Everlasting Community Base now open on Everlasting server! Everlasting Cave - passcode EVERLASTING-8756
-
I built a cave for the Everlasting Server Community Base. Definitely not as difficult as you might think. In that one, I built inside the base, not above the plot. I saved the exterior above the base for "phase II". 🙂 In the base editor, search for "Cave" in the search box. You'll find a number of cave rock items that are long and flat (the exact names escape me at the moment). Those flat objects can be used as floors, rotated to use for walls or ceilings. Just place one then fiddle with the F5 button to where you will want to place it (eg. floor, ceiling etc.) and move it into position. Items like the Cave 1 through Cave 5 worked well for walls. Takes a bit of fiddling but it isn't hard to do. I recommend watching the video guides @Dacy posted for pro tips on placing and manipulating objects.

Even with the existing command available now, this isn't happening. It doesn't negate travel because it doesn't drop you right at the mission door. You still have to travel to your final destination when you zone in from the base. I can tell you this is what STO has and in my experience most people are not just standing in one place all the time. There are various reasons to visit other destinations/locations and you can still take the time to travel to wherever you want to go if you want to. All this adds is a convenience for those who want it. Also, most events in game are spread out across the galaxy in various systems, so you still need to travel for those. -

This is nothing unique to CoH and has been around since day 1 of the first MMO. Why do you think stuff like the old gliders in WoW were made for? People don't want to waste limited game play time on pointless travel. -

The existing base teleporter would be much, much, much better IMO if it didn't have such an obscenely long recharge time and an obscenely long cast time. I personally have no objection to the inf. cost. -

Something I wanted to share here as it is in line with the discussion in this thread. Some have suggested that being able to quickly port to the base is "breaking the game" and "unbalanced" because travel is supposed to be part of the experience. I mentioned that using travel as a means to impede progression is a relic design. Here is another example of how modern games are getting rid of needing to spend time to travel to a destination to play the content. I'm going to disagree with the suggestion that the new command only work if you're within range of a portal. If we're that close, then may as well use the portal. That's simply not an improvement or good option in my opinion. Nor would I increase any recharge time on it. The HC folk here need to decide on what purpose they want bases to have going forward. If it isn't easier/better to use the base portals to travel and get where we want to go more efficiently, then there is no reason to have them IMO. -
Whats Peeps thoughts on Regen with a Scrapper?
ShardWarrior replied to Kid Durin Danark's topic in Scrapper
Sadly, this. Way too clicky a set anymore after all the nerfing that was done to it. -
You can eliminate the walls by building outside/on top of your base plot. See Darcy's video guides on how to achieve this.

I'd love to see smaller scale versions of these kinds of items as well. It would be really great if we could select what item(s) we want to use for certain functions, like door objectss as transports instead of portals or bookshelves as storage instead of the inspiration racks.

Yes, they are. I was talking more about the old argument of "shorter travel time is unbalanced". Some people here have suggested that these kinds of quick teleports shouldn't be allowed because they "break the game". -

I kind of like the idea of making the Pocket D and Base teleporter opening a portal that everyone around can use. I don't think a 5 minute recharge is needed. It's too long IMO. In my experience, most teams running TFs are tag-teaming use of the team teleporter and just porting directly to the mission door. Travel as a means to slow progression is a relic. Either bases are meant to provide some utility/QoL improvements or not. -

"As a man, I'm flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed; but as a symbol... as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting." Hello all, First, a quick bit of info - since the game has been back, I had been wanting to do something for the community as a thank you to all the wonderful players I have encountered while running about in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Costume contests are fun, but I wanted to do something more tangible and in a sense, more permanent - something functional and fun. With that, I am happy to announce the Everlasting Community Base is now open! Here you can find all the features needed - teleport points to all locations, costuming, crafting, leveling and enhancement store contacts, hangar bay and submarine port for stealthy missions by sea. Feel free to explore the caverns - you may find an exploration badge or two or five ... or more 🙂 This is for all of you, so please enjoy it and help pass the word around. Feel free to use it for getting around the city, hanging out, RPing, crafting or plotting your heroic deeds! A big thank you to all who have made the return of City of Heroes a truly special experience. I hope you all enjoy playing around in this base as much as I have had building it. View more photos in the full gallery here. Everlasting Cave - passcode EVERLASTING-8756 Some quick notes: Cave exit at the end of the bridge exits to all Hero Zones. Take the hangar for speedy access to all Hazard Zones. Use the Submarine to visit all Rouge Isle locations, along with Croatoa, First Ward and Night Ward. Second level elevator takes you to Pocket D and Echo Locations.

FUD This proceeds from the very false assumption that making homages is disrespectful. There are also many circumstances as discussed in this thread that where this is permitted by law.

I would have gone with Howard the Duck?
-
Only speaking for myself - I believe there is a distinction between trying to scare others into submission with fear of the game shutting down and just asking others to leave people doing things they don't like alone.
-
I agree. Then again, I'm not the one trying to preach morality to everyone. 😉
-
OMG Yes. You should be locked up for the unimaginative bad person you are!
-
No AT is "needed".
-
NCSoft still owns the property (which was taken without their permission) and as of this moment in time, there is no legal agreement for it.
-
^ Same here.

Thanks for these! 🙂

Well put. If in the event that some rule is put in place, I'll happily follow along as well. As of right now, there is none. Thing is this - the very same excuses of HC being "ok" because (even though the code was stolen) the game code being in the wild and "they can't stop everyone" applies squarely to the creation of homages/cosplays as well. I will near guarantee most every single one of the IP holders discussed here without question knows full well there are people copying or using their property in some way, but don't act on it. They are not that ignorant. They cannot stop everyone and more importantly, they don't want to. They don't want the negative press. THAT is going to cost them more money than going after some artist who charges someone $10 for a picture of Iron Man or someone making a free skin available for Minecraft. Case after case after case presented here bears this out - try and profit from a property or use it in a way that damages the image of a property and owners will act. Otherwise they don't say a word. To try and claim these companies don't know about cosplays/skins/pirates software/illegal commissions/whatever is complete and utter stupidity. A very simple web scraping program could be written to automate finding offenders and sending C&D emails to them. It's also utterly hilarious (and sad) that it's perfectly, 100% without question OK for NCSoft to have their rights infringed upon, their property stolen, altered and used without their consent - but others shouldn't do it. The very definition of hypocrisy. Pirating software, making illegal copies to profit off of, taking unauthorized commissions, selling mods/skins of another parties property are all illegal and wrong. No question. We are all guilty for playing this game and no one is the moral leader here.

If I could up vote this a thousand times, I would. Hit the nail squarely on the head. Agreed. And for people to try and make the imbecilic claim that Disney/Marvel or WB/DC or whatever IP holder don't know about the prevalence of free skins/mods for games or fan art sites (where artists are taking money for commissions on copyrighted characters) and such on the internet is completely and utterly stupid - especially while saying it's perfectly ok to play a stolen game on a pirate server because "the owner didn't say stop" - yet. This is exactly what @Dr. Gemini said it is.

I had both of these back when the game was live and can attest that DM/SD and DM/SR are fantastic combos.
