Technical debt is unavoidable as technology changes and hardware improves.

Refractoring/rebuilding the code isn't always feasible. I also imagine there would have quite a lot of people complaining about "content droughts" due to no new development being done in favor of bug fixes.

Oh I'm very sure they did. 😀 Teachers in America know all about job security. Real job security comes from doing a good job and working hard IMO.

I understand people are against these. However, I think the implementation is key. So long as the items in them aren't required for game progression (eg. what EA tried), I don't have an issue with them. I don't at all mind them having cosmetic pieces or salvage and such.

Documenting doesn't equal job security. IME no documentation is better than the code itself.

I would add that coding skill improves over time. Happens to me every day. More often than not, I look at code I wrote years ago when I was less familiar with the environment and realize I could have written it much more efficiently now that I have a better understanding of everything. Unfortunately I don't have the time to go back and redo all of it.

I completely agree. We also have the options for "Helper" or "Help Me!" titles to let others know if we can help or need help. Not every question has an answer on a game forum and making posts doesn't always lead to an immediate answer. IMO "help" is a combination of many things - forums, video guides, in-game chat etc. They're meant to supplement each other, not individually be a single source for everything.

This is par for the course in any programming environment. I'm working with enterprise level software platforms in my daily life. They too are so poorly written and documented that you can clearly see that there were probably dozens of programmers working on it, each of varying skill level and had a different idea what the MVC framework is and how it works. There isn't much need for heavily documented code. I know they stress this in schools, but it isn't needed so much in the real world IMO. Programmers can look at code and figure out what it is doing - I do it every day for stuff I personally didn't write. IME it is more important to have the knowledge transfer of what the underlying idea was and why things were done the way they were. I'm also not sure if there were any decent code version control software back then. These can make a world of difference.

Coding has never been "tight and clean" despite the best efforts of many. There are more ways than one to execute a command. The reason you had bloated software is because people used to get paid by the line of code. More code - more "bloat" (hence the term bloatware) - meant more money for the coder. Of course they're not going to write something streamlined and efficient. I'll also add, lazy people are not bad because in fact they tend to get things done in the simplest and most efficient way. This is why we have this quote;

Because "balance" is the usual response.

I believe Leandro talked about this in a livestream. The full size buildings like those in say AP are enormous. They will take up a lot more space of even the maximum size plot than you think. What might be better in order to conserve plot space is to make a "sky" option (like we have for AP, Cimerora, Space etc.) that is a background plate/backdrop of a cityscape or forest or mountains or whatever in the distance. I am probably wrong but I think this is what is being used in that one mission from Marchand in Praetoria where you rescue Marauder. You see the city off in the background but can't get to it.

To be fair this happens more often than not in the programming world. Coders come and go and others are left with the option to try and learn what another person did or start from scratch to code in a way they understand. Many times they are under a time constraint and it will take less time for them to start over than to peel the onion and figure out whats what. You (still) have this in STO, which is using a later version of the underlying engine. You'll have away team BOFFS (pets) run into melee range for no apparent reason and slap a target with their assault rifle.

^ Totally! Some of the absolute best times I had playing CoH back in the day were with my game friends who were in the LGBTQ community back in the day. I still keep in touch with many of them to this day. 🙂

You seem to keep injecting some alternate meaning or subtext to my posts that isn't there. I never suggested lootboxes weren't worth discussing nor did I say what anyone should or should not post. I simply tried pointing out that in my experience sub fees probably aren't going to work all that well for what the poster was after. If lootboxes are what is being thought about as a means of revenue, then yes, absolutely there needs to be a big discussion about them.

I'd prefer spending 15 mil on another costume slot TBH. 🙂

No lie - I've seen chat channels that actually require members to post "trigger warnings" before discussing certain topics.

Beat me to it. 😀 I see a lot of people taking SS/SJ or SS/Fly. Also, 15 million is pricey for player totally new to the game.

Hovering is still flying. Don't get me wrong, I definitely agree it's more work/trouble than it's worth, just that I don't find the suggestion all that terrible.

It kind of still is though if you want to take Hover or Afterburner.
