If you want a challenge for a SG filled with people who feel the same way, level to 35 and lock your xp gain. There...if +4/x8 isn't good enough you can go looking for enemies up to 15 levels above you!
Better yet, lock yourself at 35 and team with other players in their teen levels. I I did this this morning (I was one of the teens, not the 35) and died twice and saw others drop off as well.
But the day this becomes "a real challenge," because of Incarnates or whatever else you might cite, is probably the day I leave. I have trouble justifying wasting my time on a game when I get one-shotted by Malta as it is!

That's the one... now if only I could find that website, because they had a LOT of just... WTF? Hilarious ones on there...
It's been awhile of course, but my memory tells me that the devs objected to the idea - they were afraid it would be taken as mean-ness and picking on other players - so the person who started it first took off the toon names, then pulled the whole website soon after.

I know the law has nothing to do with common sense, but seems to me that if NCSoft could get sued over people using HC to infringe copyright, then MicroSoft could be as well. And that makes no sense to me; see the first part of the first sentence again though.

Using the giant pumpkin head, make a magic origin character.
Doctor Streng, The Pumpkin Supreme.
Always a fan of pumpkin head costumes, I have two so far, one for King Pumpkin Spice (Mercs/Nature MM) and Terminal Jack (TW/Elec tank). Plus this one's fitting for the game!

And where did the Railroad crossing sign in Titan Weapons come from?
Paragon City has no railroads.
I had always assumed my tank just made his because the idea was so cool.

Mmmm. As someone with a Nature fender..no.
Nature is a pretty damn awesome set, and different enough from other sets to make it interesting and fun, at least to me.
The entire point of Spores IS to be a tiny heal and end recovery power. If it was better, the end cost (which is almost nothing) would shoot up even more. It might not be as good at 50, but for a to50 power, with just teh one slot, it is pretty awesome.
Wild Bastion..is also great. It is the perfect support panic button, and can easily turn a 'one sec from team wipe' situation into an easy win. On a timer of 120 secs, which is basically sub 60 with slotting and less with IOs, if would just be stupidly good. Like a team wide DullPain power.
I have a Mercs/Nature MM rapidly closing in on 50 (I think 45 now?) and I agree.

I think it was a fantastic idea for empowering those people who were content creators (Sturgeon's Law applies to the quality of that content, of course) which completely failed to take into account what most people are actually like and play(ed) this game for. 😛
I think your take fails to take into account how AE got more and more broken over time as a storytelling tool.
I was all over it for telling stories when it came out back in the day live and had to move on when the damage began to accumulate and was left unrepaired. The only example I can recall right now is the mechanic for dialogue: you walk onto a map and when you got close to some foes, or NPCs (or both), they'd spout whatever lines you put in for them. Both then and now, they spout it as soon as you walk onto a map. Sure, you could cut lines from a story, adjust in one way or another, but this was close to a third of your material that an author can get into the story/game, and certainly broke every story I'd already sunk hours into. I mean, my stuff might not be good, but try cutting out a third of any movie, TV show episode and see what you get.
The only thing it still works well for is farming, far as I can tell. Until this is addressed, I don't foresee myself getting back into the AE system,

It's been way too long since I played a Mind Dom (might have to do something about that...), but the reasoning I've heard voiced in the old days way "it doesn't need a pet, Mass Confusion makes your foes your pet." Seemed like a sensible take at the time, but as I said, it's been ages now.

Took this one back in the old days.
I'm a Cole Loyalist to the end, and all that, but the opportunity was just so...perfect.

The beast legs rarely look good to me, on either gender. And yeah, the heads often look too small to me on female characters, in general. I do have one with a tiger head and it doesn't look topo bad, but I think I managed that, barely, by maxing out what size sliders it pays attention to.

Wait, Croatoa gets a mysterious island during Halloween???

Me, I'm looking forward to trick-or-treat monster stomping on that one street in Sharkhead with six doors close to one another, or that motel on Peregrine Island with like what is it, eight doors? I currently have a Mastermind at something like 40 who already wears a Pumpkin head, so this'll be an easy matter of dropping patches, clicking doors and letting me minions start auto-attacking. It's a glorious holiday chaos!

I know it's RNG, but man, every time I've played around with the random feature it seems to be heavily weighted toward selecting the bestial and monstrous heads and pieces. That, and those jester parts come up with alarming frequency.
I was about to mention those animal heads when I made my post! So many green tigers, dark blue wolves!

I got a chuckle out of seeing a newsie outside a tram station calling out the news that DUAL BLADES were a thing now.

Who deletes? I'm always converting them into something I need.

I sometimes page through the random costume rolls to see what comes up. Most of them are awful and ugly. That would make for quite and assemblage of folk though, visually. Like an ugly, ugly assemblage.

It's temporary due to the long weekend causing a spike in demand. Prices will go back down, I juts picked up all my rare salvage for less than 470k each.
This. It also goes up or down depending on time of day, I play at night often and see this a lot.

So, I have the Secondary Mutation power from the p2w vendor and as I was flying through Steel Canyon, it recharged and I hit it...and turned into a Rikti Monkey. Full on, everything turned off, falling to the ground, all I can do is slap and fart...Rikti Monkey. It only lasted about a minute, but it was the first time I can ever remember this happening. I grabbed a screenshot because it was just too bizarre.
Love the side eye from the lady there.

Don't assume they are heroes only because they don't know they have options. Many - arguably, most - of those characters are heroes, because their players want them to be.
It's worth keeping in mind that a recent poll we took here showed the majority said they didn't play due to low pop. It's kept me out, but yeah, like the OP, I'll hop over at the drop of a hat if I need a team and someone redside is recruiting.
It's a problem with many angles though, and no one answer is 100% right or wrong.

I used to forget them so often I'd skip them in my build (especially Aim). The Gaussian chance for BU proc is a game changer, though, in that it turns your Aim or BU for an Aim+BU for a few seconds, almost doubling the damage of any big power you have. Now I use them religiously.
It's interesting in a way, with no difference in the functional effect, higher incentives managed to change my behavior.I keep forgetting I even have it on my Corr, but that sounds like a real nice option, I should probably go for that Gaussian proc.
WHat do I do now?

FYI, KW was an incomplete zone at shut-down and stuff like that (and other missions) never got set up there by the original devs, so it's a kind if empty zone. This is why there's no random bad guys scattered about, for instance.
