Focused Feedback: Reward Merits

I hit post too soon. See my edit. Salvage is character bound not account bound. That makes it less useful right off the bat. -
Focused Feedback: Reward Merits
Coyotedancer replied to Booper's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
SOme of us farm and grind DA arcs because we're not online when iTrials are formed. *NOT* having to rely on forming a league to Incarnate characters is one of the best changes made to the modern game. I'm not ever going to agree to anything that moves us back into the territory of having to run Trials to do it. Sorry. That crap was never a good idea. As things stand now, I can use the Emps to buy whatever rare or VR bits I need. Or save them to equip the next alt. I couldn't do that with salvage bit rewards since they're (stupidly, I think) character bound. -

Like I said elsewhere, it may be a little painful at first for the relative newbies I run with (Family SG), but it'll be a good lesson in positional awareness for them, too. I think they'll eventually adapt, and having goons that can't just ignore my Taunts will be nice. FCM and I have already given them a few lessons on herding and line-of-sight, so they're familiar with the idea... This ought to be an excellent opportunity to start putting it into practice more often. I suspect teams of old timers with strong builds and higher level characters won't do outside of challenge situations, even with the aggro change, but we may well see more herding in lower-level play. -

The CoyoteNephew will like that a lot. Thanks for listening to us on that one DevPeeps, 👍 -
Only if the devoted farmers also get one... Call us the Paragon Grange Association or something. 😆

I don't think it's going to slow down as much as you're afraid it will... Keep in mind that many of us who farm are doing it for fun as much as for the loot. We're not going to give that up easily. Not over what is, annoying though it might be, a fairly minor change. The aggro changes will bite AFKs if they don't update their builds, granted. But playing around with a few different maps now on beta, with both a very tough zen-mode farmer and a more fragile speed freak, we active types will be just fine. -

Playing around with it on a couple of different maps, I have to agree. We may have to adjust some builds to account for the extra damage, but adaptation is nothing new. We've all had to change builds and tactics before. -

Eh. Farmers will still farm and supply the marketeers with the raw materials they use to make their fortunes playing at conversion bingo, rather we're doing it in AE or on Council Earth. This isn't going to be the end of an affordable marketplace. Middle Nephew says to say that he's officially not a fan of the "No Vet Levels" change, by the way. (I knew he wouldn't be. He does love getting those badges on F1reDr1ll, and AE has been his primary source of vet XP to do that.) He says he's looking forward to trying out the new maps and custom enemy changes, too, so at least there's that. This'll be the first new page or issue beta he's joined in on. (Yes. I am proud. ^_^) -

My middle nephew is more of an AE arc builder than I am. I'm going to point him at those changes... I'm curious to see what he makes of the custom enemy changes in particular. He's ALL ABOUT his custom factions. -

A few of us are.... and that "five hours" business is pretty unrealistic. Possible at the bleeding edge? Maybe. But not in any way the typical time. -

Give the aggro change a chance... Having played around with it some over on Brainstorm, it's an interesting change. I had some doubts just reading the patch notes, but seeing it in action I actually like it. Now, once it's live it may well get my not-always-so-situationally-aware relative-newbie nephews and their mum into some trouble on crowded maps... but that may just be the poke they need to start paying attention to where they are relative to the goons. -

Good point. I don't multi-box a team... I'd be hitting that challenge with just a solo Claws/Fire/Mu Brute built for MOAR DAMAGE and the one hanger-on. -

Honestly, I have some questions about where that number came from... Even working as efficiently as I could with my speed-farmer, I don't think I could make that time. Getting someone to 50 with all their slots unlocked in five hours? Yeah. That's easy. Three runs of Fire City ought to get the majority of that done with at least an hour to spare. Getting the iBits to T4 all of those slots? That's more of a challenge. Having some experience with getting my support characters' iToys that way, it takes quite a few more runs to get the resources to build six T4s. You'd have to have a farmer a heck of a lot faster than Harry to pull that plus the leveling off in five hours. I'd love to see that build to find out what I'm apparently doing wrong. 😝 -
The Elemental Sentai Team This is what happens when a quartet of ancient Elemental guardian spirits gets bored and one of them takes to watching a little too much Kamen Rider... Name: Cheongnyong Character Type: Tri-form Peacebringer Server: Everlasting Level: 50 Alignment: Hero Classification: Elemental Guardian Beast Group: Ordus Viatoris Stereotypical Sentai Team Role: The Fearless Leader The Details: The Azure Dragon, Elemental Guardian of the Eastern Gate... She's a fearless Entity; boundlessly curious and driven to explore EVERYTHING. Having the Four Guardians of the Viatoris Sanctum venture out into the mortal world disguised as a heroic human sentai team was her idea. It's ever so much more interesting than just being the same old versions of themselves that they've been for centuries. Name: Tenkyoku Character Type: Stone/Stone Stalker Server: Everlasting Level: 50 Alignment: Hero Classification: Elemental Guardian Beast Group: Ordus Viatoris Stereotypical Sentai Team Role: The Stalwart Rock The Details: The Black Tortoise, Elemental Guardian of the Northern Gate... Slow to come to conclusions, thoughtful and introspective, Tenkyo has no idea why his brother and sisters wanted to go out into the mortal realm or to cosplay as human heroes, but he'll be right there with them just the same. He may not "get" the purpose of Cheo's grand expedition., but as the steady foundation of the quartet, he feels like it's his duty to take up the challenge. Name: Chujak Character Type: Symphony/Thermal Controller Server: Everlasting Level: 36 Alignment: Hero Classification: Elemental Guardian Beast Group: Ordus Viatoris Stereotypical Sentai Team Role: The Cheerful One The Details: The Vermillion Phoenix, Elemental Guardian of the Southern Gate... Chu has no idea *WHY* her sister Cheo wants to roam around in the mortal world, eating all the doughnuts and busting all the bad guys' heads... But it sure beats standing around the Viatoris Sanctum all day watching the grass grow and the dust pile up on her shrine-stones. She's found that she really enjoys the Guardians' little sentai-cosplaying adventure. Name: Xifang Baihu Character Type: Psi Melee/Shield Brute Server: Everlasting Level: 50 Alignment: Hero Classification: Elemental Guardian Beast Group: Ordus Viatoris Stereotypical Sentai Team Role: Mister Overconfidence The Details: The White Tiger, Elemental Guardian of the Western Gate... Xi is over-confident, over-eager, over-aggressive and far too sure of himself. "Danger," he says with a grin and the utmost bravado, " Is my middle name!" Usually right before he jumps into the middle of something that could turn him into an elemental pancake.

Their experience is *very* different from what I've seen... I'll just leave it at that. -
Name: Aristotle Character Type: Time/Dual Pistols Defender Server: Everlasting Level: 50 Alignment: Hero Classification: Assorted Magical Beings. Oranbegan Familiar Group: Ordus Chronos The Details: Aris is an Arcane Familiar.... a spirit entity given a somewhat humanlike or animalistic material form in order to assist the magus who summoned it. In this particular one's case, that form is an anthropomorphic fox and the magus is one of the more eccentric members of Ordus Chronos; the time-travelling mystics of Nova Primeva. [ Yeah... "Time-traveling gun-fox"... Four words you'd never expect to see together. Even in a city as strange as Paragon.]

Since it would keep me from having to grind painful DA arcs until I'm cross-eyed... I'd be for it. -

In your opinion, Skorry. Ask yourself this, though.... Do you really think those fast-build characters will never be used in anything but the farms that leveled them? Do you believe their players are just going to park them and never touch them again after that five hours are over? Odds are, you'll see them on your next ship raid, or in some taskforce after they're equipped. I'd bet my favorite Death Mage that the majority of power leveled characters are being made with the intent to be played, not just to decorate a character list. They give their players options and that encourages more than farm-sitting. -

It was a automated system that the old Live devs put in place as a throttle on XP and INF gain. They didn't keep it active for all that long, and its bar for what was acceptable and what would trigger its limiting mechanism was set pretty high. I don't think they ever quite worked all the kinks out, and eventually it went the way of the dodo bird. -

Given how short-lived it was back in the Live days, it didn't seem like a successful experiment. I don't remember the exact details... it's been too long... but I want to say that it was active less than a year. I don't recall anyone on Liberty ever running afoul of it, and we had some pretty devoted farming folk among the Badgers. -

I suspect that you guys who are calling to have MARTy reinstated, as if that's a golden ticket to End Farming As We Know It, need to be reminded that it really wasn't as restrictive a throttle as you seem to think. Do you remember Recluse Tower map ambush farms back on Live? I'd put them in about the same class as active farming the space map as far as rewards-vs-danger goes. With the right build and enough inspiration macros, they were the same kind of slaughter-fest. And they were never enough to trigger MARTy. Which means that our current batch of farms probably wouldn't hit those limits either. Running around on Council Earth or Harvey's demon map? Absolutely not.
