How inf much is “just enough” to give?
ShardWarrior replied to BlackSpectre's topic in General Discussion
How much? I will let Sir Patrick answer. -
Having been traveling abroad over the last few years, I find that Paragon City in particular is very bland in that there is a lack of different cultural design. Paragon City does not have a "Chinatown" or "Little Italy" for example. I always thought it would be fun to have different areas like this in the game. Mostly I say this for selfish reasons in that creating environment objects and architecture could mean we get some of those for the base editor, giving us something more than generally "technology" and "arcane" themed items. 😁

Even this is too much effort. This just invites debates into where the memorial should be placed, what zone, what area, what it should look like, what shape the plaque should be and so on. Again, we already have the flexibility to create a memorial however we see fit inside a base and can provide as much or as little access to it as desired. No need for any HC involvement.

I believe you have misunderstood. The point was that creating a super group with the sole intent of building a memorial or shrine as a base that will be open to the public does not require the roster to be filled with people. Most bases are purpose built or built with a very specific theme in mind, and not all of them have the available space to build a memorial honoring members who have passed on. There may also be a desire to keep things how they are after the person who built the base passes away. I inherited the Amazon Army SG after @Heraclea passed away. @Heraclea built the whole thing the way he wanted and was very proud of his work. I could very easily build a shrine to him in there, but I prefer to keep it intact as he built it. I could, however, very easily roll an alt and start a "Heraclea Shrine" SG and build a memorial to him in there. Each of us can do the same and create a separate SG from our primary one. Anyone can build whatever memorial they want. Bases are in the public domain so long as the entry code is publicly available, and the base will be seen by as many or as few people as those involved with creating it want. Advertise the code on Discord, here on the forums, in-game and on social media and people will visit. There is also a base directory listing for each server.
-
Which in no way prevents anyone from creating a memorial for a friend or loved one that has passed on. A specific SG and base can be created with only one member and its only purpose can be a memorial park or shrine of some kind.
-
No one is denied creating a memorial for a loved one or friend in game. Custom memorials can be built inside SG bases and everyone can be granted access to visit them. It leaves how to best remember someone who has passed on where it belongs - in the hands of those who knew them. I do not think HC should get involved with adding memorial NPCs throughout the game and open up that can of worms. It will undoubtedly lead to hurt feelings, quibbling over how/where the memorial NPC was placed and the like. I say this as someone who made a request to add a memorial NPC of @Heraclea in Cimerora. Having had time to think about it, it makes sense for HC to not get involved. If the folks here can provide something like the hologram base object they had suggesting might be an idea. that would be fine. If not, that is fine too.

There are already letters, numbers and some symbols in the editor as objects for players to create plaques or memorial walls. People have been using these objects to make all sorts of signage and branding. It is cumbersome and tedious to place each letter one by one, but it can be done. Base access codes can be shared publicly so anyone outside the SG can visit.

Unfortunately, yes. I can empathize with you and others on that point. I do not profess my suggestion to be the ideal solution, but it is a pragmatic one. Unfortunately, there are a select few who decide to ruin the ToT event for others every year. There is precedent for game changes being made due to the bad behavior of a select few - see the removal of converting EMP merits to Merits. Many suggestions have come about over the years on what to do about AFK MMs. None of them are real solutions in my opinion. Reporting them does not work. It is unreasonable for GMs to be on hand in every instance to monitor every ToT site and take action. I would rather our volunteer GMs not get flooded with support tickets about AFKers ruining the ToT experience either. AFK MMs who are not in a league cannot be kicked from a league and they are still able leech XP from everyone else even when not teamed with anyone. Moving to a different ToT location on the map does not work as they just follow and set up show. They are in multiple instances of PI. The only other options I can think of would be to convert ToT into an instanced raid like the MSR was, or have "MM Only" instances of PI. At least if an instanced raid, AFK leechers can be kicked and removed from the instance or separated from everyone else and not negatively impacting anyone. I was on a league earlier this morning and there were AFK MMS and Doms teleporting mobs away from the league. Everyone moved to a different instance, and they just followed setting up shop in PI, PI2, PI3 and PI4. Some tried moving to a different area, but they followed there as well, ruining the fun and experience for others actively engaged. Again, I do not profess this to be an ideal solution, but it is an unfortunate practical one. I never expect this to be implemented.

Alternatively, have all ToT mobs that spawn immune to pet damage and teleportation. AFK MM problems solved.

No idea. I was merely pointing out that some information is available.

Last I recall, the discussions revolving around what to do to memorialize players that had passed on was that HC would not be adding any new memorials for players outside of the HC team. One idea that was floated about was to utilize the existing hologram tech (like the new badge tracker in Pocket D) to create a hologram object that could be placed inside a base. This would allow players to create their own memorials how they wanted instead of HC getting involved. Going the hologram route sounded like a not insignificant challenge being that it would involve storing costume data inside the base code, so do not have any illusions or expectations that it will appear in the next issue, if ever. It was just one idea that was suggested and discussed. I do not think HC will entertain the idea of adding in memorial characters for anyone other than people involved in coding and maintaining the game.

Information about the Memorial NPCs that have been added into HC is available on the Homecoming Wiki. https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Category:Memorial_NPCs https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Infurno

Would love to see more form fitting futuristic body armor type textures for costumes.

Various new stuff that I thought turned out kind of cool. Here are two of my alts from The Paragon Corps. Paragon Guy - Energy Blast/Psi Armor Sentinel. Had so much fun with this one, I rolled another! Paragon Jessica - SD/Psi Melee Tank (super fun combo!!) Superia Prime - SS/Inv Tanker Thought this was interesting in that it did not try to change the logo to the Superman S, but did use the Superman font for the title. I guess AI recognizes the influences!

I like this costume! Very cool!

Thank you, however the "arched" eyebrows like this were not quite what I am after. Think more the up swept, straight eyebrows like we see on Spock and other Vulcans from Star Trek. 🖖 The AI seems to struggle with facial stuff, even when providing several reference images. It is interesting as it seems to understand what you mean if you ask it to give someone a "Spock hairstyle". 🤣

This is true in my experience. Each trip to Japan, I stop in at a Japanese woodblock printmaking shop in Asakusa named Mokuhankan. It is run by an eccentric old fellow named Dave Bull. He has an interesting story; born in England, raised in Canada, moved to Japan some 40 years ago to learn the art of traditional Japanese woodblock print making. He opened his physical storefront in Asakusa a little over a decade ago now. He has been working very hard over the past few years to help get a shop that makes traditional washi paper off the ground to help keep the industry alive. You can find him on YouTube and Instagram and he livestreams on Twitch a few times a week if you are interested. Mokuhankan has grown significantly since opening in Asakusa, not just due to tourist foot traffic, but online sales and print subscriptions. I believe there are more than 30 employees there now. They work with traditional tools and methods, including handcrafted washi paper and Japanese cherry wood. He also sources prints through online auctions and estate sales for resale in the store. They do reproductions of earlier work that is now public domain as well as working with various artists to create their own unique deigns for their subscription series. Mokuhankan just recently completed a Hokusai subscription series in collaboration with the British Museum. For the past year or so, he has been talking about how they simply cannot keep up with the demand. They cannot carve and print fast enough to keep inventory of some of their more popular prints in the store. Last I recall, the waiting list for their reproduction of Hokusai's Great Wave is now some 800 people, meaning it will be several years before those at the end of the line will receive their print. They are in desperate need of printers due to the demand. People are going to his shop and others like it in places like Tokyo and Kyoto because they love the art style and want something hand crafted. Why else would anyone go into a shop like this and spend $50 or $100 or $150 or more on a piece of paper when they can very easily go online and print a copy of it to stick on their wall? I can find any number of pictures of Hokusai's Great Wave on the internet, print it on my computer and hang on my wall. It is simply not the same thing though. I can go to Google Gemini and upload a photo and tell it to make it into a Ukiyo-e style picture and it will do it. It looks cool, but it is not the same thing, nor is it as beautiful as one created by human artists and craftsman. From my experience, AI struggles to understand things when it comes to the finer details of the human face which a human artist would simply know instinctively. AI has a long way to go yet to match what a human can do. AI does not now nor do I believe will ever have anything close to human creativity either. I do not see the desire or market for human made artwork going away soon, if ever at all. Quite a lot of the content on streaming platforms is utter slop written by humans of mediocre talent (at best) who barely have imagination and are quite clearly copying the work of others who came before them.

I would not try to suggest that Psi Melee is the worst set there is, but I would disagree that it is a terrible set. I quite enjoy my Shield/Psi Melee tankers! I will completely agree that Boggle is meh and should be reworked.

Homecoming Server Update (October 1st): Halloween!
ShardWarrior replied to Widower's topic in Announcements
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this - is there any update on when server transfers will be available? Thank you. -
I feel for @Snarky Having been on a PUG Worthy Opponent run with him, I can attest that things can get dicey, but we were victorious nonetheless!

Question for you other AI enthusiasts... I am finding that AI tools have a very difficult time when it comes to interpreting prompts regarding hair and facial features for non human figures, unless they are way alien. For example, I have always pictured Shard as having more pointed/slanted eyebrows akin to a Vulcan from Star Trek (along with the pointed ears). I also picture her having a subtle enlarged forehead crest or bump/ridge. None of the tools I have tried so far seem to be able to understand what this means, even when including reference photos. They also seen to struggle with ponytails, wanting to make them overly bushy and sticking out the top of the head. The pointed ears are not an issue, but the forehead, eye brows and hair it just does not seem to want to get right. If I say "pointed" or "slanted" eyebrows, it always generates something like looks like Count Chocula on acid. Some examples of what I am trying to use as reference. For the forehead, something like Feezal Phlox but without the ridges along the side of the forehead and temples and cheek. For eyebrows, something Romulan/Vulcanish Any thoughts on prompts to try?

I see what you did there. 😉

You may want to remove the player name from that image as I am thinking this falls under the "no naming and shaming" rule. With that said, I agree AFK leeching is unfortunately rampant and frustrating. Unfortunately, there is not much we can do about it other than report it and move on as others have suggested. Let the GM team do their thing. I will say that AFKing is nowhere near as bad here as it is in STO, especially after Cryptic added the Cindarian ship, aka the "lazy AFK ship".
