran before. In my no deaths/inps/+4/x8 ITF runs I have not used it once, though maybe I should've. I understand that one with the shield with ageless core is extremely powerful, since the crash basically doesn't exist if you just pop ageless with it after the 2 minute mark. But I'm trying to get SD/Battle Axe to work, normally the standard SD/MA build involves picking gloom and darkest night, with build up, then 4 damage powers using gloom in the rotation. This actually works well with my SD/War mace inparticular (I completed the same challenge with SD/Warmace as well) But with battle axe, the problem for soloing difficult stuff is, you don't *really* need gloom for damage, but having darkest night helps tremendously, because battle axe doesn't have any AOE knockdown (except shield bash every 20-22 seconds), where as MA and WM have constant kd in the rotation. Tldr, is one with the shield essential, how often have you used it, genuinely curious. Cause the easy solution to SD/battle axe is just not get one with the shield in favor of more crazy damage battle axe goodness, then use darkest night for general safety purposes because kd isn't gonna be happening except for single targets. (At least, this is my experience in the beta server vs cimerorans). But I feel like I need to pursue this idea because SD is so good, and battle axe really is quite a ton of damage. any thoughts? Also i am sorry for posting this without an example build, I'll try and put one together, i know it's annoying when people ask this stuff without examples.

Yea i'm gonna just give up playing inspirationless on blaster, it seems like the game just hard does not want you to do it anyway, given how the available powers work. Im just gonna load up the right ones and use them as needed. good call. What's 'only open ip' mean? thanks for the info

Hey I was trying out the beam rifle/temp/munitions build and I love it, very smart and fun to play, but I was wondering if there's a way to squeeze more status protection out of it.. still seems to get held / grounded /knocked back every so often. It's a really fun build though, I was just soloing with it in the beta server so it may not be totally meant to solo, haha. I just dont know how to squeeze more status protection out of it. thought about slotting tough/weave and trying res sets, or slotting body armor maybe instead of some of the holds but the hold enh's have mez protection in them anyway and i dont want to strain endurance too much

Can I get a good look at some great katana tanker builds? if anyone has them. I was interested in doing DB but if katana is where it's at, I'm more interested in that. I've done katana/bio so much on scrapper, and I love it, but there are certain things that it simply cannot survive. I love my tankers but I have only used SD and I cant use some of the more fun secondaries with it, so what's best for katana? should I just go invul?
-
What's the best way to get AVs to not just destroy you on blaster, at +4 soloing them, just stack defense as high as you can or is it kinda a lost cause with this AT? even ranged attacks seems tough
-
Well this is interesting, so you can slot bonfire to loop with itself, let me ask, is the % of kd going to happen the same for bonfire and for the ice patch? I'm not opposed to trying out fire/fire/fire again. I did try this out in the beta server and compared it to fire/ice pretty obsessively, and I concluded that as far as fire primary goes, I just preferred /ice for the easy kd. And because hot feet will randomly make enemies just run all around the map, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. And it also unreliably will make them just completely ignore hot feet as well and just swarm you, instead. the unpredictability of it, and the fact that they were susceptible to kd and me not having the ice patch, kinda made me think for my purposes it wasn't the best idea. but if bonfire has the same kd % as ice patch and can be slotted to loop itself i'm not opposed to giving it a go. I couldve sworn ive seen stuff just run through bonfire even when slotted and just ignore the kd when i felt like they shouldn't .. but that's not really enough evidence. im just genuinely curious. I'm open to fire/fire/fire just I felt like not having an ice patch for fire primary for my specific solo purposes was a bit silly, considering stuff will repeatedly fall over and over on a non-slotted ice patch for free, opening up the build to slot tons of other important things. Also for ice/fire/fire do you have an example build I might be able to load up and try? I'd love to get some time with the build if you have one around, sounds cool. The above ^ i really was just musing about fire primary, ice/fire/fire sounds dope and I'd love to give it a go
-
Yea, I really want to try all that. Honestly I have never given ice primary a shot on blaster that sounds cool. I guess I'm just a bit biased, since I've been testing builds on the beta server. for my purposes, which is I guess solo +4/x8 with a blaster, bonfire to me is much too slow. I still use it, and throw kb to kd in it, but the ice patch is really what has saved me because it's quite a bit faster and the recharge is faster. but I do still use bonfire, there's no reason not to use it. as for the holds, for my purposes on those settings, I have not had success at all with them. nothing seems to get held at length that's worth holding. Things that are held 10+ seconds are things that die in 2-3 hits on a proper build. Things that *need* to be held that long theoretically, like stuff that can kill you very easily, only get held for.. i dont know, maybe 2-3 seconds. it's hardly worth going into melee range to do it. Especially if they're susceptible to kd, which brings me back to the ice patch, and then not wasting time not trying to kill them But again, this is just my testing, and maybe it's just my playstyle. I'm only basing this off of testing this stuff on the beta server by myself. it was largely tested on various PI radios and an ITF in those settings, so maybe I should run other content. but I mean I'm always open minded about things, thank yall for the ideas. I do want to give ice/fire/fire a go sometime just to mix it up.
-
Yea this is actually what I'm finding out lol, this is kind of my strat for practicing ITF +4/x8 no temp/inspirations with my fire/ice.. you just utilize barrier and go full damage, also rain of fire giving you a bit of time as they run around cause of slow. I threw as much defense as I could in powers that allow it but it's quite a fun playstyle to try to just damage rush/joust/spacing. I might try this build out if im feeling fire/fire/fire again, but i like fire/ice just cause ice patch is really useful for soloing things that are susceptible to kd. Big tanky +4 warwolves that would 3-4 shot you as a blaster, you can easily solo cause it just keeps falling down.
-
Thanks for your help. I actually found this out as well, and decided to go SD/war mace/gloom+darkestnight which was able to clear ITF +4/x8/no temps inps deaths. It's a nice little variation on SD/MA, due to not having to depend on storm kick and having an extra cool cone kd with crowd control. I would say the original SD/MA build is probably more damage and just all around better just because it's faster but maybe WM is probably more on single target cause clobber just starts being nuts with assault and build up, etc. It's really probably very similar though. It put down stage 4 rommy much faster than I was used to. I had a question, do you have any tanker primaries that you'd recommend with soloing +4/x8 difficult stuff with, that isn't shield defense? I'd like to try out some of the secondaries for tanker that you can't use with SD, like tw, katana, etc. I've heard invul is good or people saying dark armor is great too
-
do you have an example build for dark armor for normal content you were using? just curious, I'd like to tinker with it
-
I have been having alot of fun with this SD/MA solo tanker build by the legendary Werner that I've been toying with making variations on it, all be it they are far less optimized and effective, but some variety can be fun just for messing around. but I made this exact same build, but with broadsword (instead of MA) in the beta server, thinking that it could work in a similar way, allbeit far less effective and optimized. Basically, you just are supposed to use Parry instead of Storm kick, for a similar, lesser defense boost within your attack chain. But what I've run into, and what i wanted to ask you guys about... this build cannot hit cimerorans to save it's life. This is essentially the BS portion of the attached build below, that is largely the same as the MA portion, I just didnt use gloom because I was testing which BS stuff I liked. But I was genuinely amazed at how like.. i dont know 10+ parries will miss in a row on clumped up cimerorans, other moves as well. Now, when I'm talking about this stuff, the attached build for me has let me beat +4/x8 ITFs no temps/inspirations. I'm very aware of how to fight hordes and hordes of cimerorans, and the rate at which you should expect to hit them even when clumped up with 20-30+ of them at a time. But is there something I'm missing about broadsword? like it literally seems like such a bizarrely low rate of attack when slotted the exact same way. I initially thought maybe it was cimerorans vs lethal damage? or maybe armor ability that protects against -DEF hits but my katana scrapper has no problem hitting them with an identical damage type, unless I'm mistaken. Any information on this would be fun, I'm just genuinely curious. Nothing is going to beat this SD/MA build for me, it's just a genuinely fun, strong and flexible build if you like playing solo (made by the legendary Werner), but I was trying to branch out for other builds just to try something new. Does anyone have any strong solo builds they would like to share? or any info regarding soloing tanker at higher levels, etc. Cheers, thanks for any replies SD MA tanker.mxd

this is awesome and I very much want to try this. I too am a huge fan of @Werner's masterful tanker builds. most recently I was able to +4/x8 ITF no temps/inspirations with a beastly shield defense/MA build he posted. Very fun, very fast build, and very smart the way it's put together. This is super cool, I'd love to give energy melee a try, I never have. Care to share the build or the general direction to go in? Well done!
