  1. I've started and led ToT leagues during the season, and DFB, but when it comes to other stuff, I have a problem gauging difficulty levels for the team.  I believe Ive had a few failures in this realm which is why I'm gunshy to do it again, but I can't recall for sure.  I know I've seen more than one team where we get invited, leader says "I'll set it higher after this one" and then like 2 impatient nellies waltz the second it's over because it was "too low."  I mean, I don't want to play with those types anyway, but it's discouraging.

it’s also incredibly boring in my opinion - it’s the pinnacle of uninspiring button mashing

Nah, that's farming: you set up cardboard figures on a space map to walk around and then fall over with how awesome you are when they see you, with zero chances of being touched.  MSR is a mad dash around a (well vaguely) dangerous map with a whole group of your friends and acquaintances, play a game of NO ME trying to set the bombs, then spend a bit of time trying to help drag targets into the bowl, healing your teammates for badges, directing pets, rezzing and teleporting defeated players (people can and do die on an MSR).  And then you get to gather up to go blow up a circling space ship!

Seriously though, there's something that's just great to me in being in a full league of folks who're all roughly focused on doing one task.

The first map is the huge outdoor Croatoa fairyland map, wherein we are tasking with finding the king and two villiagers; the former has a glowy aura making him easy to spot, the latter did not. I find the king and one hostage, spend ten minutes looking for the other, then give up and log into Champions. (haha I'm kidding, no one plays that. at all.)

Yeah, I've often tried to have a good reason for them to have a big aura or maybe one of the Held positions where they float off the ground in a big green haze, to make them easier to spot from a distance.  Or the foes surrounding them.

I saw 3 different MSR yesterday on Exel. One in the morning , afternoon and evening.

Yeah, instanced.  I've done any number of MSRs and, unfortunately, missed any number as well due to my play time schedule.  I know we still run them.

I already have two Water/Poison corruptors, but I'm DYING to make Instant Jellyfish now.

I'd be happy to steal the idea, but I just can't with Water, I've tried twice and maybe it was just bad luck or something (sometimes toons just don't "click"), but the look of the set just doesn't work for me.

  6. I'm... not sure what you're saying here exactly, does that make me elitist?

But this does raise a question I've been wondering: I don't think I've seen or been on an instanced MSR since I left Indom, and there weren't many there either back like 2 years ago.  Seriously, none, not on Excel when I play anyway.  How many people actually do them (OP aside, obvs. =)?

What OMG!  I am an electric controller almost to the lvl to pick gremlins.  Are they not good?

Everything in this game is good and viable to play, promise!  You'll be fine.  😃

Almost a full week ago, I was running content on gold side and we had some crazy, yet brilliant use of fold space. Someone lays out tar patch, and the other player uses fold space to move the mobs right into the Tar Patch, and then I'd drop whirl pool in the same spot and we'd all mash buttons until they were dead.

Fold space has a place in this game. But, the folks that use it have to be smarter than me. I've got a couple of characters with it, but the main place I want to use it - during MSRs, it never works. The main user of it is my fire/ice tank. When they're ported, they're in an almost a perfect cone for Frost.

I know there are players who use Fold Space far more effectively than I ever will. Like yanking weakened Hami out of the goo in Lady Grey. I would have never thought of it.

You're already using it better and more thoughtfully than most of the other people I've PUGed with.

  9. With custom foes in AE, this would be a hard no.  I've had some people come back to me after running one of mine who were rather sore that "this was waaaay too hard for my [AT][build]" etc.  Plus, with how the AE is used by most players, odds are high you'd just end up in a farm.

I don't ,mind the idea of a random mission behind a door though, maybe a nice and short thing like a radio/paper mission.

  10. Nope.  I have a couple of stalkers I really like but they play very differently, and one's just as good as the other in their ways.  I like how Doms play a lot as of late so I'm doing those, and playing each one is like "playing blackjack vs. playing a piano" different, and they're all great too to me.

  11. This is why I hate Fold Space, it almost always happens to me too when I'm on a team with someone who took that.  Look folks, save it for your farm, don't use it when teaming unless you've talked about it at the very least; best to just not.

  12. I tend to respec every toon at least once these days, which I shouldn't ha ha, because yes they are a major production and a PITA.  But it's rare that I have my build worked out 100% before diving in to play; and I have on occasion decided that I didn't like thois pool or needed that one slot somewhere else, so...  I have more than once understood that I played around with the build as I was leveling too and "maybe I should respect to fix that?... Nah..."

  13. I had problems with this last night too.

I though I'd heard it was ten exploration badges from anywhere, so my new toon gets all the ones in Atlas, then a few in Kings... wait why hasn't it popped up yet?  Get a couple in Pocket D, still nothing...  The Talos hill top...

I swear to you had 14 to 16 exploration badges before it finally awarded, I literally counted them on my "exploration" badge list.

The most fun I have with any character is typically the first month after 50 where I'm figuring out how to maximize both my playstyle and my build to their most idiosyncratic. Once I've solved the problems presented, it's very likely I will stop playing that character unless I am really, really taken with how it plays in general and those characters get to stay and become part of my permanent roster.

I've usually got all that figured out - even the "do I bother keeping this character?" - by the time I've leveled to 50, which is why I prefer leveling normally.  Whatever works for you though works, yeah.

    On Petless MM's...

If I play League of Legends and one of my teammates doesn't buy items I can report them and they'll literally get their account suspended for griefing/trolling the game. They're not playing the game as intended and ruining the experience for everyone else.

If you play Mercy in Overwatch as the only team healer and you never use heals, you'll probably end up with a game suspension after a while too (Blizz is generally more lenient on what is and what isn't trolling) but 'refusing to play your assigned role' is a punishable offence in most team-based games.

If you're playing a Petless MM and joining PUG's you're doing the same thing and while it's not a competitive game (e.g. PVP) you're degrading the experience for the rest of your team, basically trolling. If you do it solo more power to you, but joining groups as a petless MM is just cringe.

The fact that this is the one game that won't  scold you for playing a petless MM is one of its strengths.  Feature, not a bug.

I'll say it again (and those coupla people will drop by to downvote me again, just watch), but I recently leveled a semi-petless MM (lion-only Beast/Storm) and never once got any grief or even a "huh?" for it.  Every time I asked to join a PUG I'd let them know what I was running and no one cared.

The only bad PuG experience I've had so far was hopping on a team running at way too high a difficulty for midlevels.  After several faceplants, I noticed that the team leader was a mastermind but I didn't see any pets about.  Turns out he was running petless.  That's when I headed for the door and his the quit team button.

I would have too.  I've no problem with petless MMs, but wow, you do have to know your settings.  Some of the most face-planty-PUGs I've been on had to do with the ignorant choice of "OK, so now I'm 10th level, so everything goes +4/+8 from hereon out, right?"
