i you running windows 7/8 or the newest version of windows 10. check out under system info on windows 10 what build your using make sure your not using a older insider build on windows 10 it easy to get a beta copy of windows 10 if you click on insider tester. if your running windows 7/8 if you have a spare drive try installing a clean copy of windows 10. you dont need a oem code to use 10 as a test bed you just get a small warning that it not register. on the pc itself make sure there no sound on network card sharing the irq of the video card slot. on the video card slot make sure the video card in the right slot. if your using 3 party sound or network card make sure the onboard cards are turned off. on your install see if it an issue with windows and the game try starting the game in it iggest video setting 600x800 not windowed or full screen see if any of those lower video res work. also if your using the newest nvidia driver with a gpu that old there may be an issue with the newer driver and older cards. try using a nvidia drive cleaner and try one of the 900 ser driver see if it a driver issue.

on my coh playing i found out cheap usb keyboards and the game dont work. if you can try a non wireless keyboard or a good named brand one. if the keyboard a few years old it may be having issues with the game.

there two passwords to set up one for the boards and one for the game also in the lanchure make sure your using the right manifest to log onto the right servers.

try turning off your av scanner it may think coh is a virus and stopping the game.

Over the past few weeks i found the coxg and we have cake servers. I'm glad i did find them. the newer power sets on both coxg and we have cake are fun to play even though there a little ruff around the edges. on coxg shotgun power set is fun for tanks. made a shotgun/shield cop. on cake one of the new power sets is all whips for anyone that would want to make one. on coh code do what lynix did and have one main sorce code base for the game. as people like cake makes new power set on there server let them post the code in code base under power sets. if homecomming or another server wants to add that power set they can. right now coh and wow both have the same game killing issues. one the game uses a very old code and game engine. not friendly to add end game content. the content that there gamers get tiered of the same grind whe nthey want to make a new toon on wow or coh.

also update your anti virus it may because it old thinking the game a virus and locking or stopping the game. if your laptop newish see if there a power setting for the video or whole system. sometime you have to put these new laptop into performace mode and on ac power to fully use the gaming gpu. one thing with laptops is the video cards dont have there own video ram on most of the entry level units they share system ram. see the amount of ram that installed and check to see what used before you game. you may have to turn stuff off that running in the background or use cruical memory advisior online see if you can add more ram. if the laptop a few years old use a hard drisk tester check your drives smart health for warnings and use a mem test program make sure your ram is fine.

with avg you have to go into option and tell it that city of heroes.exe is a good file.

make sure the mb has the newest amd bios code. on the nvidia gpu make sure under power settings it set to max performance and one screen. also make sure you installed the newest chipset drivers for your amd mb. sometime the ones from ms may not be as good as newest from amd. on your 660gpu there is two issues. one it a directx 9x card and your running in under windows 0 that mostly written from directx 12. the last issue is with a 12 year old card is it may not support pci 3x speeds. at the time of that card the only pci 3x chipset was the x77 chipset from intel. yuour gpu can be fine for the game but if the pci bus is a bottle neck there only so much data the gpu can pass to the cpu and mb. that why vendors like amd now support pci 4x for the bandwith speed on the mb

if all of the pc your using are in the same house and networked you can just copy the coh folder to the other pc.

For the last few builds i noticed the game plays fine as long as i dont chat or switch from game to desktop. if i do i cant move or chat. the chat is real slow. using windows 0 fully updated and a new targust keyboard.

try turning off your av. if there still lag spikes try using google open dns server see if it a isp issue.

try using drive cleaner on your amd/nvidia gpu and then download the newest driver for your video card.
