One free travel power at character creation?
ShardWarrior replied to dmaker's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Beat me to it. 😀 I see a lot of people taking SS/SJ or SS/Fly. Also, 15 million is pricey for player totally new to the game. -

Hovering is still flying. Don't get me wrong, I definitely agree it's more work/trouble than it's worth, just that I don't find the suggestion all that terrible. -

It kind of still is though if you want to take Hover or Afterburner. -
I changed my mind on AE farming...
ShardWarrior replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in General Discussion
I've run into the oddball person who wasn't PLed and still didn't understand their toon. It's an exception though, not the rule. -
I never said anything about the quality of the games, nor did I say anything about whether microtransactions are good or bad in general. You're admitting that they make more money, which means they provide the "solid financial model for covering server costs, development, support and profit" the poster was looking for.

I never said or suggested it was faulty, just that subscription fees do not provide the profitability like they used to. They did have their day. However, it's not the case anymore for the majority of games out there. So do some other ones. Take a look at the list I included. There is a rather substantial disparity between the number that require sub fees versus those that are free with item shops. Companies have been abandoning the sub fee in favor of the items shops because they make more money in doing so. Quite clear microtransactions provide a " solid financial model for covering server costs, development, support and profit", which is what the poster I replied to suggested would be required.

One free travel power at character creation?

Not sure it would destroy the power pools per se and redesigning/adding to them can be a good thing. Most still have other desirable powers in them. -
If it were that great we wouldn't have seen sub fees being abandoned in favor of micro transactions. Take a look at the list of games over at MMORPG.com and see how many are sub fee vs. item shops. Not even close. STO dropped monthly subs as an option like a year or more ago because they were not profitable.

One free travel power at character creation?

I suspect the same harm that came from making the fitness pool inherent - none in the long run. Thematically this works both ways in the comics and films. Superman leapt tall buildings in a single bound before he could fly. Batman spent years building his mind and body before putting on the cape and cowl. Mutants generally got more powerful over time. There are also many examples of those who were always at their full potential from day one. Seems to me that this suggestion is sort of moot in that we can get our travel powers at level 4 which honestly doesn't take long to hit anyway. With that said, not having flight or SS for the few minutes it takes to get to level 4 makes it almost pointless to not allow an inherent travel out of the gate. Seems to me this was designed more for build balance. Questions - what would happen with the rest of the powers in the travel pool sets? Would they still be there? I would hope so as there are some powers in them that are desirable. What about people who for whatever reason want to take more than one travel power? -
No thank you.

I changed my mind on AE farming...

With every community, there is always a difference in opinion. It's unavoidable. Some are more inclined to tell others what they should think or do more than others whereas others will simply mind their own business and let others be. As for the old Paragon Studios Devs not liking farming/PLing, it is understandable in a sense that they wouldn't want people doing it from a business perspective. PLing is a shortcut. The longer a person/customer is playing, the longer they have to entice those people in spending some money. IMO that excuse only goes so far in the modern gaming landscape. I personally believe it was a bit naive of them to believe farming wouldn't become rampant in the AE system. From my personal experience, the anti-pl'ing/anti-farming thinking is a relic of the old days of early MMOs. Customers aren't social introverts living in their parent's basement anymore. Many current game companies offer store items that one can buy to auto-level a character to max level. Others offer deep account wide discounts to keep the need for farming at a minimal level. The beauty of it is, this offers more choice for the individual. Those who want to take a slower pace can and those who would rather not can do that as well. That's a plus for everyone. -
Yes, I know it's me and not them. I've said that repeatedly now. I also understand that some people have mental illnesses and cannot help it. I also understand people have a lot of passion for the game. Last time I'll suggest it as it's clear the point is being lost - if this sort of thing bothers you, perhaps take a step back for a minute and do some self analysis. Think about why the chat of some unknown, faceless jerk in a video game upset you and whether or not you want that kind of thing to upset you going forward.
-
Oooh! Thanks! I hadn't thought to try a hood on him. Looks great! Thank you so much. 😁

I do know what being offended means. I'm simply suggesting that the chat from some random, anonymous person in a video game isn't something that offends me personally and that maybe some folk shouldn't let themselves get offended by that either.
-
I'm not trying to harm anyone at all. I totally get it people have mental illnesses and what not. I'm simply suggesting some folk may want to consider putting things into perspective. If you're getting that upset about something a totally random, anonymous, faceless person on the internet typed at you. I don't know what to tell you. IMO there are far more important real life things to be offended by. Some anonymous dolt in a video game isn't one of them. These kind of comments remind me of people arguing over on the STO forums about how Disco ball devices forcing their avatars to dance "without consent" was the same thing as real life physical assault.

Ugh! I totally despise this about the editor sometimes! I personally don't know of a way to lock focus, but hopefully someone does. This gets super dicey when you're combining objects to make something. ☹️

Of course it's a point of view. The person who berated the OP is a jerk, plain and simple. They're not worth a seconds thought or care. Global ignore them and move on. That's what these features are for. Life is far too short to be worried about what some random fool on the internet or in a video game says or does. If getting upset over some nameless, faceless tool in a video game not liking you is the kind of thing that concerns you or gets you upset, I don't know what to tell you. Don't let these little things bother you. It may be difficult and may take effort, but you're the one who has to do it.
-
Of course it is. I cannot help it if my viewpoint differs from yours. Differing from your opinion does not make me an internet troll. All I offered was some simple advice. Up to you if you want to try it or not or if it works for you or not.
-
^ Sound advice.
-
I never suggested not letting others get to you was in any way an absolute truth for everyone. It was simple advice that works for me. It's also true for just about everyone I know as well. So yes, it is true - if you let other people bother you, they will.
